The ransomware coins cannot be used, if they move the coins to other exchanges it will be confiscated, it was just a dumb move by the hackers. Cheesy
Heard of Bitcoin mixers?
Do you really think that they will accept these funds when they literally know that will end their business, you can mix the coins but do you think it will magically vanish from the blockchain. I am sure investigators will be monitoring the wallets and if that coin starts moving, those wallets will be identified and the coins that gets out will be tracked, where ever it goes there are eyes on those funds. Tongue Ross William Ulbricht could have done that, how do you think he got caught.

You should do a bit more reading about the Ulbricht case. He didn't get caught because of blockchain evidence. The coins won't magically vanish from the blockchain, but you will find it impossible to unravel the links. Bitcoin mixers are a flourishing business.
It's not impossible, but just very difficult.

Any coinsecure user who can update us with whats going on? Have they started refunding or not?I can't see any update on the website. They seem pretty much dead to me, in beginning they said they were going to revive the company lol

Not sure if Iam jumping the gun, but none of the BTC service providers ( including exchanges) which were hacked have refunded the user's money in the past . The closest any one has refunded user money was nicehash  ( which has given approximately 50% of the user money till date - thats almost after 7 months ) and is still in the process of refunding the user money that was hacked.

Regarding coinsecure, am not sure about their plans of refund - whether its a phased refund or account-wise. At the moment, they dont seem to have a plan ( or atleast a published plan )

For future references you are able to exchange your cryptocurrency at Nakitcoins located in Gümüşsuyu across the street from the German consulate.

Thanks for this information. I guess this came slightly late for me ! Sad
I hope this will be of use for someone in the future.

By the way, do you have BTC to TL conversions ? I see from your website that the conversion is from BTC to USD.

Trust me in Turkey you'd rather have USD instead of TL. Why you ask...well just today TL lost 0,1 TL on the Dollar and it is expected to lose more untill the elections. On April 24 2018 the dolar tl rate was 1 USD - 4,10 TL right now its 4,64 TL in just under a month Wink

I agree . While we were there last month ... it was hovering between 3.8 to 4.1 and the volatility was huge . I was wondering how much the money exchangers on sultan ahmet region were making out of this volatility  !!

Hi, have you found any places that accepted cryptocurrencies in Istanbul?

I am visiting in 8 days as part of a payments race, in which I have to pay only using crypto and if you could share your tips from when you were there it would be fabulous !
Thanks

1) Unfortunately , I didnt find any place that directly transact using BTC. Though i used egifter.com to get some of the coupons codes and used it in most places which accept coupons. Warning : Govt of Turkey has blocked egifter.com site. ( Some other sites are also blocked in turkey - Beware if you are overly relying on sites )
2) The kiosk in the Ataturk airport no longer exists.  Embarrassed

Re: nafa.in - Is this site reliable to deal using bitcoins ?
by

on 22/05/2018, 07:24:14 UTC
I have used nafa.in in the past . I DONOT find it reliable.
I have received bogus coupon codes which donot work - and have lost good amount of btc on the site because. Though I have got working coupon codes 70% of the times. Getting coupons which do not work 30% of the time is NOT a reliable transaction.

I would dissuade people from using the site for the following reasons.
1. Non existent support. Their support email ID is unresponsive. I have written to them atleast 5 times. Their support ticket mechanism also is unresponsive. ( I haven't used the watsapp number given there - since I wanted to protect my privacy )
2. If you are transacting using bitcoins, there is a delay of around than 30 minutes ( due to waiting time for 3 confirmations from network). During this time , the coupons are still listed and subject to double transaction. ( eg : if use A transaction using bitcoin and then user B  buys the coupon using cash transfer, it gets credited to user B first - since it is instantaneous - but then user A has already transferred the bitcoins - he gets the same coupon code- but thats a duplicate )
3. There is a 7%-11% cost markup  ( post conversion from INR to BTC value ) . ( this site is supported by unocoin - so you can imagine the lopsided exchange rate )
4. If something goes wrong with the bitcoin transactions , there is NO REFUND. You take a risk here .

In a nutshell AVOID nafa.in if you are using bitcoins .
I know this is bad for the bitcoin community in India - but unless they address these issues, its quite unreliable.

Re: People pay your Taxes
by

Profits from trading through cryptos comes under the earning from capital gain and can be of short term capital gain or long term capital gain. if you earned profit by keeping your investment for more than 1 year your income will be tax free.

Nope. I think that's not right.

