I just noticed on the blockchain somebody who wasn't me sent some bitcoin out of my wallet but for some reason didn't take all of them, I am panicking what do I do
Take the remaining bitcoins out before they get stolen too?

One of the advantages of Overstock, and other merchants immediately converting to US dollars, is it prevents bitcoin prices from getting too bubbly, as it forces bitcoins onto the market to be sold. It also throws out the hoarding argument a little bit.

1) Yes the ownership is or will be, of course, contested. So they cannot sell them until that is settled.
2) He probably had to turn over the keys in order to contest the ownership and/or to cut a deal. In any case AFAWK the FBI does control the two addresses.
3) They will not sell them until everything (ownership, guilt, etc.) is all settled and appealed.
4) When they sell them they will not use any exchange, they will auction them off just like they do all other seized assets (gold, cars, boats, houses) through their already established methods and protocols.
5) I expect that they want the most USD they can get (not the least) - as this all goes directly into their budgets.
6) These people are not stupid and (for the most part) they do follow the law or their own internal regulations. We are not talking about the CIA or NSA here.
7) They do not give a shit as to what Bitcoin is, whither a currency, asset, "digital gold" or whatever. That is not their job. They just want the most USD they can get to line their budgets.
I could be wrong. I would be willing to bet on this but the event (sale of the BTC) is so many years in the future that placing a bet is not very practical. I wish I could in order to just shut up the hundreds of threads on this same subject every day, day after day. It gets very tedious.

And the fun part is, what idiot is going to buy the bitcoins if they know that the government is going to act against bitcoin, destroying the value?
Hint: Nobody.
So in order for them to be sold in some sort of auction, whoever buys them is going to probably want some actual assurance that the government isn't all of a sudden going to take a position that will destroy the value of the thing they just purchased.
So it's going to be some sort of insider that buys them.

This also makes it more difficult to do a siterip, where someone buys a single month membership, downloads the entire site, and cancels it right away. If someone wants to siterip the whole site, it would cost them hundreds, if not thousands of dollars.
Alternatively, switch to 3/6/12 month memberships only.
Had porn sites accepted bitcoin early on, and kept the bitcoins, well, shit, they'd be sitting on a huge pile of money that would absolutely dwarf any recurring membership.

If Multibit does not use the daemon service bitcoind, how is it possible to connect locally to Multibit to run a brute-force script to crack a password? I incorrectly wrote my password down and after almost a 500 failed manual attempts through the GUI, it's about time to run a script. But to the best of my knowledge, powershell and ruby scripts found on this forum used for cracking need bitcoind running. Is there a way around this? Any insight into this issue would be much appreciated. I'm divvying up 40% of recovered funds to all who help.

It looks like this is the end of bitcoin. If you can sell and get your money out, you probably should. Quarkcoin is probably a safe investment for now.

I'm not sure how this happens, but the wallet.dat file will not load in any version of Bitcoin-Qt. It just comes up corrupt. I tried to run PyWallet on it to recover it, but it just exists and doesn't spit any output out. (I am familiar with how to use it, as I used to to extract keys from a good wallet. Of course, suggestions are welcome regardless!) The wallet didn't have much in it, but I'd still like to have them accounted for. The sad thing is, I backed up this specific wallet both when I first created it, and when I had to reload my computer. The original one just .. vanished. I have no Earthly idea how that just happens, but the only copy I have. Is it possible to extract the keys using a hex editor? It was created using BitCoin-Qt 0.8.1 and I think I upgraded the client to 0.8.5, but I don't remember now.
Load up the file in a hex editor, if it's a bunch of zeros or you see random identifiable strings that have nothing to do with bitcoin, the file is probably corrupt.
