Board Mining software (miners)
Re: What Software are GPU miners using in Windows nowadays?

Im running  POCLBM in command line on my 6850's

poclbm -d1 --host=xxxxx --port=8332 --user=bmgjet_1 -v 2 -f 2 -w 128
poclbm -d1 --host=xxxxx --port=8332 --user=bmgjet_2 -v 2 -f 2 -w 128

This command gets me 278-283Mhash on each card overclocked to 1ghz core 900mhz memory.
Its using some hacked up kernel that was posted on here last year and modified for best speed on 68XX cards.

Getting 5 shares per min on average sometimes hitting 6 if I dont use the PC.

Re: Water-cooling saved me 50W per 7970?
by

Nice results.
Water cooling had the same effect on my 6850s but not to that extent.
With stock cooling I could only overclock to 960mhz for 245Mh/s each card. And pulling 448W from the wall.
After water cooling use 2X Antec 620 coolers I got for $80NZD each.
Could overclock to 1010mhz for a 260Mh/s pulling 440W from the wall,
Cards with stock cooling were running up to 78C, After using the 620 water coolers they were running at 45C.
Got some air ducting so the radiators draw in air from out side. Bought the temp down to under 40C and also allowed me to overclock a little bit more to 1030mhz for 272Mh/s each card at 450W at the wall.

So I went from
490Mh/s @ 448W
To
544Mh/s @ 450W
for $180NZD with 2X Antec 620 water coolers. Also PC is whisper quite.

Volt modded and overclocked I was getting 300Mhash out of mine, Link in sig.
No voltmod overclocked to 990mhz I was getting 278Mhash.
No overclock around 240Mhash.

5830 is a better buy for mineing.

MY mining machine used around 300W, My small fan heater uses around 190W and puts out 3X as much heat 5X faster. My oil heater uses 80W takes a hour to get up to the same temp but once its there it turns off and on saving power.

Dont see it being any use to mining unless some one can build a mini linux dongle that plugs into it to drive the cards.
Other wise the only real use of it is leaving it at home plugged into the screen when you take your laptop out. Then when you want to play games come home and plug it back in.

I wouldn't be too worried about leaving the VRAM and etc exposed if your just mining with it. AFAIK mining doesn't utilize VRAM much at all, only the GPU core.

+1

They ran cooler for me when mining since the gpu wasn't heating them up, Still had some air flow over them tho from a 120mm fan at the front of the case.

Used the Antec KUHLER H2O 620 since its got a smaller pump and reviews show it to be the same.

Rivatuner is the only one that will work properly to lower the memory clock. Going below 350mzh makes weird stuff happen if you try use the gpu for anything else (firefox).

Well iv finished mining now, Still holding on to a few BTC which ill sell if price ever gets back to $2X.XX.
My power billing is a bit like that.
Looking on last months bill I got so many KW/H charged at 0.19 then the last day it went up to tire 3 (high usage) which was charged at 0.29 but luckily it only cost $6 for that day but would of sucked being on that pricing for a week or 2. On the low rate it was only costing $2.XX per day about $15-16 per week for my rig and I was making $62NZD a week (when BTC was at $15USD.)

Was a good run tho. Managed to Pay off 1/4 of my 6850, 100% of my 6670 and buy 2X antec-kuhler-h2o-620 watercooler setups.
Both GFX cards are getting a good using with BFBC2 online now.

Just wish I had a time machine tho. Take my rig back in time with the GFX miner client to when bitcoin first started then I would have had sh*t loads of btc to sell when it was at the $2X.XX high.

you should be getting more then that from a 6850, I was getting 255 at 940mhz core.
What miner are you using, I found CGminer to be the best since it uses the lest CPU and was the fastest.

Re: Water Cooling: (Virtually) Unlimited Cooling Capacity
by

Wont work with boiler unless you constantly have water draining out of it to make room for the water coming form your water cooler kit. Not to mention the rusting problem from using tap water.

Swimming pool water wouldn't last too long in a water cooler kit before it causes problems with corrosion and clogs the system.

But good idea's anyway.

Doubt over clock killed yours, iv been running my 6850 massively over clocked for awhile now with out a problem, Link in the sig to gpu-z. Only way you can damage it over clocking is, Over heating it, Over volting it too much or running it hard for hours on end even tho its artifacting/glitching and finally Electromigration which takes few years.
If you have to have CCC enabled you can still use clocktweak to change the cards individually.

That cpu should be fine for a few Ghash/s since its the gpu that does all the work.

Or you could get water cooling setup.
Im running 2 Antec KUHLER H2O 620. They were a bit noisy for the first 6 hours but now they dont make a sound since all the air bubbles are out of the pump.
