And being a whiny baby is your right.  WAAAAH, THEY WON'T SELL IT TO ME AT $2500 A MINER!  WAAAAAAH

rifleman74, despite being the fool he clearly is, makes an important point here. He proves all of this is going to work out just fine. Nothing's going to change. Canaan can ride the price up as they please. There will still be sheep to buy in on that, kissing their hands in gratitude. And waging forum flames in their defense. Nothing else's left to say.

Re: Minerwarez official Canaan Distributor

for Canaan, Steve helped me for a order made in july, finaly received in september, it was for a single 741, just before they stop shipping small order.
For Minerwarez, the late november batch was only delayed a few days, and they provide a very good support for importation process.
It's easy to say, but don't behave like me in august, while I was thinking that I was the victim of a scam, keep in mind that in that period lot of people are on holidays, and I hope that the difficulties you face will disappear as soon as possible !

Thanks man I appreciate that. I am believing for the best.

Yeah this whole thing is super sketchy, I ordered some 741s from the December 28th batch back in November, heard nothing until December 19th when they sent an email saying they were "very sorry", supply issues yada yada, but they would still be fulfilling the orders late and giving us $100 coupons towards 841s to make up for it. I was mostly OK with that.

Then the next communication we get on 2nd Jan saying "GREAT NEWS EVERYONE! Canaan really stepped up!"...only the news wasn't great at all, it basically said our orders that were paid in full are now considered "deposits" towards 841s and we had until Jan 15th to decide if we wanted to take advantage of this fantastic once in a life time chance to upgrade to the 841 at an unspecified "discount price" for a "projected" March delivery, with payment for this nebulous offer to be made in full by Jan 30th. I mean I might even be tempted to take their deal, but how can we make a decision when they haven't told us what the cost to "upgrade" from our "deposit" is?

To me it smells like they decided they sold the December 741s too cheap ($898+delivery) after the Bitcoin price exploded so decided to keep them or sell through alternative channels and cry supply issues, and now they are lining us up for miners which will undoubtedly cost at least 3x what we paid for the 741s as a way of covering their asses by "doing the right thing".

Have you managed to get in contact with them yesterday? I found a phone number for them through Amex, the lady who answered sounded very surprised that I hd called and said they could not help as they were just an "affiliated company" - and gave me an alternative number to call, which went through to Salcedo Enterprises LLC (Nevada). I did press her to tell me how they were affiliated and she said "common owners". Haven't had any luck getting in touch with anyone otherwise

https://www.nevada-register.com/1283672-salcedo-enterprises-llc

Amex provided telephone number: 509-884-6868
Number provided by person who answered Amex provided number: 833-725-2436

Sounds like they oversold, i.e. sold more units they could deliver. Ask for refund. Don't accept any silly coupons.

Guess you'll just have to wait for the new miners then.   Good luck to you.

Guess I will. My expansion will have to wait. Good job being a sheep, tough. Loving that excuse you made up for yourself to be fine with those guys f*cking you over.

I sell my s7 at 1200 or so, means this price is only $2800.  Works for me!  Smiley

Can possibly sell the s9's at even higher profit and then just re-buy more A8's.  It works both ways on the mining as well as ASIC selling.

Nobody mines with a single miner, dawg. Well, you do. But this also shouldn't be about some flee market shenanigans. Product at particular efficiency = appropriate price. That was very much the case with 741, taking into accordance quality. 821 is not that at all. Also see this post.

I agree, I would pay a premium for Canaan's reliability and distributors added value, but 2x antminer is insane. My point is, they are doing business, demand is huge, if they sell for less money they are stupid.

Stupid? Or rather competent and reasonable? If those 821 were 20TH/s, go for it. 16 TH/s? Still bearable. But this "new model' is nothing new. Obviously Canaan "stopped" to manufacture 741. With 741 reasonably priced on the market, who would buy 821s?

I mean, don't get me wrong. I currently own several miners, including a couple of 741s. With funds ready in place, I've been looking at Canaan's new line (like anybody else). Expected to pay premium as well. But 300% the price for 35-40% more power on 741 vs 821 is beyond ridiculous. This is such an obvious manipulation and money grab it is sickening. It is! We are talking here 11 TH/s. Eleven. That's S9 efficiency in... November 2016!

The "ebay bunnies" are already here too. Check some of the "feedback" in this or Cryptouniverse's thread. People actually start to make up excuses for Canaan and their distros to come up with insane prices like that.

I guess, this must be the 3rd stage of grief kicking in.

November carried 1280 EUR for 741. January comes up with 3800 EUR for 821, around 3 TH/s difference in efficiency. That's 300% the price for 37% up in efficiency.

If any of you welcomes this, you guys are damn idiots. Let's face it. The math is weak already at this point leaving aside anything which can actually happen in 10 months, even before those units were shipped, check: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2445506.msg27722732#msg27722732

Why did Canaan stop manufacturing 741s and 761? "End of line" my ass. This is a basic money grab. And an obnoxious one. New "better" series, new price tag.

"Legally binding tax" has nothing to do with accepting payments in Bitcoin. If you account for it right, it's all the same. I do accept payment in Bitcoin for real-life services and it works for me.

All I am hearing from you guys in this thread is "Baaa". You mean you're fine with paying 4k for 11Th/s since "it's all with profits now anyway" or "it's early hence the price"? That's ridiculous.

Guys just to clarify:
We hope to be able to offer the avalon 8 series cheaper once more miners are available on the market.

Why aren't Bitcoin payments available?

Let's do the basic math here. A unit is 3800 EUR. Shipping another 100 EUR (within the EU).

A821 is rated 1200W. Let's have our hypothetical miners collocated. A standard price for collocation of a miner in central europe is around 40 EUR. A standard price per 1kWh is 0.14 EUR. A 1200W device will do 864 kWh in 30 days (a month).

So far that's 120 EUR for electricy and 40 EUR for the collocation. 160 EUR total per unit.

Let's say we get 2 units.
Costs: 160 x 2 = 320 EUR a month.
Profit at current difficulty of 1.93113645449e+12 at 22 TH/s and Bitcoin value of 14900, 1082 EUR a month.
Net profit: 1082 - 320 = 762 EUR a month.

ROI on current prices: 2x 3800 + 100 = 7700 EUR; 7700/762 = 10 months and 3 days. Assuming difficulty does not change.

This make little sense. Judging by how difficulty been rising recently, and how volatile and violent Bitcoin's been for past month, even full ROI is unlikely.

Correct me on anything.

For a small time private miner looking to acquire 1-5 units the most reasonable strategy is: Wait and see what happens on the market.

Did you notice they don't accept Bitcoin payments? For the kit pre-orders only available is Paypal or bank transfer. This is getting more ridiculous by a minute.

I was ready to order 3, assuming they would be priced 2500-3000 EUR per unit. But 4k? No. I'd rather wait and see what happens later this year. With the news or China silently suppressing mining, and facing this kind of ridiculous prices, just as well this may be a moment for a local (i.e. European) company to start manufacturing quality miners. Who knows. All you need is the idea and some funding. Manufacturing will be in China anyway.

Secondly, 11 TH/s at 3800 EUR is a joke. We could talk 16-20. Wasn't S9 launched with around 11 TH/s some 1.5 year ago?
