Can someone tell me if we can run these in a aprtment in the US? I believe we have 125 V 15 A breakers. But the APW++ PSU on bitmain site says that 110 V will only provide 1200 W ourput. Are we SOL? Will the bathroom or kitchen special outlets do any help?
Run it from your dryer outlet.  Can buy outlet plug converters and extension cords.  You'll just have to hang dry your clothes for a while but you can put them in the room with the miner cuz it'll be hot!!!

You know tho, if past experience is any indicator, it's always cheaper to just buy the coin instead of the miner.  Coins that have asics always go up in price too, dramatically.  So I'm just going to buy SC.  I bought jupiters back in '13 and had I just bought the btc, I would have made out 100x better.

I am still confused what converter to buy and where. Can you suggest what to buy? I initially thought the below should work

https://www.amazon.com/AC-Connectors-14-30P-Welder-adapter/dp/B06XGQ951H/

But it looks like it is a converter for welder adapter which wont suit for the power cable to power the APW3++?

This is how my dryer power slot looks

https://imgur.com/a/Eais0

ANd this is the power cable I was planning to buy

https://www.amazon.com/C2G-Cables-03134-Universal-IEC320C13/dp/B00005113L/

The answers are out there but what I was planning to do is goto home depot and just taking that pic with me and asking them in the dryer dept.  Being honest, I'm trying to run another appliance, in another room, requiring this power.  You'll need to also buy a power cord.  The miner power supply does not come with a power cord.  You can buy a power cord that will fit whatever extension you find.  I don't have the answers at my fingertips because I stopped looking.  I didn't get one.  There's a facebook group that will be more than willing to help.  This dude on youtube is the real deal.  https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCg8qb-blh8xGMYcBPC1ntvA

I was implying the same thing...modify a dryer plug, and don't run both at once.  Hang clothes lines cause this thing is gonna make some heat. Smiley
I'm thinking the APW3++ power supply has a terminal lug hookup.
Making a standard dryer plug work will be cheap and easy for this. $20 at Lowes/HD.

If the APW3++ has a plug interface it will be about $10 more and need some soldering work...

I am such a noob on these. Will you please post what item to buy in hd/lowes and how to set it up?

I am the op that posted pics and I am still clueless on how to use the dryer outlet..

I see on ebay the APW3 uses a standard "PC" plug.

Your best/safest bet is to find someone with electrical experience to make something like this:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/4-Outlet-220V-110V-Splitter-for-S9-L3-D3-S7-Antminer-Bitmain-Bitcoin-APW3-1200W/173081170837?hash=item284c711395:g:BtEAAOSwBRFaN0Pq
(don't be scared, there's only like $40 of parts in that thing.)

But have it made with 1 double or single outlet for a 220v plug.

Then just get a 220v plug for it:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/BITMAIN-APW3-220v-Power-Cord-for-Antminer-L3-S7-or-S9-14AWG-3FT/273032967692?hash=item3f9208760c:g:pHgAAOSw301aYk-f

Pic 3 in the first link shows the different dryer cable types.  You'd have to check your outlet to see what you need.
If you do it that way, it should be up to code.

The cheaper option is to get the 2 cables, cut the ends off to get to the wires, solder the proper wires together and heavily insulate them.  I'm not sure of the phasing/naming of each wire but it should be available by searching the web.  This will only save you like $10 in parts, so I'd try to go the first way described.

Since you say you have little/no experience with electrical, I would definitely find someone in the know to do it.  I used to work with 8000V DC at work and still won't pull any 240V AC plug without wearing heavy gloves.

Thank you so much. The $150 part is scary on the first item you posted on ebay but if it would work, I will buy. The seller also wants a lot of time to assemble and ship. Also, he says that each outlet (out of the 4) is 110 V 20 A. If it's 110 V, wouldn't that negate what I am trying to do since APW3 needs 220V?

I went to Lowe's today and I am wondering if I can do the below?

