Re: What lightning network wallet should I use?

Phoenix Wallet works flawlessly, I have never had a single problem using it.
Thank you Kruw! Have you tested any other LN wallet or would you recommend I make Phoenix my first choice?

Are you using Electrum lightning network? I have used it before. I have also used Phoenix and some other ones before. Electrum is a more way to let people understand lightning network is but Phoenix is better for newbies. Some people also will have an issue if they use Electrum because of their newbie understanding. I will still prefer to recommend Phoenix and even Zeus.
I prefer my LN wallet to be as simple as possible and that is why I have not considered Electrum. What would you say are the pros of Phoenix compared to Zeus and the other way around? Same question for cons. Why would I opt for one over the other?

Electrum is not newbie friendly and requires a longer setup process than I would like. You guys who recommended it, have you ever used it for LN?

What lightning network wallet should I use?

Hello everyone!

I am planning to use LN when on vacation in a few months and would like to know which Lightning Network wallet to use.
I want it to be as simple as possible, cheap, fast, and with good connection to other nodes. I am not that worried about custodial LN wallets and the general dangers of custodial wallets because it is not going to transfer a lot of money.

I have narrowed down my choice to either Wallet of Satoshi or Phoenix Wallet.
The first is custodial, the other non-custodial.

Which of these would you recommend? Wallet of Satoshi claims it is free to receive and send LN in most cases. Phoenix Wallet is a bit more expensive.

Have you used one of these and what is your experience? Are they costly? Makes no sense to pay a lot in fees for small transactions.
How common are failed payments?

Do you know of cases where Wallet of Satoshi has locked anyone out from their BTC and asked for KYC or confiscated their money?

If you want to suggest that I use another LN wallet then please do.

Thanks in advance!

If you really wanted to learn more instead of just preaching your preconceived ideas, then you would start with an open mind instead of a fixed premise that "fiat is doomed to fail". That already shows you are an extremist and likely uninterested in a rational conversation.
That is not true at all. I say that they are doomed to fail in the long run because your purchasing power disappears year after year. You said that there are currencies that have "lasted for centuries" but just because they "lasted" it does not make them good. You can keep a person on life-support for a decade but what kind of quality life is that?

Back to the fiat currencies that "lasted centuries". If your grandparents left your parents a nice sum of 100.000$ back in 1920 and your parents left you the same amount, how much purchasing power would that money get you today? Back in 1920 you could have built a house. Today maybe you can buy a bicycle with it. How is that not a failure?

Because it is financed using future profits, which allows the economy to develop faster, but on credit.
You mean the interest paid on top of a loan?

This is a side effect that occurs due to the increase in the emission of money. The more pieces of paper circulate in the economy, the less valuable each individual piece of paper becomes.
But my question is how? What is the mechanism in the background that determines this? Who or what decides that your fiat is now less valuable against BTC, gold, and other currencies? Who keeps track of it? The same institutions doing the printing? Why would anything they say be trustworthy?

The law of supply and demand applies to this. The more money the country has in circulation, the higher the demand for most goods becomes because everyone has money to spend. And when it happens, the price of goods increases and that's one sign that the inflation rate increases as well.
A producer of goods or provider of services makes their goods and services more expansive if people are willing to pay for it or they will lower the price if they cant sell what they expected. But why is that a sign of inflation and what makes the units of money I own worth less?
I hope someone can point me to a beginner friendly source where I can learn about this. I am getting bits and pieces here but I cant create a bigger picture. Embarrassed

Your later questions answer your first question. Fiat currency fails and loses purchasing power because of inflation that is continuously made by governments and central banks.
OK but why is the printing of new money causing a loss of value in a fiat currency and who determines and decides that the currency is now less valuable and that prices will go up? Fiat isnt a free market adopted by the people. What is in the background that determines how much one currency will be worth against a different currency, gold, or bitcoin?

For example, fiat is not doomed to fail, it's been operating quite successfully globally.
I think the word successfully that you used is very subjective. I said doomed to fail because the money gets devalued. Imagine you save for several years to buy an apartment. After a long time, you have €300.000. Happy that you have finally made it, you find out that those €300.000 will no longer be enough as they were several years ago. Now you need €500.000.

The more paper money in circulation, the more it adds cost to the inflation.
Why and how?

I would like to learn more about fiat and why a fiat standard is doomed to fail. I am a complete newbie in everything economics.
Video sources are preferred but also quality tutorials are ok.

How is fiat created? Why is it debt-based? How does it create inflation? How do banks, central banks and world governments manipulate all this?
Why was the gold standard better, and what could happen under a bitcoin standard?

Bear with me, I dont know much about this thing. What would you suggest for a newbie who doesnt know much about the topic to do. The terminology will also probably be completely new to me.

Thank you BitMaxz for your suggestions! Isn't Robosats only for bitcoin on the lightning network and not normal bitcoin?
Thank you everyone else for trying to help.

