I mean I'm sure there is away to track those kind of things.  I'm actualy certian. So if someone from a certain IP is doing that..  The Server thrown a few hour timeout period.   This would have to be over 2-4 times in a daily basis.

....

It could work.  I know it can

Proxy servers, Tor, or merely disguising the outgoing IP yourself. I don't think you should be so certain Tongue

Re: [Guide] Dogie's Comprehensive Bitmain Antminer S3 Setup [HD]
by

Hoping someone might be able to give me a heads up on getting an S3 running under linux with the following situation (I managed it on the blackarrow X1 without worries but the S3 is being difficult)

My connection is mobile broadband, so I forward packets from ppp0 to eth1 using the following:

ip link set up dev eth1
ip addr add 192.168.123.100/24 dev eth1
sysctl net.ipv4.ip_forward=1
iptables -t nat -A POSTROUTING -o ppp0 -j MASQUERADE
iptables -A FORWARD -i net0 -o ppp0 -j ACCEPT
iptables -A FORWARD -m conntrack --ctstate RELATED,ESTABLISHED -j ACCEPT

I can connect to the S3 (after setting "ifconfig eth1 192.168.1.x" because the default interface is 10.x.x.x) and it's flashing as though it's hashing by my pool shows nothing, and the miner status just shows "This section contains no values yet".

I've searched far and wide - found the suggestion to fill in all parts of the miner configuration section and tried it but to no avail. Tried searching S3 setup under linux among many others but to no avail.

I've ordered a router that will allow me to plug my usb mobile broadband stick into it and share the connection among wired and wireless devices which should solve the problem but in the mean time any suggestions?

Cheers..

What are you guys accomplishing by rebooting the miner every hour or when it hits a threshold?

Yeah I'd also appreciate an answer to this. Anyone?

Love the stats page on the new site.

Blew my mind that the highest number of users in a given sector are still battling away at 125-250Mh/s. Also wondering who that one bastard is with 2.5Ph/s heh.

What the hell is going on, 246% for the 24 hour luck?

I think something must be broken in the pool back end, this shouldn't be happening. Is slush trying to run some kind of Nigerian scam here?

Brilliant!

SolydK:

xyz@xyz ~/checkcoin $ ./checkcoin-qt
./checkcoin-qt: error while loading shared libraries: libdb_cxx-4.8.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

Sad I've got all the required libraries.

This is what turns me off somewhat. Average joe blogs will look at that and think 'wtf' but I looked into it and found some advice to create a symlink. The average user won't understand this. Can you compile a static binary? I'm trying to look at this (as I do any new coin) as a normal everyday person would and to be frank it's a lot of stuffing around.

Edit to add: When I got into bitcoin in 2011 everything 'just worked' from the qt client. Thought granted it would fuck up continuously at least it ran.

Why a wife from another country, when I can get 200+ whores, one from each country?

Why a wife period?

With no fault divorce where she can leave on a whim while getting default custody of the kids, half my shit, *and* I have to keep paying alimony.

Everyone thinks it will never happen to them - but the statistics show otherwise - they show that it's more likely than not to happen to them.

Fuck marriage.. if I want sex I go to a club, and she can buy me the drink.

Great read. There's nobody thinking about running for Prez that can offer that thoughtful of a solution to the present health care market. This man is top shelf all the way around.

The guys a slimeball who back stabbed his own dad last time around. You do remember that right? He failed to support his old man against the others and instead went with a mainstream candidate.

Not that any of it matters. As someone pointed out earlier the whole thing is a farce to give people the illusion of freedom and choice. The only person who could have made a difference (and actually did somewhat) was Ron Paul; that is someone whos really top shelf all the way around.

That sure would make the warmongers of the west happy. Putin is one of the few world leaders willing to truly stand up to the anglo-zionist empire.

But, I doubt it. Calling it - this is FUD

Amen to that.

Re: What will do Obama if Ebola will come to Whitehouse from foreign leaders staff

Not buying that one bit.  You need to have direct contact with the bodily fluids to get Ebola.  I've seen some of thos universal precautions you mention.  They work if followed correctly.  I've seen a few pics of workers with their medical suites rolled up.  I've seen a story where the ambulance used to transport an Ebola patient wasn't sanitized for 2 days while it was left in service.

I was one of those who laughed at the hype over bird flu, swine flu and SARS as it was happening and pulled the piss outta people who believed it all but with Ebola I'm still on the fence.

The reason I say that is because the media is actually doing the opposite of normal ..  ie all we hear is "don't worry, it's so hard to catch". But if this is the case why is it that medical professionals, several wearing a full bunny suit, still manage to catch it? Surely health professionals would take the utmost care - even though as far as I'm concerned it's common fucking sense to be ultra cautious anyway. Furthermore if it is so damn difficult to catch why should it matter?

Cheers

Choline bitartrate, 3 grams and you wont want to wake up. It must add 20 IQ for a few hours. I can wake up from a dream and go right back to it at will.
Only lasts about a month then I need a good 6 months off to restore potency.

Cheers for the link. Will give it a go... not sure how it will go with customs though. Dumb arses will probably seize it thinking it's something else.

I challenge anyone with a PC that has a QUAD CORE PROCESSOR to mine with their CPU for an hour then multiply their hourly average hash rate x 51 and see if it is somewhat close to one S3.  Well, you might have to multiply it by 58 cause Slush always shows a little slower than what my rigs say.

You might see you have to multiply times close to 200 to get close to 450GH/s.  If that's the case, then it takes approximately 200 to equal 1 S3.