LTCG is applicable for these assets
A) immovable assets/property ( land, building and house  )  - if held for more than 24 months  ( before FY 2017, it was 36 months  )
B) movable assets ( jewellery , gold , etc ) - if held for more than 36 months
C) equity/bonds/ securities ( held for more than 12 months )

Exceptions on taxation are applicable -
For A under certain scenarios ( eg : selling a land/property to buy another land /property , sale of agricultural land etc * Some conditions apply. )
For C) from 2018 - if gains are more than 1 Lakh , else it is flat 10% tax

Crypto-currencies does not fall under the exemption category of LTCG.

Among all XAPO is very trying to enter Indian market for run it's ful function business.
Whaaat are you talking Huh? Statements like these are the start of misinformation.
XAPO ( for all non-european  countries ) stopped its debit card services in October 2017. Also did Bitpay and spectrocoin ( by Jan 2018- for non-european residents)
( Infact ,  Visa cancelled all Wavecrest cards. ( Wave Crest Holdings Ltd. is the one that issued these btc debit cards )

But many are trying negotiation with the Govt. of India for openly transacting all the service of Bitcoin in India.
I dont know where you get all these information from !!

Any list of places in Istanbul that accepts Bitcoins ?

Iam visiting Istanbul for 10 days with my husband on vacation. Wanted to know if there are any list of places which accept bitcoins in Istanbul,
I saw these locations in istanbul that accept BTC for transactions ( http://coinmap.org/#/map/40.88652441/29.03411865/10 ) . Are they still using BTC .
I saw news that there was a travelbox / Bitcoin ATM in Ataturk airport. Is it still present ?

Any links would be helpful.

I gave you merit for following up your previous post with useful info.  Good to hear it works out eventually.
Thanks .

I would use the site more if the mining feature worked out more profitably.   Perhaps this isnt possible and its a limit of what code is possible within the webpage, I thought it could be higher returns though.

I have tried the browser mining option when it was released as an experimental effort long time back ( just out of curiosity). But since it uses the CPU ( and not the GPU - even if you had one ), it will definitely be not worth the power / time . ( IMHO)
If you are using chrome, Shift + Esc will show you what component in your browser is using up your CPU - and if you are mining using the browser, it will show that its eating up most of your resources.

India: Delhi High Court Seeks Response From Central Bank On Recent Crypto Ban, Report Says

The High Court of Delhi has reportedly issued a notice to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), the Ministry of Finance, and the Goods and Services Tax (GST) Council alleging that RBI’s decision to end dealings with crypto businesses violates the constitution, local news outlet Times of India reports today, April 22.

The High Court’s notice is reportedly in response to a claim filed by crypto company Kali Digital last week. After the RBI released a circular on April 5 stating that they would no longer provide services to a person or a business that deals in cryptocurrency, an online petition to reverse the ban was started, gaining over 43,000 signatures by press time.

Big salute to CoinRecoil Exchange (Kali Digital) - report says the exchange is going to be launched in August 2018.

Here is the official claim which have been filed.

Some good news , though its just a ray of hope . I hope it takes some force and goes ahead ... !

Okay - Just an update on my Reward Points redemption .

I got my egifter.com coupon which I test-redeemed ( to my mail ID) . So it works .. My only grouch is that it came after almost 3 weeks after I redeemed.  ( I understand ( hear) that the admin at freebitco.in is super busy )
Thanks 'TheQuin' for being patient on my nagging request . Smiley
My trust quotient went up one notch.

Okay cool.
I had redeemed 333,333 RP almost 10 days back and have also raised 2 'tickets' ( in the faq page ). Am just wondering if that is just lost in the haystack of mails.

We do get thousands of messages through the FAQ page every day so it is possible that it got missed. PM me your user ID and I'll ask wetsuit to check it out for you.

But this redeem of reward point already been so long since the first time I knew it someone already claim about the shipping and his items but there is no real proof about it. Either the claimer did not even prove to us that he already got the item yet or not. So I hope for this time that anyone can clear this thing for me, cause I do want to redeem it too, if not I will buy something else with it

Where did you get the source about selling data to NBFC's for credit scoring. It's quite possible.

If you search for "credit-risk models for the unbanked telecom repayment data india" or something similar to that , you will find enough links to this practice.
Excerpt from one of the sites .
"....using increased computing power and new sources of information and data (including mobile-phone usage patterns, utility-bill payment history, and others) to build better risk models. With these assets, and with scrupulous attention to privacy laws and customer consent and preferences, banks, retailers, utilities, and telecommunications providers can make responsible lending decisions in low-touch and low-cost ways."

