Re: [ANN][POOL] Profit switching pool - wafflepool.com
by
biochemist
on 30/03/2014, 20:26:28 UTC
We've been the lowest fee profit-switching pool since our start, but we do have to raise the pool fee from 1%, to 2%.

In an effort to keep with the transparency that this pool has always tried to put forth, a full explanation of the reasoning/rationality follows.

Essentially, it is nearly impossible to run the pool the way I'd like it to be run at a 1% fee.  Of that fee, a huge portion comes off the top immediately to exchange fees.  Using cryptsy as the example because most of our exchanging happens there, we lose 0.3% immediately.  We also lose a bit (depending on the coin) to transaction fees to get coins from our account, to the exchange, a bit more from the exchange to our bitcoin account, and a decently large chunk in bitcoin fees (this has gone down in 0.9, but its still a decent amount with our volume of low-priority coins) when we run payouts (and a lot more on sundays when we run 0.001 minimums).

After all of these fees, plus hosting costs (which have doubled due to the DDOS and constant attacks on our boxes), DDOS protection, server monitoring, etc, we're left with an extremely small amount for actually running the pool.  At the end of the day, with me working on the pool for 40hrs/wk (a very conservative estimate), I'm looking at what amounts to a manager's job at walmart.  Except the manager at walmart doesn't get woken up nightly due to server pages.

Essentially, for me to be able to justify the amount of work I put in on wafflepool, I need to raise the fees.

I've been wrestling with the decision for a few weeks now, and during the start of the DDOS/attacks was at the point of saying "fuck this, its just not worth the stress", but decided to fight through it and get 3hrs of sleep a night for the week.  We're back, and today is our best profit day in a while (thank god for bad luck streaks...), but its at this point that I need to raise the fees to make it worth it to run in the future.

2% seems reasonable to me.  It matches almost all of our competitors (who were smart enough to do it in the beginning), and isn't a huge change to the end user (1% to 2% isn't a major change in profitability).  And allows me to sink more work into the pool without feeling screwed at the end of the day.

Again, sorry it has to happen, feel free to rant about how this is the end of WP/multipools/etc, it wasn't a decision made lightly.
Not a problem IMO. 2% is very reasonable considering the service. I'll continue with the waffle.

Hi so long story short, I just need my XFX 7970's original BIOS. I lost it somehow and need to revert back to it. It's this exact card with the 2 red DVI ports. http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=8209130
Was available for about $200 from TigerDirect over Black Friday. I can't find this specific BIOS anywhere, including TechPowerUp.
You can upload the file to here for free and without an account - should take less than 30 seconds: http://www.filedropper.com/
Can donate some Earthcoins to anyone who helps!!!

Any idea if our coins are safe? all my EAC are in their wallet  Huh
Take this as a major lesson: NEVER store coins long-term in a pool!!!!
Just set it for auto withdrawal every 1000 coins right into your wallet. Back up your wallet on a schedule, I do everyday because it's literally just copying and pasting a small file, but once a week wouldn't be a bad idea.

They may or may not be safe, I'd guess they will be there but you never know.

What's the best EAC pool right now? I've been with hackshardgaming for the past week or so but things have really REALLY slowed down there.... Not sure if it's the difficulty or something else.

Re: GRAND COIN - 1 GRAND PER BLOCK and SUPER BLOCKS released TODAY 13/07/13
by
biochemist
on 01/01/2014, 16:15:16 UTC
I feel, this coin has some hidden issues,
I have tried to test

      600khs   4 days          16 blocks       4 blocks/day :: expected as 22 blocks for 4 days
     2000khs  1.5 days         9 blocks       6 blocks/day  :: expected as 12 blocks for 1.5 days
   30000khs   multipool                   15~16 blocks/day :: expected as 160 blocks / day

network hash rate is around 300-500Mhps

If calculate the actual number of block has been generated, it is matched,
but, the actual mining blocks are not matched,

I pretty sure, it has some hidden issues,

I have also found very similar problems. Results are not anywhere near the expected, in a variation far beyond what one can consider within margin of error.

Any thoughts ?

Do you have any dates/deadlines set for certain milestones? I'd be interesting in mining this as soon as it releases. Please make sure to post official announcements here first!
Also, you may want to consider brushing up the grammar and English of your OP - I understand English may not be your first language, but those types of small errors can be very off-putting for many potential users.

Did I miss some big news? I've got a healthy amount of EAC stockpiled  Grin

The big news is that the price went up 40% since yesterday Wink

Currently I am mining at 700kh/s (one ATI 280x since ATM I'm only doing it as a "hobby") and I am getting probably 9000 EAC a day at the current difficulty of 17. Now this is if the difficulty stays at 17, which I highly doubt it will. Think about how long it will take to set up the new equipment. If you are going to buy, buy as fast as possible do not wait any second.

Either way, if you are willing to spend some time on the bitcointalk forums and managing your miner then buying mining equipment seems worth it (there is almost any coin at any given time that is worth to mine - mostly new coins with very low difficulty), atleast until scrypt ASIC's come along (probably will be by the end of 2014), even then you may be able to sell the hardware for half the price you got it at.

Surprisingly, PC hardware holds its resale value really well. You could easily EASILY sell a 280x that you bought for the real price of $300 for $250 after all the frenzy for them dies down.

Or you can just have a beastly gaming PC ready to go!  Grin

I've been mining here for 2 days now with no issues at all. If anyone is looking for a solid pool this one's pretty good so far!

I'm definitely digging EarthCoin, can't wait until it starts getting more attention and exchange listings.

70 MH/s and 400% average completion (this means 4x the time it should take to mine a block)

http://eac.hackshardgaming.net/ 130 MH/s and 110% average completion (this means it takes how long it should to mine a block)

Not exactly the best pool...lol

So is this the best pool to mine at right now?

Also, the fee here is 2.5% vs 1%

Can someone give me a link to a good explanation on what attributes to look for in a mining pool?

Hackshardgaming is finding blocks on average 4x as fast as the other pool mentioned. So say you get 10k coins per block and normal time to find a block is one hour. So on the first pool you would be getting 10k every four hours and paying out 100 coins of that, whereas on the hackshard pool you would be getting 10k every hour and paying out 250 coins of that. (These numbers are made up to show the difference in pools, you'll need to make your own estimates for hashrate vs reward)

I can confirm that hackshardgaming is definitely a superior pool now that I've tried it. I've been there for maybe 2 hours already and have earned significantly (perhaps 3x so far) more EAC than at the other pool. Good tip!