You really ought to test out that hypothesis yourself before spouting off such utter tripe on here. You do know of course a Ghz is in no way comparable to GH/s.

Actually, since I'm feeling kind I'll give you the answer and save you some time and give you the (rough) hashing results using all cores.

4x Opteron 6174's will crank out around 115Mhash/s (while chewing over 300 watts), an Athlon 64 X2 6400+ Black Edition will do a whopping 2.9Mhash/s!!  But you're also aware that's the exact reason people switched to GPU's right? where the 5830 would do 270-330 Mhash/s 5850 was around the 400 range.

As far as pool luck is concerned, thanks for agreeing with the ignorant mob (or for that matter counting yourself amongst the ignorant mob)

I'm well aware of the maths. To make it clear I'll go the other way; if each and every one of us is no longer part of any pool and all mine solo, on average the chance that any one of us might find a block is less than bugger all - ie you find a block you are pretty damn lucky.... More people means more resources means the 'luck' is shared among contributors and more consistent. This scales too.

What is the harm in that? The bloody thing is dead anyways!

Heh there's a good joke about how governments would utilize a dead horse.

If, as you insist, pool luck is just that, then surely it can not be demonstrated to be otherwise. Unfortunately for you, it has, and that by the ignorant mob you so detest.

On the contrary. For the sake of the argument envisage yourself as the sole miner of bitcoins and ask yourself whether you would find a block bang on every 10 minutes or if there would be a variation. That's Solo. Now extrapolate that variation over the number of miners/pools we currently have and it's only natural the variation is going to be exacerbated.

So, if someone is astonished at how un-lucky (or vice versa) a pool is, so what ... !?

It becomes repetitive. Simple as that. Just the same as the numerous posts on slush's payout times become repetitive. The issue is not with what people are (or aren't) astonished about but rather that they keep flogging a dead horse.

Have you noticed how nobody complains when we have a run of good luck, but when it goes tits-up for a couple of days all the accusations and conspiracy theories start coming out of the woodwork?  Happens every time - so does the return to normal performance, if there is such a thing.

If somebody complained of good luck, that would be strange; on the other hand, it is perfectly normal to complain of bad luck (and that in any field of life, not just bitcoin pool luck!)

Now if you care to take some time and explain to me what exactly your point was, that would be nice (lucky if you like).

Though not worded the best, his point was that every time a run of bad luck comes along people - particularly those new to mining - will spout off as though it's unusual and crap on about it being 'fishy' among other things, while only a few weeks prior thinking they have the expertise to predict when a block will be found based off a few prior days when luck was good.

I agree with him. Ignorance is no excuse under the law, nor should it be on here with several hundred previous pages of which maybe 5-10% are people utterly astonished that luck can go down as well as up.

Slush stopped posting here some time ago. Until the beginning of this year newbies couldn't make posts in normal threads and the members that were posting were just asking the same questions over and over. It had got really bad so slush quit posting in this thread because he was just repeating himself over and over because no one would read past posts for answers. He added the webchat, a ticket system and Facebook for announcements. It sucks but this forum had got out of control. Slush is a highly intelligent person and to explain the same simple things over and over again when there is a knowledge base link on the pool page and plenty of pages in the forum they could review over became too overwhelming. Also, at the same time having clueless miners accusing him of crazy things because they don't understand how a score based pool works wasn't very productive for anyone. He was trying to write new pool software for the pool and create a Stand alone bitcoin wallet to help bring bitcoin to wider audience so he stopped posting here to create those things. You can still post with him in the Development and Technical threads, so he is still available and answers questions, just not the ones that he has answered 1,000's of times since 2011. He left this thread unlocked so we could communicate and help each other out.

Finally. Another intelligent post. This one should be read by all newbs, but it probably won't

I all ways look for this first and  as a last resort ask newbie question and only then if I'm totally annoyed after hours of  looking, even, then i hate to ask anything .

We are a dying breed. But look at it this way, if something as 'technical' (for want of a better word - because it's pretty bloody straightforward) as bitcoins gets so much noise just imagine what it would be like on the more mundane forums.. gaming ones spring to mind though I'm not a gamer so can't speak from experience.

PS Back after a year absence - that is to say mining in general - been on slush since day dot after solo mining was no longer an option and don't intend to change (though I might bugger off for several months at a time Wink  ) Great to be back!! cheers.

What a fucking ordeal I just went through.

Decided to sell some old equipment on ebay. Got home from work and found account suspended and to reset password. 'Ok whatever' I think to myself, so I hit reset and it says I need verification. I speak with someone on their 'live help chat' or whatever it's called and they say fraudulent activity has been noted on my account and to call some number to speak with security. I call the number, verify my phone number and how many arse hairs I have and they say "We've relisted you listing, sorry for the inconvenience" but I had to ask *why* was it suspended in the first place!

Answer: Lots of hackers using other accounts to list 'those sort of items'

Bullshit. I reckon they are purposely making it hard for people because of course they own paypal and we all know how much a lot of the big players hate btc.

Sorry rant over.

Tip: Allways post an actual picture of the item, with you ebay ID and even a Newspaper of the day!!! Not just because it will pass that preventions from ebay, but also it will give confidence to buyers and u´ll get better bids. (from a 8 years experience ebayer with >750 possitives).

Thanks for the heads up Smiley

Edit to add: Now the bloody thing is listed as a relist. So zero watchers and zero bids Sad fuckers

Edit 2: They've also taken off a banner that said "100% positive feedback" (over 12 years) and also removed a postage option. They're the ones being fraudulent lol - arrrggh gotta laugh hey
