these types of threads always have some quasi insane twist...

im really unsure of what you were expecting to get from people here...  a walk through tutorial on miner building?  If thats it, I would probably hunt down someone who has done it before and pay him or her to teach you....

dude....  someone already did this and released the entire BOM (bill of materials), Gerber Docs, etc.  It was for bitfury chips.  Search the custom hardware forum.

really, all you need to do then (you say you are funded, right?) is buy a boatload of bitfury chips (im not sure where you get a boatload of BF chips...  actually think there may be a shortage right now) then find a PCB Fabrication outfit that is willing to basically take the design and the asic chips and assemble them into your new usb miners.  in theory, its actually a viable business plan for someone with little to no EE experience, just some business sense and be able to figure out what different files in which format you need to supply to the Fab house.

good luck dude.  if i happen to remember the name of the project i will update.

What about bitfury?  And blackarrow actually has shipped actual hardware (their bitfury based line of miners).  Bitmine to me seems like the most likely to deliver (they have before)...  If you are including BFL (i honestly can't imagine anyone serious about mining including them in any good top 5 list) then why not Avalon (who seem to have truly gotten their act together).

And you are missing the company that actually produced the first commercially available asic based miner - Asic Miner.

Who put this list together?  Is it just based on whether or not the company sent you a press release?  Seems like it wasn't researched....

Totally understandable, just was wondering because I know there are people out there with BFL chips that would love to have a home for them.  I agree though, I have no intention of supporting BFL - just the miners who may have gotten screwed holding a reel of 100 chips they can't get rid of.  I truthfully don't understand the architecture of these chips and the protocols for feeding them hashes to know how inter operative a single board could be designed to be.

What I really like is that it looks like you are really trying to make this modular, which hasn't been a real trend with the big manufacturers (aside from AsicMiner and Bitfury).  Modular means good for the little guy and the big guy.  Its truly something that has been missing from many designs.

Any reason these asic chips can't be fitted with pins, so that boards and asics aren't tied together?  Wouldn't it be nice to be able to buy a wasp and take a handful of A1's you had at home and place them yourself, rather than having to hardwire (some fairly tricky soldering, depending on the chip) the chip to the board, which means logistics can get fracked up due to board manufacturers having to track, mount and ship individual's asic orders as well as the boards they manufactured on their own....

I've been watching this project with some interest.  It seems to me that this could be the model that really allows the smaller miner to scale out and save money where he can.

Are you considering making BFL chips compatible Wasps?

I am a Web Developer/Programmer and would be interested in helping out with building/hosting a website for the group if something like that is needed.

Duh, I get it - the 28nm ASIC Miner Open Hardware Development Project.  So no BFL chips...  Ahhhh.  Sorry for the dumb question Smiley

London, UK – October 30, 2013 – Active Mining Corporation (AMC) today announced that they have added over 1TH+ to their hashing rate.  This additional hashing rate has been add from the 68 Klondikes and 1088 Avalon chips that were ordered last May 3rd plus the addition of other hashing resources.  This bring ActiveMining hashing resource to a total of ~1.4 TH/s.  Over the next few week ActiveMining expects to add up to and additional 3 TH/s to their mining operation.

So a company that initially started their business plan to mine with their own chips are actually shipping with 3rd party chips. WAY TO GO!!! They are mining with the most inefficient chips out there (avalon) and they the first ones to mine on the loss once the difficulty rises. So funny!

1. Sell shares
2. Mine with non-ROI'ing equipment
3. Pray that BTC price goes up Huh
4. Profit!!  Cheesy

Either BFL cashing out some coin, or they suckered some poor fool.  Or maybe, all of BFL's so called regular customs just got the shaft big time as a big order like that is going to get special treatment at the cost of smaller orders.

I'm sure BFL is liquidating some of the massive bitcoins they've mined...  Think about it - BTC is hovering at a premium right now.  Its what I would do.

If someone was going to pay BFL a million dollars for hardware, they wouldn't do it through a third party payment processor, lol.  They would have a meeting, agree on terms, sign contracts, and pay them - either BTC or fiat - directly.  This makes no sense except for BFL turning their bitcoins into dollas, while generating some good publicity while they are at it.

No matter what the btctalk community may think of BFL - they are not idiots over there.  They are actually very good at the things they are good at.  And where they suck, they suck (customer service, mainly).  I understand the optimism, the thought 'nothing at this point can go wrong', all of the little things that get in the way of producing something for the first time...  But i dont understand how they could be so unapologetic about it.  Wouldnt have cost them a dime to just have been nice this whole time, instead of being the way theyve been.