Buy the below dryer power cord (to plug into my dryer power outlet)

https://www.lowes.com/pd/Utilitech-6-ft-4-Wire-Black-Dryer-Appliance-Power-Cord/3264993

And wire it with the below connector

https://www.lowes.com/pd/Hubbell-20-Amp-250-Volt-Black-White-3-Wire-Grounding-Connector/3739253

Then use the below power cable to connect to the above connector and power the APW3

https://www.ebay.com/itm/BITMAIN-APW3-220v-Power-Cord-for-Antminer-L3-S7-or-S9-14AWG-3FT/273032967692?hash=item3f9208760c:g:pHgAAOSw301aYk-f#shpCntId

Will it work? Also, I am also not risking my life by not playing with the actual wall outlet right? lol

I was just using that ebay item to show what you can do.  The seller should be able to make them with 220v outlets.

What you came up with should work but you need to be careful and make sure the connections are correct.  There are 4 wires on the dryer cable but only 3 on the adapter.  Dig around the net and you should be able to get it done.

You'll be able to power a single A3 on one of those circuits, but I wouldn't use a single APW3++. I'd go for the EVGA SuperNova 1600 G2 instead. We have a ton of customers who attempted to run the S9 with an APW3++ over 120v circuits and would often experience hashing boards that would just disappear until the next reboot. Moving to 220v circuits almost always fixes the issue permanently. The point is that the APW3++ will still attempt to output the full amount needed by the miner, but the power will likely be less consistent and you'll also be increasing your fire hazard risk. If you insist on using the APW3++, then get 2 of them and run some hashing boards on one and the rest on the other.

Thank you for the quick response. I ordered the APW3++ already along with the A3 Sad. I am also looking to use a colocation in a couple of weeks so I believe they will be able to accomodate the APW3++? Until then (1 to 2 weeks), I will have to run in my aprtment. Is it risky to run for even a short period of time? Am I risking low hashing and restart once in a while? Or am I risking to kill the miner or burn the house?

Also, can you post a link to a power cord to buy for the APW3++? I have spare ones that came with EVGA 750 BQ psus. One says 105 C 3 x 18 AWG (0.824 mm2) 300V. Other one says 60 C 3/c 18 AWG (0.824 mm2) 300 V. Are they good or bad to use with this?

Can someone answer this please?

Short answer: Its a new machine so no one can be sure. You can be the first to try it and let us know how it goes.

That said, here is what I guess...
A3 consumes 1200W so you should be good with APW++ at 110V (I only run mine @240V). It takes any regular computer power cable (C13).
Do you have access to the breaker switch in case you trip it? If not then you have to take more care.
Antminers can be loud! Noise might be your biggest concern not power.

If you are really, really daring and are ok with voiding your warranty you can power up one or two boards instead of all 3.

When you power it up that first night treat it like a new born baby. Don't sleep. Just watch it hash away all night.

Good luck!

Yes, I do have access to the breaker. Yes, I am aware of noise and heat. Since it is only for a couple of weeks until I move it to a colocation, I am ok with the heat/noise.

Should we connect via a surge protector? Or is that unecessary?

I'd be in the same boat as you, but I didn't get one. ;(
Didn't think of tapping the dryer or unused electric range lines... kudos to the gurus. UR da Best!

Do that or swap for an unused Window Air Conditioner.
You just have to modify a common plug. Smiley

Sorry for the noob question, but: If I order a small quantity of these units
to the US from the bitmaintech store, will I have to pay some kind of import
duties or taxes?

Back in 1998 when I imported modchips, I was told anything over $200 was subject to taxes/duties.  I heard that level increased but I'm not 100% sure.  I always ask the seller to declare the value as less than $200...most will do it for you.

I got one of my S5's up and so far its doing good.  Very loud though.  Have to re-consider where I'm gonna put the second one due to the fan noise.  Averaging 1144 GH/s after 25min.  Fan 3960. Temps: 51/58.  PSU is Corsair CX750M.

