Doesn't matter. In case you missed it, the US is not a democracy. A Princeton University study by Gilens and Page performed a regression analysis on over a thousand public policy decisions, and determined that the effect of public opinion on public policy is nil. That's right, nil. Voting doesn't affect the outcome in any measurable way.

So stop voting and get yourself a crossbow, a first aid kit, and a 55 gallon barrel of beans and rice.

Everything is traceable on the blockchain, unless it went through a mixer. Mixers are probably compromised by the NSA, and if not, this could taint all the coins coming out of tl he mixer, so you just proliferated the taint!

Probably true. You're right that lack of anonymity is an issue, but that's an engineering problem.  Geeks everywhere are on that like white on rice. In my view, it's only a matter of time before we have a truely anonymous coin.  So let's bury the hatchet on this thread and work together toward that goal.

I think its pretty obvious they don't belong with legitimate gambling sites.

Maybe a sub-category is proper. IMO something needs to be done.

Agree. An outright ban is probably too harsh due to free speech considerations, but I'd definitely move them into a sub-category with maybe a sticky thread at the top warning people about them. That said, I think that games of skill ought to have a separate section, too.  Poker seems to have more in common with games like backgammon and chess than it does roulette, dice, etc.

Re: How long would it take for Anarchy to start working?
by

As long as it takes until people learn how to look after themselves.

You hit the nail on the head. Those unwilling or incapable of looking after themselves will never embrace or even understand Anarchism because they basically see the state as their meal ticket.

To paraphrase Upton Sinclair, it is difficult to get a man to understand something when his survival depends upon his not understanding it. That's why hardcore statists are constantly pushing food stamps, obama phones, and other free goodies. They want you dependent.

How to bring about Anarchism? First, you need to get yourself self sufficient. Once you achieve self sufficiency in the areas of food, shelter, transportation and defence, help others do the same. Share information and ideas, things like Bitcoin for example. If enough people do that, my hope is that the state will gradually and naturally begin to fade away. The main idea is to get people self sufficient and off of food stamps.

But in my experience, the best way to turn around a liberal is to take them to a shooting range. Not only is learning self defence fun, but it plants a seed of doubt in their mind and naturally gets them to question necessity of the state.

That's how I see it being done: winning over hearts and minds, one person at a time.

Hi. For those who don't know, boot52 suspended operations two weeks ago and will be off-line indefinitely. I still see two accounts with small positive balances. I'm pretty sure these are tester accounts, but I'm not 100 percent sure because they were registered anonymously. If you think the accounts might be yours, PM me with proof of ownership and I'll make sure you get your coins.

The issue with online poker is the same as table top poker.

Online == server admin simply looks @ what cards you are holding.
Table == Cameras, bystanders sending signals.

Both == Collusion.

As another user mentioned, you can definitely prove the deck was shuffled randomly but you cannot prove or disprove admin honesty in this situation. This is why I only play with small change, Im after a cheap thrill and due to my cheapness Im not an ideal target for a scammer. Its why this is such a classic scene in movies:

Pub + poker table = flip table + gun shoot out.

Wise move. Dooglus points out Mental poker, which looks promising. Setting up a properly shuffled deck looks incredibly convoluted from an engineering perspective, but the basic idea is sound ... best I can tell. There is definitely a market for it, so I think it's only a matter of time before somebody develops something along these lines.

No android support at all?

Okay, the default Android browser does not support HTML5 WebSockets at the moment. So the workaround I recommend right now is to download FireFox for Android

For what its worth I'd like sit and go's. I'm going to add your site as one to check out.
Any plans to do freerolls? That might get you some more players.

Sit and go's are definitely on my list. I don't have an exact date, but I'm shooting for mid to late September. In the meantime, you might be able to pick up some free chips this Sunday noon-7pm EST at the FoldBot promotion!

I agree, clapping too long.  I like the new whip effect. Played FoldBot Sunday it was fun.  Are you doing it again?  Great promotion!

Glad you like the whip effect Wink Yes, this Sunday noon-7pm EST FoldBot will be playing on table 5!

I keep getting a Connection Closed error on iPad, what does it mean? I want to play poker.

Do you get 'connection closed' right away or after some delay? The inactivity timeout is currently set to 300 seconds, but the mobile version of Safari sometimes kicks you out sooner if you switch to a different tab. It could be a settings issue. I'll look into it. Thanks!

Wait a minute, will foldbot be on the real chip tables? This is what I was looking for the other day lol.

Yes, this Sunday noon-7pm EST FoldBot will be playing on table 5!

You should have FoldBot talk. "I am hungry, I will get a donut to eat in 5 minutes." or something. hehehe.

I like it! Or how about some snarky comment after each thrashing? That's good. I'm doing it.
Post your snarky FoldBot comments right here.
Top 5 comments will be added to FoldBots programming for next Sunday's promo!

What % of time were situations with 2 or more players on the same table with foldbot? Because I think that most of the time it was just the same person autobetting 1 chip.

One guy played heads-up against FoldBot for the first 4 four hours of the promotion, taking down something like 4500 chips uncontested. Autobet would have taken down more, but sometimes he checked it down to the river just out of curiosity I think.  Finally a couple more players showed up which slowed the bleeding a bit. I had the delays set so that the maximum I could loose was 28 chips per minute, which works out to about 20k chips for the entire 12 hour promotion. The same three players were still going strong at midnight when I finally had to shut it down!

Folks, I'll be running the same promo again this Sunday (the 25th) from 12 noon to 6pm EST, so don't miss out!

