Mauriek, as our support have explained, your account had the email changed by using our "change email" feature that requires the user to have access to the previous email to complete the process.

We also offer 2FA but it was not enabled.

We cannot prevent an attacker if the account is not properly secured and the attacker has access to the users email, if you want extra security please enable 2FA.

btiAndy,

What I meant for that was forum software, although the moderators here are well know for censoring posts they don't like here and elsewhere.

It is interesting that the guy that was complaining about us not being hard enough on scammers was letting an obvious scammer post using my account and instead of trying to prevent it he went on to attack me personally.

Bitcointalk has a lending session. What do they do to prevent scammers there? Are the mod's scammers because they let people ask for loans using the forum? What about the ponzi schemes? This forum hosted many of them, are the forum operators responsible since they hosted many of the "obvious" ones? If you prefer the diligence they do go to their lending session and lend your money there.

We do a lot of work to try to remove the scammers from our platform, we hired one person that calls every single new borrower before the listing is posted. We check job references, we check bank accounts, among many other things. Some loans go bad, just like they go bad here and everywhere else.

Nice attitude owlcatz.

Unlike BTCJam, this sad excuse for a community forum got it's password hashes and email addresses hacked at least once, as informed by bitcointalk's official twitter account: https://twitter.com/bitcointalk/status/602017247788343296. That's probably how this thief got the password.

Looks like the total losses so far are 2.35927 BTC.

The hacker shouldn't get too far though.

Why do you think I am a scammer, owlcatz?

We are a platform that connects borrowers and lenders, we are not the ones taking the loans. We never stated that we are responsible or endorse any of the loans in the platform. When someone in this forum pulls a scam does it make the forum owner a scammer?

We do everything in our power to prevent and we also try to recover defaulted loans. We offer arbitration awards free of charge (we pay the arbitration firm to issue them), we call the borrowers before the loan goes into the platform and we also contact late ones.

We don't answer questions on the forums because there are many forums out there and they do not offer proper tools to manage all the messages. We do have a support email and answer all the messages we receive in a timely manner.

Kanati,

Regarding enforcemyarbitration we advise you not to work with them, they are using our user database without authorization (they got it from NET-ARB from when we used their service) and working with net-arb to enforce the loans, this is a violation of arbitration laws (the arbitror cannot work with the lawyer that is enforcing the award).

I'm verifying with Dhami what this authentication means. They are a separate arbitration firm and we are not allowed to interfere with the process since the loans are made inside our platform (arbitration needs come from an uninvolved third party).

Best,

Hi jwest411,

Thanks for pointing that out. We did some modifications recently and it broke the API for some users.

We will take a look at it and get back to you here.

CEO of BTCJam here.

I’d like to address the claims made by Avastar1:
1- We are not a scam. We are a legitimate business that started out in Brazil, hence the Ovo Comsico LTDA. We recently moved to San Francisco and raised money from various Investors, including Ribbit Capital who also backed Coinbase and Xapo.
http://ribbitcap.com/bets/btcjam/

2- I am the inventor of the patent mentioned, and here is the link to patent that includes my name. The LinkedIn profile posted is the one of my father, who carries the same name as me (I am officially Celso Cardoso Pitta Jr.)
http://www.patentesonline.com.br/dispositivo-computadorizado-para-detec-o-autom-tica-do-estado-de-vig-lia-e-n-vel-183518.html

Avastar1 is mad at BTCJam because we blacklisted his account after he started harassing other users, which is against our Terms of Service. We haven’t taken any Bitcoin from him, we’ve simply closed his account. For about 3 days, he was not able withdraw his coins and is now trying to claim that we are a scam.

3- While we’ve had a few scammers in the past, our credit scoring algorithm has improved a lot and our repayment rate for the last 4 months is over 90%. More importantly, investors are averaging 19% year over year returns, further proving that the core of our credit scoring algorithm works. Just be sure to invest in A and B loans, diversify well enough, and you will make good returns.
Here are some tips on how to do that: http://blog.btcjam.com/post/75934926878/the-3-rules-of-peer-to-peer-lending-for-investors

How come shbtc has a rating of 31?!?

His loan was secured. Secured loans get a rating bonus.

API keys with trading and account transfer capabilities would be nice.

Our BTCT.co integration works very well and we have several loans per week that have BTCT.co assets as collateral.

In fact none of the secured loans have ever defaulted (in the case you are worried about mass selling efects).

Bug Report

You can't sell a note for more than the investment value

I wanted to buy some of my own notes and make sure that people I'm selling my note did not lose any money IE the 4% note FEE

Feature Request

Be able to offer note owners,a buyout offer on a note

It's really hard to please everyone. Smiley I've been accused of being a scammer for allowing people sell notes for a greater value than the amount pending.

Will think about the buyout.

The first batch of arbitration awards will be issued next week.

Along with a valid and legal document attesting the debt the lenders will receive:

Borrower information:

Full name
Last know address
Phone number
Identification document number (passport number/drivers license number)
Facebook profile
Email