I will post results.  It would be about 14 plus 10 to ship. with code AFC909.  I have used mcm since the 1990's they are okay.

I built MCM's search engine, ha.  Its funny to see websites you have worked on over the years pop up.

Actually they recently left our company, but I worked on their search and navigation for years....

Posting your sob story is a little like adding insult to injury for the people who are still waiting on BFL SC stuff.

Get over yourself. He has every right to post this. If this hurts your "feelings" that's you problem, not his. Everyone is "suppose" to be adults here(far to many here need to go back to Pre-K). This is not kiddy play land. Posts like these need to be made to warn new potential BFL buyers. As crazy as it seems, they are still sucking people in daily.

Also, anyone waiting on BFL gear, should have  "saw the horrible way everyone else was being treated, why didn't the red flag go up at that point? "  You only have yourself to blame.

Haha...  Wtf?  My 'feelings' aren't being hurt, it seems like OP's are Sad  Lucky for him, he got his first BFL order early enough to beat the masses in the difficulty race.  FYI - I am not a BFL customer.  But it would fucking rock if the 'Custom Hardware' forum would have more posts about custom hardware.

You really don't think there are enough posts about BFL here already?  Posts which could 'warn' potential buyers away?

I fucking hate it when people start talking about being adults and the forums being 'kiddy play land'...  Those thoughts never cross my mind until people like you start talking about how immature everyone else is.  My assumption is that we are all around 20 years old or more.

Doesn't it bother you to type a garbage post with phrases like 'that's you problem' in them?  Maybe you are the one in kiddy play land, since you seem to be so insecure about us all actually being there.

OP - I hear you brother.  BFL is not a company to do business with.  I'm sorry you are having problems with them - maybe try calling?  My thought is - you aren't going to get your problem fixed here.  I do think your problem is solvable though, you really just need to be relentless and get someone on their support team on your side.  Your emails are likely one among many.  Be the squeaky wheel and get your grease.  Call them, Skype them, fax them, and write letters until you get someone who will advocate for you.

Sorry, I really do know how it feels to get screwed.  I feel your pain....

That being said, you are one of the few who actually made money on your BFL asic.  Posting your sob story is a little like adding insult to injury for the people who are still waiting on BFL SC stuff.  You saw the horrible way everyone else was being treated, why didn't the red flag go up at that point?  Why in the name of fucking god did you (or anyone) order a Monarch?  To me it is insane...  Especially with all the other products that had been announced at that point?

do you even know what XSS is? The warning was triggered because there were 2 images from a blacklisted site. It's most likely a image hosting site that was hacked to distribute malware.

Re: [Guide] Comprehensive ASICMiner Blade Setup
by

on 23/09/2013, 19:14:29 UTC
Because it was really difficult for me to find this file initially because its original download location has a broken link, I put the Stratum Proxy up on my Media Fire account.  This is the Windows version, btw.

A big thanks to whomever originally gave it to me!  I was unable to get the blades working at all until I set them up with the proxy.  The deprecation of the Getwork protocol has pretty much required that you have a separate computer running a stratum proxy for your blades.

http://www.mediafire.com/download/744mhjx4fjdmvu4/mining_proxy.zip

In order to use it, I made a batch file in the folder I unzipped the program into.

    1.  Say you unzipped the mining_proxy.exe file into a folder on your hard drive called 'C:\bitcoin\proxy\'

    2.  Create a new text file in that folder called 'run.bat' (change the extension from .txt to .bat)

    3.  Right click on the 'run.bat' file and enter the following text:  mining_proxy.exe -o stratum.btcguild.com -p 3333   (this is obviously for BTCGuild.  Find the stratum server for your own pool and replace the -o parameter with that information)

    4.  Save the changes to your batch file.

    5.  Your blades should be configured with the ip address of the computer you are running the stratum proxy on.  In order to determine the address of the computer, open up a command prompt (go to the start bar, type 'cmd' into the search box, and start up cmd.exe.  Type in the command 'ipconfig' and hit enter.   Your address will look something like the following:    IPv4 Address. . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.17

    5.  This step was important for me.  I had to turn off my blades first, then start the batch file (double click on it, as if you were running any program).  Now that there is a command line window open and you can see the stratum proxy is running, power on your blades.
