Re: "I Have Not Taken A Shower In Over 12 Years..."

They make a good point - by showering daily, we are not letting our immune system build itself up.

Having a bit of dirt on you isnt going to do much. Poor hygiene can lead to many other diseases too, plus you smell really bad. You don't need to shower every day but every few days is advisable.

Cigarettes make you stink, they are expensive (here at least) and cause cancer!

3 great reasons not to do it..
So? I'm pretty sure that a ton of people eat foods that are also causing cancer, yet nobody bats an eye.

This is what I was going to say. Most meats are filled with chemicals and nasty hormones both that the cow ingests whilst it's alove and then what is injected into the meat after it is prepared. Many of these things have links to causing cancer.

Re: A yearlong trip around the world — using only Bitcoin
by

This is something I would like to do....eventually. I wouldn't do it until bitcoin has become more popular though and you could find at least a couple of places that already accept bitcoin as it would be very very difficult right now but maybe that's part of the fun for him. Would make a cool documentary I think.

Cant you use proxies to get around the ban?

Of course you can and this is why these sorts of bans are senseless. They just don't work aside from stopping those that don't know anything about proxies but for those that do restrictions are easily bypassed so I don't know what they think they're going to achieve.

Re: Your definition of being Bitcoin Rich or wealthy?
by
abcdave
on 20/07/2015, 15:42:38 UTC
For me being rich is having enough money to last the rest of my life without working plus having no debt with my home paid off and self sustaining utilities. Then having enough money in an investment that gives me an income of a few thousand dollars a month to live on.

Once I hit that point I will retire.

why are people like Bill Gates, Elon Musk etc still working then  Wink  ?

Well they still have enough money to stop working, some just choose to keep going. For some it's not just about the mopney but success or making a difference.

Re: Leaving eurozone - Greece & Bitcoin
by

Some peoples wish a Grexit only to see the bitcoin price increasing and sell them

flip side

Well sadly some people only care about profit but there are different types of bitcoiners. Some care about bitcoin actually freeing or liberating people whilst others just want a quick profit. Of course there are those in between too. I'd like the price to rise but only so I can get more bang for my buck and would want to actually spend my coins on goods/services as opposed to cash them out.

Allow? Are you asking if it should be allowed? I don't smoke but people should be free to choose to do what they want as long as it doesn't effect anyone else negatively. I don't want to have to breathe that shit in restaurants though so Im glad they dissalowed it in places like that.

Don't use bitcoin qt then. I agree it is a bit of a ballache for new users but I don't really think there's any need to use it with all the lite clients we have nowadays. Get one of them or a blockchain.info wallet and you're good to go immediately.

Re: How do Sportsbooks get live odds when they have live betting ?
by
abcdave
on 20/05/2015, 19:03:39 UTC
I don't think people are manually updating the odds in real-time, more likely there is a central server using sophisticated algorithms that is taking care of the live sport events.

They actually use elves and wizzards  Grin. It will be all automated with fancy algorithms but how do they get the odds from the live games is what I'd like to know. Say if there's a minor league game or a womens football playing a friendly who is updating the odds or stats as it can't be automated especially if its not on tv. It is quite fascinating how it all works and would love to know more.

Re: Are there any chess sites that allow people to bet with Bitcoin?
by
abcdave
on 20/05/2015, 18:57:32 UTC
I think there aren't any chess sites & there won't be any sites which provide chess games because there are many smart chess bots out there Roll Eyes
If you have time, try search it on google & you'll find many chess bots

This is what I thought. I can't see any site willing to take wagers on chess because even regular chess sites can just be cheated with bots and this will just happen when money is on the line. It's a shame but that's just part of the real world.

Re: Government & Bitcoin
by

I'm not sure if the government is afraid that bitcoin will take over fiat.  You will still need to pay taxes in fiat, which will be a portion of every transaction - sale/income/expense.  Fiat will have a place in the economy because it's what people trust, regardless of its fundamental flaws.

This is exactly it. Governments probably like bitcoin because its just another thing they can tax, and banks and governments are separate entities. Lets be honest bitcoin is very likely to ever become a genuine threat to the banks as much as we'd like it to.

Re: As encryption spreads, U.S. grapples with clash between privacy, security
by
abcdave
on 12/04/2015, 09:03:10 UTC
For months, federal law enforcement agencies and industry have been deadlocked on a highly contentious issue: Should tech companies be obliged to guarantee government access to encrypted data on smartphones and other digital devices, and is that even possible without compromising the security of law-abiding customers?

No, tech companies should refuse any requests without reasonable warrants. They should also start suing because of this behavior because I doubt its even legal.

