Well, with $100k+ in fiat, I missed the BTC train (and BCH), so I have less than half of what I would have had if I was in coin at the time. Taking a 50% loss now would bring that down to a quarter. Sure BTC trading is about betting, but now I'm betting those 50k that they will honor the payback rather than losing them with 100% certainty.

it all falls back on the saying "1 bird in hand is better then 2 in the bush"

I'm curious as to why people are doing the "gimme 55% now and screw the rest" refund. Isn't waiting 2 weeks worth 45% of your funds? (or maybe it's just because I have a lot of funds on there that I find it a bad option)

in 2 weeks u can only move 55% out anyways the 45% peeps give up are TOKENS that most likely be lucky to see .30 cents on the dollar when and if btce comes back on 15th, then it could be 6-8 months before u could cash them in.  Not to mention US customer never got a answer wether they would be allowed on the new site.  So for many getting 55% now or 55% in 2 weeks with 45% in tokens u can touch in 6-8 months its better just take the 55% now

I wouldn't do anything until BTCE post on here or there twitter, as BTCE stated weeks ago there are fishing attempts out there and all the info from BTCE would be posted here.

This situation with BTC-e is not important just to BTC-e but for the whole crypto exchange system.

For example, SimpleFX (exchange?) is not allowing transfers between crypto and hard currency balances. You can trade crypto-hard pairs but you can't: deposit crypto then buy usd and then use that usd to fund mt4 account or to withdraw that usd bought onto EXCHANGE(?). FXOpen does not allow US citizens. Will the rest of exchanges follow those rules?

If theres one thing I've learnt from all this bullshit is that the biggest problem is crypto is fiat. If a viable living economy can exist purely based on crypto, then the ties to fiat can be cut and these government shakedowns can end

That's the problem only with USD cash because US gov thinks that if you accept or send USD that you are doing business with USA. And you are actually doing business with them because dealing with any foreign fiat you are actually influencing their country payment system by freezing or releasing their own funds onto which they have no legal influence (if there were not those AML and so USA treaties). It just depends the scale of that business when they will react.

I'm pretty sure the legal justification used is that they were serving US customers while acting as an unlicensed money services business. If they had (like many other exchanges) prohibited US residents --- or at least asked customers to confirm they weren't US residents and IP restrict based on region --- maybe this could have been avoided. Or not; maybe it's highly political and this is really about US and USD hegemony.

Kraken, Poloniex and many others are registered in USA and they are unlicensed money services business. Smiley

they will be next.

Yes, that's possible. They aren't properly registered in each state that they serve IIRC. But I don't think that necessarily means that they will get shut down in the same way as BTC-e. With the latter, the money laundering charge and association with Vinnik's activities seemed to greatly overshadow any emphasis on the unlicensed MSB charge. Since they both have stricter AML/KYC procedures, and because Poloniex doesn't have fiat deposit/withdrawal, I suspect it would go down very differently. I think there's a good chance in those cases that the government simply levies a hefty fine and forces them to implement new KYC procedures and/or prohibit US residents.

Polo cut off service to some States in the U.S. back in april or may

Ya well Holding don't gain u any coin, I'm not a moron I kept what I could afford to part with on btce if sht hit the fan.....Holding bitcoin wont make u any extra coin id rather trade and gain and take a hit if u have to.....in the long run trading pays more..............so everyone saying told ya so don't keep coin on a exchange can stfu and start sayin keep what u can afford to part with on exchanges.......if it wasn't for exchanges the coins you hold wouldn't be worth what they are

You are a moron to think that.Holding is much more profitable then risk involved in trading.you stfu.not everyone is trading expert and hold bitcoins which is less risky then losing trading.I also trade and hodl too and there's nothing wrong with holding. What's wrong is to keep holding on exchange like you.Do trade and take out profit every 2-3 days.

I'm gonna call BS on holding more makes more money, ive been holding some coin and trading for many yrs the amount gained from trading well exceeds the amount earned on holding coins....unless your a moron and love to sell cheaper then u bought then ya holding is better

Yeah that's your BS right there. If i have to now sell my bitcoins that i have been holding it is 6 times the USD i bought it for so yeah you are a moron.

LMAO that's my point your only up 6xs , u obv must have sucked at trading.......but since u was crying over 80 buks I already figured that out

Its Saturday in America , they don't work on weekends so it prob not feds moving coin or the be on TV bragging about it......and to the dude who lost 80 buks, if I only had 80 buks on btc-e I wouldn't even be following this news lol
That would make you do the same mistake again with other exchanges as well which is to never hold anything on exchanges.I am a long time bitcoin holder now.that's why i feel pissed to do that mistake.

I don't see the seizure page yet, but just read an article from the fincen site and a quote from it was FinCEN acted in coordination with law enforcement’s seizure of BTC-e and Vinnik’s arrest.  The Internal Revenue Service-Criminal Investigation Division, Federal Bureau of Investigation, United States Secret Service, and Homeland Security Investigations conducted the criminal investigation.

peeps used BTCE to trade and make more coin cause they knew being a holder don't make u any coin.....even if btc don't come back up the money I had on there is gone I still better off for trading coins over the yrs and gaining rather then being a dumb azz holder.........
