Re: How to test if my PSU is shot?

I had the exact same issue earlier last week (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=38543.0) and, long story short, there's no easy way to test your PSU without going out and buying a testing tool.  It's probably easiest to just go out and buy a cheap 500W unit to replace your old one.  It was mentioned that the Corsair CX series is pretty good for the money Smiley

Did a google search and even got a multimeter and yea it is dead -_-
Good news is I get to buy a new one!

Looks like the "instant" is taking a plunge.

Also I presume the price drop lately could affect this. And/or maybe people are selling before the storm?

So I had my 500W PSU power one card on my mining rig (5830) and running my PC.  As I am browsing the internetz it all of a sudden died, I figured to let it cool maybe it overheated but it was not really even that warm. Ideas? Is it burnt? Ha get it!

its clear you're an inflationist and i a deflationist.  this is a very common debate and distinction.  i think we're at a fundamental turning point in history.  you linearly extrapolate from the past.  thats ok.  we'll see.

Agreed. Maybe were both right?! Maybe deflation near term and inflation after 1 or 2 yrs? Maybe were both predicting same scenarios but different times?

the 10 yr UST is down to where we were in 12/08.  it screams deflation.  who you gonna believe?

Yes, except you forget in 2008 the credit markets were frozen and people were not sure if the banks had the capital (paper) to cover their losses and deposits. This time around we KNOW they have the capital and so do many corporations that made 25%+ profits this past few years and that these huge mountains of money are sitting there untouched. The second that money is released into the economy (my prediction is it will chase commodities) inflation is going to ram us hardcore. We already got a taste of it early this year when there were "signs of a recovery" these companies started just barely opening the tap and inflation was on everyones radar ( a reason gold is at the price its at imo).

is anyone interested in starting, a bitcoin trading club?

I would be interested.

Though I could see plenty of room for abuse.   "Everyone buy now!!!" As I sell all my BTC on the cheap...

Maybe prove it some how? Agreed though

I'm officially changing my donation tag to be 100% devoted to eliminating the tea party.

It is a bit ignorant to blame this all on one group imo. The United States has been on this downward spiral way before the Tea Party and will continue if we do not fix out mess even without the tea party. Just my .02

let me list the warnings i see:

1. silver has broken down badly from $50. it continues to this am.
2. silver stocks are in an obvious decline and got hit yesterday hard.

Silver is 50% investment (or more now) and 50% used by industry. There is less being mined than the year before. It is going down because of the demand from industry not from the demand of investments. Even if we enter another recession silver may go down to 25$ the lowest before taking off again.

3. gold stocks are no better.  they usually lead.
4. we're at 11 yrs of the bull.  some ppl say theres an extended 9 yr cycle going on.
During the crash of 2008 gold dropped from 1000$ to 800$ and has not looked back since. So with current prices and if we do have another recession then I would suspect another 20% drop being a great buying opportunity. (If you have the money for gold) Like you said in your other thread the Feds want gold to go down but they have the economy to deal with first and the economy (aka Wall Street) wants them to print more money which means gold will continue its climb.

5. asset classes don't all break down simultaneously.  it took gold and miners several months to break down after the Dow in 2007 so i don't expect them to have followed the Dow down since May 2011.
6. gold is trying to or has, depending on how you look at it, entered a parabola.  do you really want to buy a parabola now if we're entering a major deflationary phase when cash is King?
7. its debatable how widespread the evangelism about gold has spread but everywhere i turn, on street corner stores, tv ads, and my secretary everyone's buying gold.

I am not bullish on gold short term I suspect as I mentioned a 20% correction. I am very bullish on silver though.
ok, now for the tinfoil hat stuff.  stop right here if you want to stick with the technical trading stuff above.  over many years of trading i've learned to think like a criminal and this is what i see happening.

1. GS and JPM have huge short positions in the metals.  do you think they will let them double, triple from here even if they represent hedges?  i think thats the last thing they want to see.
2. gold has acted very strange the last coupla weeks to me ramping in the face of a severe selloff in the Dow and the clear threat of deflation.
Deflation to who? The economy has a whole? Remember these companies are sitting on MOUNTAINS of money. So many companies do not want to spend, this is why this illusionary deflation is happen when infact it will be inflation that smacks us in the face when all these companies open the faucet. Unlike the Fed companies do not close their faucet to control inflation. We got a taste of it already imo with the insane prices for these new ".com" companies (LinkedIn, Groupon etc)

my bet is gold/silver begin the long decent after FOMC.

I personally feel your underestimating the buying power of India and China. Both countries are making a big push to get their citizens to buy gold. In India you must have gold for the wedding and in China it is everywhere according to a penpal that they mention gold as investment (due to their high inflation).

Just looking at the latest numbers and of the top 40 hashers on the hash rate chart, only 13 people are donating above the .52% average.  C'mon guys...BT is running this thing out of pocket.  You all know it's the best pool around.

You can't spare a .5 or 1% donation to help him cover the pool costs?

I switched to 1% a while ago this is the best pool around. AAA+ (way better than those AA+ pools) HA Get it?!

Looks like the Feds are going to have a "lets print money meeting" and DOW is up , silver down, gold ticking up slowly. IMO Great buying time if silver hits 35$

never buy parabolic blowoffs.  buy when there's blood in the streets.  now is not the time for gold.  when deflation really kicks in (and there's no sign of the PPT) you could wake up and gold could be down hundreds of dollars and headed back down to $500 w/o a chance to get out.  just look at the Dow.

edit:  for clues look at silver.  and the USD has not broken down out of the channel yet.

When do you predict the end of gold?
Its at a new record of 1755 right now on the spot market

I was expecting a meh day too, maybe a 200 point drop at most. This was absolute carnage and all the money ran straight into securities the very securities that S&P Downgraded. lol

It was a 'meh' day. At close, gold was up ~3.3%, silver rose ~1.8% and mining stocks were mostly flat (XAU -1.7%, GDX, GDXJ & HUI 0%).

Pretty dull IMO. I slept in Smiley

Yea I guess it depends where you are invested lol
