Gold shortage is a rather temporary and silly obstacle given a perspective of asteroid mining. Which is pretty inevitable if you ask me Smiley

Bitcoin is programmed to break the law
by
TeslaUa
on 28/11/2013, 18:52:18 UTC
I hope you agree that Bitcoin encourages speculation and entrepreneurship.

As such, entrepreneurship uses all available lawful methods to do business and is pushed by competition to resort to unlawful methods. So that is what some people end up doing. In other words that iconic 21m curve you can see on my avatar is the rule that ultimately governs people - there is fierce competition for limited resources. And breaking bad is what fierce competition is all about.

Your thoughts?

Keep in mind that this sort of stuff can kinda backfire and work as a curse. Ross isn't too happy with all his bitcoins now my guess.

Sudden bitcoin empowerment phenomenon
by
TeslaUa

A few people who happened to amass a significant hoard of bitcoins are in interesting situation now. Take Satoshi himself. The guy sits on privkeys of well earned millions. How about other superstars? Ross keeps quite a hoard from FBI  as they say. Well deserved? Hmm... depends on point of view I guess?

The thing is - I predict that we are going to see quite some more of Names in bitcoin. It is interesting to see how their capital disperses.

Satoshi (my bet) is taking strategic role somewhat similar to Ripple guys with their gazillions of XRP. They do not rush to flood the market. Instead they essentially holding another level of control over their creations. Shuttleworth style. Their greed is in struggle with good will to the project. The kind of things that move continents really Smiley

Who will be next bitcoin star you guess?

Yep, ToS is pretty big and in convoluted law-speak. Getting out of context translations right for buttons is also another difficulty.

Owning a privkey as a measure of civilization
by
TeslaUa
on 07/08/2013, 11:57:26 UTC
It has occurred to me that a hand-write signature

is an ancient tool for modern-day public-key cryptography. The privkey is supposedly a skill to write your unique signature. Kinda making it hard to forge your signature. Proof-of-work of sort. You use your signature to sign essentially life-binding contracts and many other important things. How severe is signature fraud?[citation needed] Oh my...

But it is not the point. When cryptography revolution (as they call it) came - they offered encryption and signing. The hype was that it will change everything and blah-blah-blah and we can see that it pretty much hit the adoption ceiling as we speak.

Now blockchain technology offers another clever use of privkey usage - timestamping and money usage. The money usage side if obviously in the spotlight since it is kind to everyone's heat. Unike trying to explainin privacy concept to an average fellow when you probably quickly stall to technical mumbo-jumbo loosing his understanding and any hopes to success.

It is easy with Bitcoin - "if you can keep a secret passphrase secret you can use money that are unforgable, indillutable and unseizable. The downside is floating value."

And yeah, signing and encrypting come as freebies... and timestamping... whatever that is Smiley

Standardization effort as a global phenomenon
by

I have seen BBC "Precision The Measure of All Things" series today.

It told a history of humanity's gradual agreement on ways to measure fundamental thing: Time, Weight, Lenght etc. However the series never mentioned measuring value. Perhaps because it is subjective.

But if a principle still can be applied we can see many parallels in what is going on with Bitcoin-related events. Back in 'ol days there were many local standards of weighs and cheating was rampant. It was so severe than death penalty were in law for everyone caught cheating.

Just like a multitude of currencies and so-called monetary policy we have. Bitcoin steps in as a Meter, don't you think?

Some of you may already heard of Numers stations, powerful radio stations heard around the globe that broadcast seemingly random lists of words and numbers. It got me thinking that pronouncing Bitcoin addresses and privkeys would sound similar.

Would it be cool if we had HAM operators runing automated SPV bitcoin nodes that broadcast in loop every last N blocks. Could be done with speech synthesis and AFAIK it does not violate HAM license since the broadcast data is in fact public.

That would allow even a paper and pencil way for bitcoin to work.

As a specie we are territorial. And violent force is the most effective form of influence in nature. As for monopoly - I hope it will be harder to achieve with sound monetary system.
