It's good to know that there are people working on this. I'm sure there's a lot of work involved, but if they can get past bureaucracy, I don't think the cost will prove to be a major obstacle.

Even if you send the money as a gift, you can still force a chargeback (up to 30 days later) by claiming that your account was hacked. Even if Paypal refuse to issue the chargeback (which they wouldn't) you could have your bank issue the chargeback instead. I'm sure there is someone out there that will take a chance on you, but i doubt they'll do it for a few thousand dollars worth.

Technically, even bank wires and SEPA transfers can be reversed, but it's still the safest way.

I think a bank wire is safe after 36 hours, and a SEPA transfer is safe after 3 days.

This is a good idea, but making it secure might be an issue. The only way I can think of securing it is to use something like bit2factor.org, or just making the cards printable so that the "trusted" sender could print the paper wallet onto the card themselves.

They're 20k a pop, they need a location, an internet connection and I would imagine that they need some maintenance to keep them running. So, they need to see a fair bit of volume to cover the costs, but if you had a few good locations I think you could see a good return.

If you offered a reasonable profit sharing scheme for investors (or funders), I don't think it'd be too hard to get fully funded. But, there's quite a lot of work involved.

If I wasn't totally flat out with work i'd be seriously thinking about it. I'm actually supprised that nobody's doing it already, maybe someone's thought it through and hit a snag?

So, the "attacker" would need to solve 5 blocks in a row faster than the rest of the network in order to double-spend the funds. It would cost a lot to attempt it and the chances of success would be very slim. I think after 6 confirmations you can consider the transaction safe from a double-spend.

Personally, I judge it by the value of the transaction, because nobody's gonna try and double spend for small amounts.
So, something like this:
If it's less than £10, it's probably safe at unconfirmed
If it's less than £100, it should be safe at 1 confirmation
If it's between £100 and £1000, maybe you should wait for 3 or 4 confirmations
If it's over £1000, wait for 5 or 6 confirmations.

This is my first (kinda pointless) newbie post, so just a quick introduction.

Over the past few months a colleague and I have been slowly plugging away at our own bitcoin project, and earlier today that project received a name. It's called Una Nos. We're hoping to have something up and running early next year, so I'll post some more information about it soon.
