Modern password managers use the same level cryptography as bitcoin.  You share equal risk keeping your wallet.dat on an online machine.  :/
That risk is too high and no one in the right mind is not keeping wallet.dat on a hot machine.

Your encrypted drive can be stolen or destroyed.
So what ? it's encrypted, you can have multiple encrypted drives as backups.

I feel like I'm talking to 5 year olds, with almost every post read on this forum I feel more stupid.
That's why I'm saying goodbye to you all.

And you as a person, why will you make your bitcoin address public for the government to link your identity into it, knowing fully well that all they will need is to control how you spend it, monitor every bit of transaction you make from it, what they are for, etc.?

It's better for you not to make the wallet public than to start trouble that will take time and careful planning to get out of it. As long as censorship is not done on the bitcoin blockchain, tinted coins can still be spent if you know how to go about it.

The part that you have omitted while quoting me answers your question. <facepalm>

They can be corrupted but with Bitcoin you have your freedom. Your money is not in their hand, they can never freeze it, they will never know what you have unless you failed to protect your privacy.
Government does not need to freeze your Bitcoin funds, if they know your Bitcoin address they can prohibit you from transferring those funds under threat of fines and jail.
You can try saying you lost your keys in a boating accident but then they will flag this Bitcoins and anyone who will try to use it will be in trouble (tainted coins).

By using Bitcoin you are already failing at privacy as it is a transparent blockchain that anyone in the world can see and it's very easy for government to attach a name to each coin as most coins are traded on regulated exchanges with KYC in place.

I will be very disappointed if they don't use generative content for all the buildings so we can enter everyone of them.
How cool would it be to run from cops and shoot with them on the staircases like in the movies ?

Even the prettiest graphics won't make up for it, if we're still closed in a concrete labyrinth with only few buildings to enter.

The ONLY case I would like the Identity of Satoshi to be known is if this was a set up planned by the F.B.I. or other Agencies themselves.  But even that would not only hurt their Reputation but the Reputation of Bitcoin itself.  Very badly in fact.  I am skeptical and paranoid enough about Tor and the way it was funded by Agencies.  If I knew Bitcoin was funded or created by them, I would lose hope for a better future honestly.

Many advanced users use password managers, for me it's a one point of failure and I don't think you should have stored your passwords on an online machine even if well encrypted because malware can easily get your main password for this managers with a simple keylogger.

I am storing my passwords on an encrypted drive that is never connected to a machine that goes online, I use dedicated old laptop that will never see Internet for accessing it.
So when I forget any of my passwords, I can look it up on this encrypted drive, that's 1 password you have to remember as I find writing down passwords a very bad practice.

The password for the encrypted drive should be easy to remember but hard to bruteforce, it's not easy but you can do it  Wink

Passwords managers are a blessing for script-kiddies, all they need is to catch your main password and they have it all  Grin

It may be a violent person but the image alone is not violent at all. So stay calm, everything is OK  Wink
If you brain wash children with images like this day by day, many years, most of them will become people like this, violently and that's nothing good at all!

It will be more ok if you edit your post and delete the image attached.

Ohhh I love how you used THINK ABOUT CHILDREN, the excuse government use to ban everything  Cheesy

Listen sunny boy, your little cute children from a good neighborhood don't become ruthless gangsters that kill other people and deal drugs from watching pictures.
It would be more OK if you weren't such a snowflake.

Coinmarketcap is owned by Binance and due to this I wouldn't touch this site even with a mile long stick.

Re: Why buying a home is usually a terrible investment (vs buying bitcoin).
by
anarkiboy
on 15/08/2024, 14:52:27 UTC
Most people buy into the myth that buying a home is the best investment you can ever make...but more often than not that idea is just a myth.

Take the US as an example. The average house in N. America appreciates 5 to 6 per cent per year, which sounds great at first glance. In 10 years the value of your house will almost double.

But  most people don't take into account the interest rate where the average homeowner is paying approx. 6% annual interest on a typical 30-year fixed mortgage.
So the interest alone is wiping out the gains on your annual 6% appreciation. On top of that you are paying 1% property tax year every year, maintenance and repair costs, etc.

Making matters  worse is that for the first ten years or so most or all of your payments are applied to the interest, so you wont have any actual ownership or equity of the home,
or very little...for the first ten years. And consider that much of the appreciation of your house is simply due to inflation. So if inflation is 5% per year then that alone is undermining your actual appreciation.
I have purchased my house with cash, if you work hard and most importantly - smart, you can do it.
I'm not looking at what it's worth because I am never selling it but I know it's worth at least 5x from when I purchased it but I wouldn't sell it even for 100x - it's my home.

I'm not saying that owning a house is a bad thing, there are certainly benefits to home ownership. It provides you with a place to live, you can borrow against it,
you can pass it down to your kids, etc. If you just want to have a place to live and call your own then owning a house may be a great idea for you, but don't think of it as some kind of
incredible financial investment because it is not as great as you may think.

Borrowing against your house (mortgage) is the worst and most idiotic thing you can do in your life, you're better off borrowing money from your local gangsters.
You need to own at least one house for yourself, otherwise you are homeless guy renting apartments (burning money).

Re: will quantum computers crash the crypto market?
by
anarkiboy
on 15/08/2024, 12:59:26 UTC
If that is true and really possible, and if quantum computers will be publicly available in the next decade, then the crypto market will be destroyed. If Bitcoin, the second most secure currency, isn't secured anymore, then it will likely lose half of its value in the first year of the existence of those computers, and it will be the 90s and 2000s once again. Imagine someone developing an organized phishing program on these computers to steal Bitcoins.

If I remember correctly, in the 90s, there was a virus developed by a Filipino in some poor area of the country. The man was able to steal personal information via that virus and sell it. It's scary to think that happened in a poor country at a time when only the richest 10% could afford such a device. It will happen once these computers become public, and it will be a disaster unless someone creates a new improved concept of blockchain.

Reminder that not only Bitcoin will be affected but everything that runs on cryptography including VISA/Mastercard, your FIAT bank etc.

Quantum secure algorithms are already here:

But they are not battle tested (real attack) and cryptographers base on simulations which as we know don't act 100% like the real thing and quantum computing is on a whole another level...

What does this Dave Troy gave have to do with identity of Satoshi nakomoto or his where about? in my opinion it is quite moronic and also waste of time.. He gave us Bitcoin and Vanished to live his life peacefully. why they just can't accept this and leave satoshi alone.

He could as well be assassinated and the last "farewell" post by him was not him but the assassins  Grin

If he(Satoshi) also thinks of this fun, I guess he would have stayed initially. The government is not to be played with. What you watch on TV is different from what happens in the inside.

One of the reasons he disappeared could be to make the project more resilient, he was a central figure and this was the Achilles heel of a decentralized project.

I don't watch TV so jokes on YOU!  Cheesy
