@HitBTC.  Can you please explain, why your bank is violating the law by taking more than 1 banking day to process payments?

Thx @hitbtc.  EUR Withdrawals work again!  Please understand that it is a bit worrying if a new exchange disables that option :-).

It is not possible to submit a EURO withdrawal request for at least two days now. This is unacceptable even during a weekend. For now I assume it will get fixed on Monday.  Be careful and do not deposit until this is fixed!

What happened to the price at Hitbtc? It used to be way below Bitstamp. Not it is way above!?

The volume numbers are ok. It just seems to me that most of the trades are performed by self matching bots, who might run on very low commission.  That these trades are only performed to boost volume is just speculation.  Anyway the site seems to be good: fast SEPA deposits, EUR/USD exchanges, instant cashouts, good GUI, very good API.

Ok no answer is also an answer.  So these volume numbers for the EUR/BTC exchange are fake.

Dear angelamerkel,

We are asking not only for this letter, but also for a color scan of the identification referenced by the teller (bank).
Please consider that we also reserve a right to call a bank for verification.

Thank you for choosing our service,
The "hitbtc" team

Thank you for your quick reply. I'm ok with providing my ID and details about my bank, like telephone number and bank statements. But having to hand in this letter is really very strange thing to ask for.  So you demand from all your customers that they call up their bank and pay a fee for getting such a letter? I'm not going to do that. Sorry.

I also like to find out about the trading volume. Indeed a Very "organic" :-) question from C. Bergmann!

For KYC it is required:

"A letter from the bank branch where you have opened the account which confirms that you are the owner of the account (including a reference to your passport number or any other form of acceptable photo identification). The letter should indicate the name of your bank, the address of your branch, the date, the name of the teller who drafted the letter, and the telephone address where this teller can be reached. A sample letter is provided here. https://hitbtc.com/sample_letter.pdf"

Are you serious? Sorry the site looks great so far, but I never encoutered this before! All the other money transmitters ask for ID and proof of residence and a bank statement!  This is really unique. Could you explain this!

Bitstamp warning DO NOT DEPOSIT - they delay crediting funds on purpose
by

I deposited a big amount of money on Bitstamp on April 1st.  When they received it they also came with these stupid 6 KYC questions and it always took them 2 days to respond when something was missing or unclear. Now they wrote me 2 days ago that i have passed the KYC program. I wrote them several messages - without response since then. I still do not have the money in my account.

A company that acts that way is highly suspicious. This delay really cost me a lot (not only fiat inflation) as i really need the funds and they act like they don't give a shit.

DO NOT DEPOSIT. USE KRAKEN instead!!

@greyman - wow thx a lot. I thought I know everything about Bitcoin, but that is new to me. So these 6 confirmations that people use are there for a reason.

No, if they make a concurrent fork then they could distribute the block to many nodes in the network after they have confirmed that they node they want to attack has received the transaction they wish to reverse.

I don't understand. Can you explain in detail.  If most honest nodes in the network (which run 24/7) do not overwrite any blocks which are older than 6 confirmations  I don't see how  they like to reverse older transactions?  In the case that the merchant has only a few connection nodes and all of them are evil, he can double check on blockchain.info...

*Update

Ok here is how I understand it.  You say the attacker has his blockchain  0 -> F1 -> F2 ->F3  -> F4 ...-> F10 already mined   and releases  F1  the same second an honest miner releases his block 1 (block 1 following block 0). The attacker than releases  his block F2 exactly when an another honest miner releases Block 2  (2 following 1) and so on.  Now 3 cases:

*  If most honest miners now ignore F1 -> F2 -> ... -> F6  we don't have a problem because of the new security measure (as most miners and full nodes will just ignore the F-chain even if its longer)
*  If most honest miners will work on the F-Chain we won't have a problem as well.
*  If both chains are around equally  popular  full nodes will be fully aware that there is a fork and can send security warnings.  Merchants who run a simple node and have only limited connections can double check on sites like blockchain.info (which should alert a big red security warning while there is a fork)

Good point. The attacker could do that, however  transactions that are older than 1 hour could never be reversed!  And isn't that the whole point of an 51% attack?

The only thing an attacker could do is now

* prevent any transactions from happening
* reverse or double spend transactions that are younger than 1 hour.

which is very expensive and not that dangerous imo.

If a Merchant receives a big transaction he  could just wait 6 confirmations (maybe double check transaction on blockchain.info and blockexplorer.com) and even if the attacker is in full control for the whole time this transaction could not be reversed!