Does anyone have any other suggestions?

I have one more question. What are your recommendations for DEXs for crypto to crypto exchanges and swaps between different stablecoins? There should be no KYC or chance of fund freezing.

Best decentralized exchange for Bitcoin to fiat

Hi there,

I would like to know what the people of Bitcointalk recommend as the best DEX to sell bitcoin for fiat? I want to avoid all CEXes.
I know about Bisq but dont want it cause it requires the traders to be online most of the time during the exchange.
Some friends have suggested Peach Bitcoin. Anyone here using it? What are your thoughts? Is their enough trades and liquidity for big deals?

Can you recommend something else that you have personally tested and where the fees are acceptable?

Thanks in advance.

Re: What is a good and functional mobile wallet for Tron and USDT?
by

on 08/01/2023, 18:02:49 UTC
I dont know much about tron supported wallets but I only used trustwallet when using tron and never failed me to do some transactions. Got chance to use imtoken too but I think only once, also got good grief on using tron blockchain. But there are lots of new wallets I think. But based on experience, I could only recommend trustwallet for smooth transaction.
Did the wallet automatically take care of the energy and bandwidth that JeromeTash mentioned in his reply as soon as you deposited some tron to it or did you have to do something on your end?

Most of wallets that are recommended above are closed source, so they are safe for now, but no one knows what will happen in the future, so if you do not plan to invest large sums or for long periods, they are fairly good.
you can also try -----> https://unstoppable.money/
But if you want to store a long time, it is better for you to transfer your stablecoins into cash, given that stablecoins (USDT) may not be stable in the long term.
Unstoppable doesn't support tron or USDT over the tron network.

I have nothing else to add to the list already posted above. I just want to ask about those problematic wallets. Can you name at least one or two of them? Surely you still remember. Perhaps it's one of those custodial wallet and exchange like freewallet? There have been many complaints and testimonials of frozen funds.
The complaints I heard were about TronLink which is the network's official wallet I think.

I've been using two wallets for TRON, this Trust Wallet and Atomic Wallet for a few years now. Pretty good for exchanging and storing TRX. Although, if you need a TRON wallet to connect to some services that support this network, it's better to use native TRON wallets, like TronLink.
I only need the wallet to work well with my TRX and USDT. No other services. Thanks!

The ones I use are Exodus and Trustwallet

The reason transactions fail mostly is because the is no Tron in the address to facilate the transaction or because the address is not yet activated (allocated energy and bandwidth by staking some small amount of Tron. Some software wallets can help do this for you automatically when creating or generating a Tron address)
When I generate a Tron address on Trust Wallet will the wallet take care of the energy and bandwidth allocation for me?

Hi everyone,

I need a some advice about which Tron wallet you would recommend for mobile phones? What have you personally used that you can say works well?
I have read that some wallets just dont work well and people have problems sending their coins out. Transactions are failing from time to time or users lose their tokens completely.

What should I use?

Thanks everyone who is trying to help.

From the wallets you people mention I think I will try Blue Wallet. I have heard of Mycelium but never of Schildbach. That answers my question about bitcoin wallets.

For the tron and tether wallets. Unstoppable Wallet and atomicdex.io were mentioned. I have never used these. Sorry o_e_l_e_o. I would also not use tether if I dont have to. What can I do when people keep turning down my offers to use bitcoin? I will have no one to trade with unless I do what others do. Using Unstoppable Wallet or atomicdex.io for the swap seems ok. Anyone with some experience with these exchanges and wallets that can comment how good they work?

3 questions about wallets and DEXs

Bear with me please. I dont post much but I am a lurker who comes by from time to time. I have noticed that this is a place in the forum where people get the help they need.

I have 3 questions for you.

1. I have some bitcoin which I am planning to sell soon. I prefer real meetups and peer to peer deals. For that I need a good mobile wallet that I can send my coins to that I am about to sell. I have heard only good comments about Electrum but the Desktop version. The Mobile app lacks in the features department. What is a good Android phone wallet I can use for bitcoin? Trusted, non custodial, supports PIN or passwords to unlock, and no bugs.

2. My second question is not about bitcoin. For some reason people like tether where I live. It can be difficult to find a bitcoin trader. They prefer you convert your coins to tether and send them that instead of bitcoin. My guess is they fear volatility? I dont like it but I have to adapt. Can someone also suggest a good mobile and Android wallet that works with Tether and Tron? Same options like with the bitcoin one please.

3. The only DEX I have read about is BISQ. I know nothing about it except that some consider it too difficult and overcomplex to use. Is there something else where I could convert my bitcoin to tether if I need tether? Only good DEXs please. I have had accounts being locked for months on popular exchanges and I dont want that again. Even if I want to trade live with people maybe it is not a bad idea to be able to withdraw USD or EUR from a DEX if possible to my own bank account. Do they work like that?

That is all I have for you. I am hopeful people here are experienced enough to help.
