Alright I'm making a backup of the entire folder. When I'm done, I will delete everything related to bitcoins on my macbook, then reinstall Bitcoin-Qt, let it download the entire blockchain again. When it's done, I will overwrite the wallet.dat file on my harddisk, with the one I just made a backup of.

Is that right? Just want to make sure Smiley

Yes - that's right.

If you don't see your coins you have to close it again and start bitcoin with the -rescan option.

-Rescan option? Where do I find that? Smiley

you need to run it from the command line

if it was windows the command would be

bitcoin.exe -rescan

I think it is very similar (no .exe) on Macs in terminal

Hi.

I'm having a problem with my wallet om my mac. When I try to start the program, Bitcoin-Qt, it shows me an error "Bitcoin-Qt: Failed to read block" and then crashes. This happens everytime I open the wallet, making my bitcoins stuck inside..

Anyone knows what could be the reason? And how to fix it? Smiley

Thanks,
Dymix.

I would back up wallet right away - (to multiple sources not just 1 place) -

Then uninstall program, reinstall from scratch

copy the wallet over at the end and see if it works...

Could be dying/bad RAM or bad hard drive

to disseminate newly created coins? I am perfectly aware that these would not be genuine bitcoins, and in fact, they don't need to be. It would be some kind of a fork.

Yes, litecoin uses "scrypt" instead of what bitcoin uses. it's totally different