“I don’t want a back door,” Rogers, the director of the nation’s top electronic spy agency, said during a speech at Princeton University, using a tech industry term for covert measures to bypass device security. “I want a front door. And I want the front door to have multiple locks. Big locks.”

I honestly don't see what the point of this is. Whatever measures they put in place to catch 'the bad guys' said bad guys will either stop using the technology or find ways around it to evade detection.

Re: Three Unnamed Bidders Win Latest US Marshals Bitcoin Auction
by

1: Itbit exchange bought 3K. 1BdmMnKQ417EpUngAnJCYmjYmD9Cud9iZB

2: Cumberland Mining & Materials LLC (Syndicate) bought 27K, 2K sent directly to bitfinex for dumping. 1DPx2UJtwCQ3N8eGiuDoZSCB7x3rAPWcXw

3: Satoshi's Cousin bought 20K, still stay anonymity. 1EAPKSvouAkFJWr5HuNF6wrz4fCN2FBvaY

The bid price was around $220 to $250, lower than the market price

If these all BTC going for Dumping.......... The price may drop again.

Why would they buy to dump? There's literally no point in that as they'd just be effecting themselves and they probably wouldn't make much on them at current value so they're probably going to hold.

Re: [2015-03-10] Forbes: 3 Bidders Take Home 50k Bitcoins in SR auction
by

on 11/03/2015, 16:25:42 UTC
They should disclose the bids, so we can know how much they paid. I'm sure this is what everyone wants to know, not how the coins were shared among them.

Maybe the bidders wish to remain anon or that was part of the terms of the auction. I would like to know who bought them though and how much they paid and also what they're going to do with them.

Re: How many people should get rich and how much is rich?
by
abcdave
on 02/03/2015, 10:05:27 UTC
Getting rich should just by a byproduct of bitcoin. If you believe in bitcoin and have chosen to invest time and money in it then maybe the may get rich eventually depending on how many coins they have and hold, though it's not a guarantee and I don't think people should be getting into bitcoin just to be rewarded this way though that's up to them. As for the limit, there is no limit but that will be dictated by the market and supply and demand and obviously how many coins they hold.

Don't believe any of FBI's lies. The bankers want DPR behind bars for the rest of his life. And they want every bitcoin user to end up behind bars.

This was nothing to do with any zany conspiracy theory. He ran a multi-million pound drug dealing business, tried to whack some people and got caught sat in front of his own computer logged on as dpr. No conspiracy just stupidity and criminality.

Re: We need a Bitcoin trust sidechain for OpenBazaar and BitSquare
by
abcdave
on 05/02/2015, 11:05:58 UTC
Any decentralized system which is not purely trustless will be inferior than centralized trust systems. The reason of bitcoin's success is not only that it is decentralized, but also it is trustless. All these efforts like Bitsquare.io or OpenBazaar has failed to be purely trustless and relying on an arbitrator. IMHO, as soon as you bring in human interference you are no more trustless and just a flavor of centralized trusted systems.

But the arbitrator is decentralized. Anyone can become an arbitrator, all they are doing is confirming a transaction just like a mining computer would confirm a transaction.

What happens when they get it wrong from time to time or even become scammers themselves? Any issue with trust and a feedback system is a tricky business. Just look at ebay. It works well when you are scammed but it can also easily be abused by fraudulent buyers. It's going to be interesting to see how these decentralized markets handle this stuff as it could be make or break.

Re: ENOUGH WITH THE SCAM COINS. BUY ID'D DEV COINS ONLY!
by
abcdave
on 02/02/2015, 16:50:45 UTC
Buying a coin solely on the basis of it having an ID'd developer is just as foolish as buying a coin because it has a pretty logo. A developer who refuses to identify himself, however, is a red flag. If a coin accumulates enough red flags it's best to avoid investing in it. Crypto is like poker. The key to winning isn't usually winning more. The key to winning is to contain your losses.

I don't think it's a red flag at all. Most people in the crypto community wish to remain anon and if I was a dev I would definitly want to remain so. Those guys get a lot of heat and let's not forget the guy that started all this is still anonymous and nobody has any idea who he is and I'm glad it's that way.

I'm sorry, but that just doesn't explain anything.

Firstly, you're accusing Mt Gox to be doing stuff that they were not doing. The still ongoing investigation shows something quite different.
http://www.zdnet.com/article/police-suspect-mt-gox-bitcoin-theft-was-an-inside-job/
--> Bitcoin theft, not bitcoin scam.

I'm sure it was an inside job and it wouldn't surprise me if Karpales himself was behind it, but I still also belive fake trades were going on (again maybe this was also something to do with Mark).
