Re: Is Bitcoin Still Better than US Dollar?
by
adamselene
on 24/09/2019, 18:02:02 UTC
This is really a long game so lamenting the fact that bitcoin hasn't taken over in 10 short years is kind of absurd. Think about how long it has taken for the US Dollar to get to where it is today (just over 100 years). Now think about how long gold has had to develop into what it is today (countless centuries).

Bitcoin is money and we should have an appropriate time horizon when analyzing its impact.

No, I like solid ground and nature too much to give it up. However, I'll be rooting for seasteads to succeed in a big way.

Re: Does hoarding really hurt Bitcoin?
by
adamselene
on 15/05/2018, 21:23:55 UTC
No, that's a silly statement that's been put forward by different groups over time. Altcoiners use it as a knock against BTC during times of high volume / fees. People who look down on price discussion and traders use it as a 'holier than thou' device while secretly praying for the moon.

The fact of the matter is, just like any tech, the use case will reveal itself in surprising ways. If during this era of price discovery, people consider hodling (digital gold) to be a more valuable use for BTC than as a currency, then who are we to force our POV on the market? But I suspect that as second-layer stuff gets more robust and easier to use, and the price finds some stability, we'll see the return of bitcoin as a medium of exchange.

You realize that anything that happens to Bitcoin is going to affect every other cryptocurrency. By converting to LTC, you're not insulating yourself against a 51% attack.

Re: Is Europe running a scam with their new Negative Interest Rate for the EURO?
by
adamselene
on 09/06/2014, 02:02:30 UTC
The euro is problematic, at best, but this seems more of an effort to stimulate their economies than some kind of "scam."

Interest rates send very real signals into the market, basically telling investors & entrepreneurs that money is cheap because people are flush. They then start borrowing this money from banks to spend on long-term projects like real estate that will likely not pan out because the economy was actually shit and nobody really has any money.

Re: Bitcoin startup Circle unveils no-fee digital currency banking
by
adamselene
on 09/06/2014, 01:49:04 UTC
I'm still trying to understand any advantage this service has over Bitstamp or Coinbase.

Does this service allow clients to keep their assets in either BTC or $$ like Bitstamp?
Does the service allow selling BTC and holding the $$ proceeds in their Circle account, like Bitstamp?
Does the service allow selling BTC and depositing the $$ proceeds directly to one's bank account, like Coinbase?
Does the service allow one to sell their BTC for $$ without fees (not sure if Coinbase charges a fee upon selling)?

Circle's advantage is that you can sign up and instantly buy and sell without fees. No waiting like Coinbase, Circle assumes all of the risk.
Also all of your BTC are fully insured against hacking for free.

As for your questions:
-You keep your money in BTC.
-It is not an exchange, it is a wallet service / broker. Your funds are credited to your bank / credit card immediately.
-See above.
-Coinbase charges a fee, Circle does not (for now)

PayPal's actions regarding Wikileaks are likely due to pressure from the US Government. A company of that size can't and won't pull a Lavabit seppuku either.

No way in hell.

For Bitcoin to be mainstream ready, people shouldn't even have to know what the blockchain, cold storage, or public key cryptography are.

They only had more appeal in the beginning because of their novelty and the fact that BTC were cheap. The regs probably had some impact though.

Clueless capitalism apologists spotted congregating in this thread. Avoid eye contact, they have a propensity for violence when it comes to enforcing profit.

Regulation literally requires people with guns making good on threats to work. Who's violent again?

I don't find pointing my phone at a QR code and hitting the send button particularly hard... But that's just me...

You're skipping a few steps to get to that point.

For the average CC user, its all baked into social norms so signing up for a card is trivial.

For Bitcoin, you have to train tech-illiterate people from square one, starting from how to buy bitcoin.
Most people don't even know how to scan a QR code or what Two-Factor Authentication is.

Re: How to get money?
by
adamselene
on 04/06/2014, 00:28:18 UTC
Well you already have a signature to get some extra bitcoins, that's a good first step I think.
And also a income wich you already spending on bitcoins, I dont know how much you earn but part time isnt alot probably.
Maybe you could start a homework business at your school, where you do people's homework and let them pay money or bitcoins to you.

Or maybe invest in some altcoin and do some daytrading with them, or sell them when there is a pump to get some extra bitcoins.

Thanks for the tips Smiley

I fear I'm not young enough to do homework business Tongue Maybe master thesis business, but I don't think anyone would join.

Can't make money with that attitude. Something is better than nothing so you might as well start out with selling random junk you don't use on ebay or put an ad up on Craigslist to do peoples' homework or tutor. There's no easy route.

"release june 3rd"

.. well for me its now the 4th.. so i guess i can go to shop.50cent.com and pay in bitcoins.

.. i see no mention of a bitcoin price or any sign of 'bitcoin accepted here' on main page
.. i see no mention of a bitcoin price or any sign of 'bitcoin accepted here' on the shopping cart page
.. i see no mention of a bitcoin price or any sign of 'bitcoin accepted here' on the billing address page
........... oh wait right at the end. there you are my bitcoin friend..

hang on.. 50cents is not accepting bitcoin. Shopify is accepting a bank wire transfer from bitpay, and then passing 50cent his royalties cheque in dollars..

No, he is actually accepting bitcoin.

Just like if someone were to pay in Euros, it would be converted to dollars before reaching him.

The freedom of android is highly compelling.  Try it out for real.  It far and away has moreuseful features than iphone.  I have not regretted my switch.

Only problem is that it has slow menus and all that.

It totally does not have slow menus and all that. Not any newer device.

Re: Exisiting Business starts accepting Bitcoin - Tips and Advises
by
adamselene
on 03/06/2014, 18:43:49 UTC
First thing is to evaluate what benefit you think accepting Bitcoin will offer your customers. If you are an online business selling scarves versus PC components, the target demographic will require totally different messaging.

You also don't want to appear obvious that this is an attempt to gain some exposure. You want to make this all about the end user.