Cool, PM or post that thread#.  I will try to post my experiences, too.  Mine should arrive Tuesday 4PM EST as long as UPS doesn't screw up as usual... D'oh!!

P.S. "Bitmain", I'm expecting S5 coupons within a few hours of signing the delivery notice. :looking

@ Fatman3001    I crunched sales numbers a little more from 12-22 to 12-26 and I believe at least 400 to 600 s-5's have sold and paid to that addy I posted above.

Thanks, it will be interesting to see what it looks like when these machines hit the network. Do you know if they use other addresses?
Yes.  I paid to a different addy.  I ordered within 15 min.  Expecting a tracking # tomorrow.  Should be up and running tues or wed.  I'll try to post...

How do the S5 customers feel regarding the fact that BITMAIN is testing tons of miners on the live network right before shipping? I see a sharp rise in the difficulty right after the S5 announcement.

I think its a little naive of the community to think that these "new" miners are shipped right off the assembly line.  I would think they've been running them for weeks or possibly months and then offer them for sale as new when there is a modest gain above ROI for the buyer.  I find it funny how new BM miner ship dates just happen to coincide with a diff increase.  Probably not just BM either...it's just a matter of corporate greed in a relatively new market.  Undecided

Good thing I did the soldering part before drink #6.  Brought back many memories of modding PS2's back in the day.  Cry  ...good times.

Software part was what messed me up.  I couldn't login with putty after so long b/c the miner shut down or wasn't available.  I panicked, thought I destroyed it = drunken, ranting post.  Plus my batch 1 S3's still haven't shipped.   Angry

Can someone post a link or give info as to what the fields in LuCI mean?

From what I gather reading this thread, "HW" is errors.  How are you guys calculating error %?   I'd like to tweak it a bit for the best result...I soldered pot's in and adjusted each bank to 0.847V - 0.853V.  Each Asic bank seems to have a balanced voltage output to maybe 4 Asics each(8 in the bank).   I took readings from the capacitors(referred to as "yellow thingy" in this thread) and the capacitor below it.(they are polarized and I read from the side with the bar on it, it should be the + side of the Cap).  Also, is there a way to restore the factory firmware?  I may have drunkenly f00ked it with putty.

This machine is messed up from the start.  It had HW problems before the mod compared to the 2 newer S1's I have.  Also, my load hasn't changed much.  The board is stamped with build date 2013/12/16.

Currently seeing:
11h2m uptime
139.xx GH/s avg.
14,562 HW.
Load 2.30 2.15 2.14.
All asics showing good(0's, not x's).

Kill-o-watt readings:
Amperage: 1.46A
Wattage: 170W

  It's a lot better than the 3.3A @ stock 180 GH/s!!!

On a sidenote, I'd like to offer my sincere apologies for the Steve Jobs comment.  I realize that some idolize him and think that he was great for technology(electronics).  As a degreed tech guy, I see him as just a great marketer and the reason we have micro-transactions aka nickel and diming for everything nowadays.  There is one thing we can all agree on...  Steve Wozniak is a genius!!  :cheers

Sorry, too much drinkin...

I'm following mstrongbow's post above.  I can get to the edit part and enter the code for 275M...copy & paste does not work.  I have to enter all commands manually.  After I enter the info, I press "I" and it just enters "I" into the file.  I can't get out of the edit portion to do the ":wq" command.

The miner boots and runs for a few minutes but starts beeping b/c of all HW(errors I think) and shows no GH/s.

Tried again and seems to be working now.  Putty is a PITA to navigate through.  I watched the video but the guy was on a mac and it was different.

Juan, can you find out the power requirements so we can start loading up on new power supplies if needed?

The S3 info on your site says "Power Supply: 4 +12V DC input, PCI-e connectors".  Many are speculating the need for 4 PCI-E connectors.

The S1 says "Power supply: 3 +12V DC input" yet it only required 2 PCI-E connectors.  I'm hoping I can just use the S1 power supplies I already have which are 500W with 2 PCI-E.

Thanks.
