Re: What is mining

There is a learning curve to mining and a high entry point of investment (min. ~$2000) for it to be profitable. Even then it is a gamble if you have high electricity costs.

A second vote for NEON as well, it’s a solid UI and allows for gas collection. I have some stored on a ledger nano s as well, which doesn’t work as easily as NEON for GAS claims.

Your whitepaper needs some more content, such as what the coin utility is, what the issue with other cryptos are and how you are solving that problem. Graphics really help explain things. Seems a little piecemealed.

Re: Does this also apply to the investment of crypto and ICO currencies?

Because usually, financial advisors represent companies, you will most likely be directed to choose investment options such as insurance, savings insurance, deposits, mutual funds, and others owned / offered by companies or banks.
There is nothing like that in cryptocurrencies, you need to understand that you're stepping in a market that is mostly unregulated and you are completely responsible for what happens with your money, if you lose your money to a scammer you are never going to see that money again no one is going to ever insurance you for such a risky investment, that is why you need to think twice before investing in any coin.

This. Which in essence, was the original utility for 'cryptocurrencies'. When you decentralize, you lose or gain security depending on how you want to look at it. In this case, you are foregoing the protection of your assets by companies/government when you invest in crypto. However the stock market is volatile too and none of the above options really offer guaranteed ROI.

Storing Altcoins on exchanges, BTC/ETH on a ledger, NEO on NEON and token on MEW.

Bans and all, NEO still has a good platform and decent utility at this time. Take a look at how ONT is tracking, not bad for a NEO based coin. Just HODL, keep collecting gas and ride out this downturn. Or, better yet, accumulate some more and average down if you bought it high.

Re: Online Wallets vs Hardware Wallets
by

What is the difference?

Hardware (cold) wallet = Better security
Online (hot) wallet = Better liquidity

I primarily keep a good amount of coins on my Ledger Nano S, I leave ICO tokens on a MEW, and the rest is on exchanges. The only reason I leave it on the exchange is because it's not worth the withdrawal fees.

Re: Is there a site that ranks alt coins? For ROI, etc

It would be tough to do the due diligence on 1400 coins and then rank them all comparatively to one another. I think you're looking for an investment shortcut, in reference to your 'top 10 ROI' statement, which doesn't exist yet.

Just HODL. If it would give you some peace of mind and you really believe in the project, average down your cost. For example you bought a bag of 100 crap at $3.00, buy another bag of 100 at 0.50 and you average cost would be $1.75 for each xrp.

Ledger Nano S is the best hardware wallet, use that

I second this, it also works great with MEW. Just have to get used to how it works.

I have a MEW which shows tokens (through ethplorer) that I signed up for. Is there another source that tokens could be in?

I'm assuming you want to transfer to another wallet? In that case, I would recommend a Ledger Nano S if you are looking for hardware storage as it will work directly with your MEW wallet and it supports erc20 tokens. Make sure you purchase directly from Ledger team. If you're wanting a different hot wallet similar to MEW, myCrypto works just as well and was created by one of the MEW founders. Hope this helps!

At the time of this thread creation, the prices were still high as compared to now. Now I think it is the good time to jump in the market. I've also bought some NEO. Bought Stratis as well at 58k satoshi but its dipped down below 50k now. Holding my bags tight and anxiously waiting for the greens.

Unfortunately at the time of this thread creation, market was trading sideways. Now it's been on the decline with a hopeful reversal soon. However, good time to buy or average down.

How in your country does the government support women on maternity leave? And what situation in you country?

USA. A bill was passed in the 90's that allots for a guarantee of a percentage of a woman's salary/pay to paid for up to 12 weeks of maternity leave. It can be more depending on your employer.

Re: Selling for a loss to buy cheaper crypto?
by
Wxrhino
on 01/04/2018, 16:03:09 UTC
Everyone recommends hodling but what do you think about selling cryptos at a loss to buy other cryptos for cheap? You might be able to profit from a more volatile altcoin, especially with all the big coins going down for some time now.

But then again, it might be a little late for that, what do you think?

It's actually not a loss until you sell it. It's very much like stocks, if you HODL and prices recover then you've lost nothing. Think of what happened to Costco stock after the Whole Foods announcement.

Just to tag along, price of the token goes hand in hand with the supply and therefore, market cap. It's weird that people still think a coin won't lose its value. It only retains or gains value if the utility is viable, otherwise it ends up like the 46% of ICOs in 2017.
