Re: can I mining ALT Coin with PC's CPU (core i7)

The best chance to make money is look for new coins which have potential and mine them. If you are lucky they will be worth something and you can sell them. In many cases that won`t be the case though.

Wallet transaction cannot be confirmed, what to do

Yeah, I have the same problem. Apparently it occurs when you have a Segwit address with 3... and you try to make a transaction. All my transactions are still unconfirmed - in memory pool. The oldest one is from 19.06.2020.

Is this scrypt? I see a lot of pools listing as scrypt, yet you state it's a Mega_Mec algo. Having a rough time adding it to my pool.

The algorithm changed to Mega_Mec. So far I haven't seen any pools using this algo.

But I also wonder why the pools using scrypt are still running. I assume they are running the old chain.

Yesterday I sent some coins but the transfer is still unconfirmed. I used the default setting for the fees.

Does anybody know why this can happen and how to solve it?

I'm using the current wallet version 1.9.9.2.

This is a new install of MegaCoin on Windows 10 64.

Edit:
I just got some MEC. So the mining part does work but it seems to be only single threaded.
you can run the daemon.
If you want to use the qt wallet while mining, just clone the blockchain ($HOME/.megacoin ) from qt wallet to a different directory (wallet sould stopped when copy!)
no need to copy the wallet.dat if you use disablewallet in daemon.
run it:

Code:
./megacoind -datadir=/cloneddirpath -listen=0  -disablewallet -rpcthreads=XXXX
XXX = number of your cpus + 2

choose an address from qt wallet, and start mining to that:

Code:
./megacoin-cli -datadir=/cloneddirpath generatetoaddress 99999 YOURADDRESS 300000000

each calls "eat" one rpc threads, so use multiple times (=your cpu count)

you can control the daemon with last two rpc thread. (getnetworkhash, getmininginfo,  stop)

you can start the qt wallet, and watch for your blocks.

Thanks for the info. It works now.

I also haven't been able to get mining to work so far. When I start mining via the command generate 14 -1 the QT Wallet uses 1 Thread but that's it. Unfortunately from that moment the debug console doesn't react to other commands anymore. Also I haven't found any command to stop mining.

I also had the problem, that I didn't have an address and also couldn't create one via the GUI. I could create one via the debug console with the command getnewaddress label. I had to set the label as the new address didn't show up without one.

This is a new install of MegaCoin on Windows 10 64.

If the wallet does mining then is nothing more possible.

Ok, if the mining is single threaded that's just the way it is.

But what about the part, that the debug console doesn't react to commands anymore and how can I stop mining?

If you're using the GUI wallet then try using the CLI wallet. I've often experienced problems with GUI wallets of this kind (funds didn't show up). After importing everything into the CLI wallet everything was always there.

Is that really profitable? Mining with CPU? By using your CPU on 100% you will soon damage it. CPU is not made for 100% power for a long time.

That's not true. My CPUs have always worked at 100 % load (first BOINC now Mining) and everything is fine. Of course you have to use a good cooler to keep the temperature in check. But the same applies to GPUs.

Unfortunately the Wallet doesn't sync. Is there a list of nodes?

Ok, figured it out. In case anybody is having the same problem. You have to copy the file copper.conf into the copper folder under appdata/roaming. There are already two peers in this file.

in the ANN it seems that a cpuminer have been made available. can we have a link?

You can find it here: https://github.com/minato-project/cpuminer-x18/releases

But Pool mining doesn't seem to work so far and solo mining only works with the wallet but not when the CPU miner is pointed to the wallet.

The note to restore the Windows wallet in version 0.1.7.6 with the seed worked like a charm. As long as I don't have to do that every time a new wallet version comes out I don't mind.

If you get a the following error message with an older card like my Radeon 390 with a newer version of Wildrig Multi you also have to download the additional binaries for this version.

Error CL_INVALID_KERNEL_NAME when calling clCreateKernel for kernel 'jh512_80'

I just looked into it because of your post and it's nothing for me since it doesn't use PoW but Proof of Spacetime. This means that you have to allocate harddisk space and when information is stored on your harddisk then you get Filecoins.

Therefore I would say it's not for the typical small miner aka end user but indeed for owners of server farms you mentioned.

The blockchain has been very stable for me since version 169. It can happen that you find an orphan block and this amount is deducted again. But this only affects small amounts. This has to be considered normal with blocktimes of 1 second I guess. But I have also heard from other projects that people find orphan blocks sometimes. It's no big deal.

It took me quite a bit of time to realize that you have to set up portforwarding on your router to TCP port 30000 (only realized it due to discussion on Discord). It would be great if you could add that information on your documentation.

In the readme it just says "To connect to the network and start sync, you must have a static (public) IP address and an open port.". I figured since I didn't create any rules in my firewall that restrict access to port 30000 everything should be fine. Also a trace verified that the connection between my computer and the other nodes is working fine.

It would be great if you could add the term "portforwarding" into the readme. It would make things much easier.