So, assuming 45 people = 1%, then 10% = 450 people? Or about 50 tables? Or, you simply haven't been able to test that many? Could you theoretically accommodate 4500 simultaneous connections on your current hardware, or would that kill it?

I haven't tested that many, so I don't know.  I'll consider myself lucky to get just one full table of regulars at this stage, so I'm not going to worry about it. I'll consider the project a success if I make enough to cover hosting costs and whatnot.

I want to do something similar, but I'm hesitant because 1. I'm not really a good coder, 2. I don't know all the different rules of poker.

It's a big project. I've been pecking at the boot52 code for five months now and there's still a lot more to do. It's time and effort, just like everything else. The 'mental poker' concepts y'all have been talking about look interesting. I might take a stab at it one of these days if see enough interest among players.

But I've been winning against FoldBot. Kinda boring since it was on the play money tables though.

The bitcoin version of FoldBot got raked over the coals pretty bad on Sunday. I lost about .7 bitcoins on that promotion. The 'play money' version isn't nearly as fun! I'll be doing another bitcoin FoldBot promotion this Sunday between 12 noon and 6pm EST, so be sure to check that out!

I put .05 BTC in to test what would happen and left for an hour.  Looked again....LOL GONE.

What is your handle on the site? I rebooted the server twice on Sunday to fix a bug in FoldBot, so it's possible something bad happened during the reboot. If your story matches up with what I see in the logs, I'll gladly refund your coins and comp you.

I just checked it out, and it looks like foldbot is only on one table, and that's a playmoney table.

Looks like I forgot to mention the date and time in this thread, so my bad. The FoldBot promotion was held on Sunday the 18th between 12 noon and midnight, announced here and here. Obviously I can't run that promotion every day or I'd go broke fast!

Also, the betting is a little confusing.  If the other player has put in 20 and I've put in 10, adding the extra 10 to match his 20 is usually referred to as "calling", but on your site it's all just "bet".  And the "min, 2bb, 3bb, etc" buttons are weird.  When opening the betting, I want to put in 1bb.  Clicking 2bb sets the amount to 20, 3bb sets it to 30, but 'min' sets it to 0.  I don't see any way of opening the betting at 1bb, other than typing it.

Fixed. I originally had a "call button", but then I decided removed it because iPhone beta testers were making "fat finger" mistakes when the buttons were too small and scrunched together. I figured I could get almost the same functionality with just one button and save screen space. But that just confused people, so I put it back.
Simplest might just be to replace all the "bb" buttons along the bottom with "slider" to control bet sizing. I'll give it some more thought.

Oh, and the sound effects are over the top.  I don't need 10 seconds of applause each time I win a hand!  The delay between hands is too long too I think.

Agreed. The delay is now 5 seconds and the sound effects are now more in line with the overall theme of the site. Thanks for the great feedback dooglus! I'd comp you, but somehow I don't think you need any more coins!

No android support at all?

It's on my list. The software hasn't been tested on Android yet mainly because nobody in my family owns one.
I'll see if I can borrow an Android from somebody and get that working ASAP. I'm sure there is a way.
Thanks for letting me know!

any tournaments?

Not yet, but it's on my list. I can make it a priority if there is a demand for it, but right now more people are asking me about PLO, so that's what I'm working on next.

I notice your poker site has a 25 second shot clock count down timer. Are all other poker sites like this? Yours is the first I've played. I'll go try the other ones later.

Most poker sites give you more time to think. Deep thinkers drive me bonkers, so I decided to shorten up the time limit.

Hey boot52, what kind of server do you have to run 8 tables? That means 9 players per table = 72 maximum players? Bots included.

Nothing special server side. Boot52 runs CentOS 64 bit on a single box with 4GB RAM. The software was tested with 5 full tables (9 x 5 = 45 simultaneous connections) and it passed with flying colors, using less than 1 percent of system resources in terms of CPU and RAM.
HTML5 WebSockets are incredibly efficient to begin with, so you shouldn't need any beefy hardware if your code is tight.

Just had time for a quick pass with it this morning.  um... please make handy a sound-kill switch!
Looks fun... but no players except one in the freechips area

A volume control slider is on my todo list. Thanks!

FoldBot Returns!
Sunday, August 25th noon-7pm EST
Live at Boot52
Don't miss this golden opportunity to stomp FoldBot's shiny metal head into the ground!

Hey! I want to tell you about a mind-blowing new feature we just added to Boot52 called FoldBot.

What's FoldBot? FoldBot is a poker robot I designed with one very simple instruction: fold. That's all FoldBot does and it does it well. You bet, FoldBot folds. Every time. I guarantee it.

Heads-up against FoldBot is basically just free money. Things get interesting in multi-way pots. Here's how it works. If nobody raises preflop, FoldBot is programmed to lose exactly one big blind per hand. It just puts dead money in the pot.  However, if somebody does raise preflop and FoldBot isn't in the hand yet, then FoldBot will fold without putting anything in the pot. Makes it interesting, no?

Why are we giving away coins like this? Let's just call this what it is: a bribe.
Plus deals like this are a lot cheaper than buying banner ads and props. A lot more interesting too, no?

So git the hitch out of your get-along and mosey on over to Boot52!
The site link again is http://boot52.nl

maybe you should do something like:
Every user of bitcointalk that writes here his nickname receive x chips, if caught in multi account you will not receive any more money, something like that.

Good point! Anyone who wants to take a whack at FoldBot this afternoon, just post your boot52 handle right here and I'll credit your account with a few chips. To qualify, you must be a forum member in good standing and you can't be a newbie.