I know people who have worked for an NBFC in the past making risk models who have used such data in their credit-risk models. Airtel was one of their prominent data partners. Cant give you more details though.
Take away - Next time you take a mobile connection, read the fine print. - especially about data sharing.

Nice points there. What exactly do you mean by the Point no. 3 there?? If you order something through, say, purse.io, you do need an address. Or are you suggesting this in terms of p2p trades??

Any direct transaction of bitcoin to get gift coupons (* like the few we have in US ( egifter.com , gyft.com , jmbullion.com ) and the ones in india *site removed* ) and the numerous other e-com sites which allow btc payments are direct pointers to link your physical address to the fact that you used bitcoins for transaction  ( and also to your bitcoin address and therefore your transaction history - if you dont shuffle your BTC address ( point #1 ). If amazon buys this data from the third party ( and surely they have the money to do so ) , they can easily build a network of well ascertained data streams to point to all ( or atleast most of  the btc transactions )

purse.io is more indirect since amazon cannot know if the amazon gift card used ( by buyer A ) to send the consignment to ( spender B) was acquired by a bitcoin or not ( unless purse sells the data to amazon or their kinds )

I have been interested for quite sometime about the IRA trying to traceback all the bitcoin transactions - and link to people - for taxation of their hoildings. Iam pretty sure the RBI and the IT department would definitely get the ecom sites in india to divulge the data to them for the purposes of linking all transactions to people - under the guise of Anti-Money Laundering act ( 2002) . And there would be no commercial organization ( or ecom site ) that would hesitate in sharing the data.

Take away - There fore, in a nut shell , if you link your purchases to a physical address, they can get you. Smiley

This is interesting. I got this old link where Airtel planned to get into insurance and mutual funds. Where did you get the source about selling data to NBFC's for credit scoring. It's quite possible.
It's funny how the poorest have to struggle for loan of a few thousand rupees while the rich get huge loans on the basis of simply their connections. The recent exposes, especially the one with Chanda Kochar are damning and shameful.
Nice points there. What exactly do you mean by the Point no. 3 there?? If you order something through, say, purse.io, you do need an address. Or are you suggesting this in terms of p2p trades??

Amazon filed a patent to de-anonymize Bitcoin transactions and sell the data to law enforcement

News link here

Just saw this at r/bitcoin. I don't know exactly if this is good/bad for the crypto community. But I guess, if the data is sold or given only to law enforcement that should be a great reason for Govt. to stop worrying about how 'BTC would be used for illegal purposes'.

The patent application reads:
Quote
The raw transaction data may have little meaning to a customer unless the customer has a way to correlate various elements of the stream with other useful data

How is this not a form of surveillance of data? And looks likem/2018/04/18/amazon-wins-patent-for-data-feed-marketplace.html] they have been awarded the patent too...

They are narrowing down the search domain for consumers making crypto payments. This would allow them to make better sense of who is buying what. The kind of thing that amazon already does for their "suggested for you" sections.
The burden to maintain anonymity while making such transactions (by removing any direct references and using VPN for IP) will be on the consumer.

This is definitely not good.  It undermines the basic tenets of crypto currency ideologies.

But similar data 'sells' have been rampant in the past too.
Airtel ad other telcos have been doing this for years in India - without any formal consent from the consumer.
Airtel sells the bill payment patterns to NBFCs to build their financial risk models for consumers based in rural/sub-urban localities ( due to the lack of other consumer data). Based on their telephone/mobile bill payment patterns , the NBFCs can gauge the riskiness of a customer with respect to loan disbursements .

As far as amazon US is concerned, the patent is a formal way or recognizing it as a law.  In India, it is possibly a sandbox.
This will only be possible if ISPs and third party vendors  ( where you transact using bitcoins ) sell the IP addresses linked to each btc transaction. ( which they would easily do )

Having said that, this is disturbing . A few steps towards avoiding this from the users side would be
1. To always shuffle the bitcoin address for all transactions
2. Use a VPN/ be behind a proxy server.
3. Avoid transactions that are linked to a physical address . ( avoiding delivery of goods to a location )
4. Needless to say , avoid transactions which are linked to personally identifiable information  (PII) , like PAN, bank account etc
5. In case of buying coupons/goods Try using transactions which give you the option of going to the store in person and physically collecting the goods.
