...which makes me wonder what people were expecting.
Probably because it depends on the people smart enough to know how to use cryptocurrency yet dumb enough to pay for porn.

-- the same battle happened between VHS and Betamax, and again the porn industry chose VHS and it won.  Betamax was better in every way (technically speaking).
That was back when porn in the home was much harder to acquire and view. This was not true in 2006. Also, the PlayStation 3 tilted the balance.

when the battle was on between HD-DVD and Blu-Ray, everyone knew the winner would be decided by which format the porn industry chose.  And they chose Blu-Ray.
Blu-ray won because it had more capacity and bandwidth.

Just to name a few in recent memory Sony, JP Morgan, Home Depot, can go on and on.
I remember that Home Depot press release that said, "Hey, everyone gets hacked. We're kind of glad it happened. No big deal."

LoopX apparently just exit scammed. Tons of YouTubers complaining about it.

These scams continue to hurt the perception of the whole industry.

The industry needs regulation.

But regarding all the coins, get used to it. Cryptocurrency is open source. Forking is natural and common on open source projects.

He is worth something like $100 million. He doesn't need to be involved in Bitcoin. This is not a story.

It is a good question. Many people never get comfortable with computers or technology. The cryptocurrency market may not reach a wide general audience unless that barrier can be overcome.

Looks like DavorCoin exit scammed earlier today. Sad to see the YouTube videos of those who lost big money. I wish we could successfully warn these people away before they do something dumb, but scams are everywhere.

If these scams continue, it will hurt the perception of the cryptocurrency market, which doesn't help.

Re: Stop Asking if Bitcoin is Dead
by

I know the question is annoying but it does reveal the trepidation that many people will have. It's understandable why they feel that way.  People in general have an understanding of their country's fiat currency. They probably know it can go through inflation or deflation. But they don't expect to wake up tomorrow to see their fiat currency go to zero. With these digital assets that they don't understand, it's understandable why they think Bitcoin can disappear tomorrow.

Expanding these markets will take time and education. Don't expect newbies to not be concerned.

If the program code is open source, it can be reviewed for security and ported to other systems, regardless of the original operating system.

Re: The security of cryptocurrencies is an issue for some people.

If you are serious about your funds, keep them in an actual digital wallet, fortify your OS, and you should -hypothetically- never lose them.
People don't have to have any kind of technical knowledge like that to have their fiat currency be safe in a bank. And each USA fiat account is FDIC insured for $250,000 even if the bank owner makes off with the money.

There is a fundamental and legitimate issue with cryptocurrencies. The private keys must be kept safe. Keeping them safe (and even understanding what they are) requires more knowledge of computers than it does when dealing with standard fiat currencies. This is a real barrier to wide general adoption.

Well, yes and no. It is true that those behind Bitcoin.com want to call Bitcoin Cash the "real" Bitcoin. And they use "Bitcoin Core" to refer to Bitcoin. It would be better if these folks did not own that domain.

On the other hand their guide to buying Bitcoin, which includes a link to buying Bitcoin through a credit card (through Simplex which I assume they are partnering with), is for buying actual Bitcoin, not Bitcoin Cash.

Personally I favor Bitcoin over Bitcoin Cash, but Bitcoin Cash does not qualify as a "scam". It is a competitor.

People are going to have to get used to forks happening in this industry. Forks are a fundamental property of open source software and it is going to continue.

At least users can double check the address. But I'm not clear on exactly what clicking the "monitor" button does. If malware is present, could it also interfere with that process?
