keep it under 80. If you use Msi afterburner, try making it use 40% untill 65* and then use 75% for 65*-85* and 100% for 85*

Thanks for the tip, but I have a problem when using MSI Afterburner:

Result didn't meet full difficulty, not sending
Kernel error: Unusual behavior from OpenCL. Hardware problem?

If I deactivate MSI Afterburner mining is working again. I tried multiple time. I'm new to MSI Afterburner so I probably miss settings tthat would solve that problem?

5870 only at 274 Mhash - Drop of Mhash when playing with GTX 470 ?
by

Hi,

Since my 5870 can't work with my old motherboard I tried it on my main computer. The goal was to see how that work and to give me time to decide if i will set a mining config with wich components inside it...

I added the 5870 as secondary videocard, to keep the GTX 470 as primary card.
But I'm surprised, the 5870 stuck in 274/276 Mhash when I though it was 300 to 313 by default (Without O/C or anything) ?

It is due to the configuration used? Or to the mining software choosen (GuiMiner with phoenix) ? I don't use Java actually so I can't try diablo miner but not sure it would change something?

I tried to play some games while mining but the Mhash is dropping to 200/220 Mhash. I think it's probably normal despite the games are only using the GTX 470..?

I also tried to set a miner for the GTX 470 but that was very hot, the fan quickly run at max in few seconds with a very scaring noisy sound so I immeditaly stopped the experiment, I though the GTX was to get an ugly heart attack!

Since that try I'm not sure how people can run a SLI of GTX cards?? Neither about a crossfire even if it's probably easier ? I though about setting a computer with crossfire but no longer sure about it?

Can I expect problems running two cards that are not compatible together?

Thanks for your answers Smiley

by
Wayen
on 02/07/2011, 03:33:22 UTC

Coucou,

Thanks for your advices.. I tried with my main computer, replacing the nvidia gtx 470 by the 5870... No problem, it worked, I saw the bios settings and I was able to boot windows 7...

The problems seems to be related to the motherboard despite I though, like BinaryMage, that was backwards compatible accordingly to wikipedia...

Next step is probably to get a new motherboard, that mean to build a rig for bitcoin... I'm not sure it's very interesting to do since the quick increase of difficulty?

So unlucky !

If you see something other that I can try please tell me Smiley

Ecran noir avec ma 5870 ..?
by

on 01/07/2011, 04:49:50 UTC

Bonjour,

5870 = black screen.. Need advice..?
by

on 01/07/2011, 04:43:06 UTC
Hello,

I tried to find a way to use an old rig with bitcoin. So I bought an ATI 5870 card.

I replaced the 8800 gtx by the ati card. I set correctly the pci-e cables (6 & 8 pins, the 8 pins with an adaptator 2x6 pins to 1*8 pins) + 1x6 pins.

I boot: black screen, the lcd screen (DVI) doesn't detect a signal.  If I come back to the 8800 gtx it work again. I tried with another power supply (Seasonic x 850) but it's the same.

Maybe that card doesn't work with that motherboard?

What do you suggest? Thanks for your help

Old Rig:
AMD 64 4800+
GA-K8N-Ultra 9
Nvidia 8800 Gtx
Seasonic M12-700
Corsair TwinX 2x1024 Mo DDR PC3200
Seagate Barracuda 7200.8 SATA - 300
Antec P180

People will always have their fav linux distro but i'm sure debian would do it nicely! Debian is very easy to manage with apt-get, you can install and update any software with a single command line and i'm sure bitcoin has is own package ready... (But i never tried with bitcoin yet)

Well, how virtual money might work if the world run in a worldwide bankrupt? Without real money i can't imagine companies still running power, computers, networks and without them how the virtual money might work? Outside such scenario governement are probably not liking such virtual money because it's propably easy to hide revenues from tax or to use it for controversial purpose... i suspect they might control or ban such virtual money in the futur because they might lose some control on people if they don't do it... ? i recently heard about qiwi money that is banned mostly everywhere but russia...

The system is automatic? because any spammer that know that would be quick to bypass it... I think it would be better to limit post to 4 (or few)per day with captcha for each post for newcomers instead... that would give immediat access to every sub forum instead to stuck in that place? but maybe i missed something...
