Just checking back in to see how @wizkid057 is doing.  Still run a node and a miner (miner is just for fun at this point and to say I do it).
Found something interesting on this site https://bitcoinstrings.com/ claims to translate the data text field of transactions.  In blk00022.txt there's an entry "/.--wizkid057's block--wizkid057.com/btc --PP" and in blk00012.txt is the first entry "Z---wizkid057's block--OMFG I DID IT YAY!O".
How long have you been in bitcoin??

Yep, that and p2pool were the way to go. And given that other pools "vanished" along the way *grumble* with coin balances it was nice to get paid for work done.

Miss it, slush is a fine pool, just isn't quite the same.
Slush skips block transaction verification and mines empty blocks.

As for coinbase payout: you still have to wait the full 101 confirms (over 16hrs) - a pool that sends the payout at that point may only add a few more confirms (less than an hour) or even only one confirm (average 10 minutes)
But ... some new miners don't support it since it's a MUCH bigger coinbase transaction
obviously that also means a much larger work size being sent from the pool to the miner.
Block distribution is now highly optimised - but it can never optimise the coinbase transaction since it will ALWAYS be an unknown transaction that needs to be sent with the block header, thus if you make it large, you're slowing down the block distribution.
Also, as is very well known, this pool had a very high orphan rate - around 3% compared to around 1% for most pools back then.

The wait was never a big deal, but I've never thought about the block header, you are absolutely correct. Anyway it was nice to have the mining symbol in your core wallet, still own some unspent coinbase inputs  Grin
Its been a long time since I've seen the mining symbol in my wallet.  I think deepbit was the only other pool I was on that did that.

Newegg Insider W/ Ben Tibbels, inaccurate article
by
btcrealm
on 27/02/2021, 05:22:15 UTC
This article showed up in my email as part of a Newegg email update.  I read through it and posted the below reply.  I think it was deleted instead of approved (no surprise right).  I was probably too harsh in the beginning but I don't see how his statements could be mistakes and not shilling expensive products for Newegg that are not necessarily in the end users best interest.  The title is also misleading.  It was also difficult to cover much of what he said in a short comment (I hadn't intended as much information as I ended up with).
Not sure what else I can do but put it here and hope some people come across it.  This may have been better in https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=39.0, if so my appoligies.
https://www.newegg.com/insider/building-a-cryptocurrency-mining-rig-how-to-keep-costs-small-and-profits-big/

Ben, I hope you are just out of date and not trying get people to buy inefficient hardware for far too much money.
First, I am glad to see articles out there that try to inform people of what the general concept is.  In a very basic generalized sense you are correct.
There is a lot more detail that needs to go into understanding the concept of a "wallet".  I won't put any links here but will provide search criteria examples for people.  When trying to find a wallet or how they work searching for things like "what is the best wallet for bitcoin" and "how do bitcoin wallets work" are a good start (replacing bitcoin with whatever cryptocurrency is being looked up).

CPU - As far as mining coins goes the CPU these days is not very important, there are a very few that a CPU is still good for.  Search with terms like this "what cryptocurrencies can be mined with CPU".  A high end CPU will generally not be worth the money as most of the hashing these days is done by GPUs or ASICS.

GPU - Generally GPUs are the best options and right now NVIDIA GPUs are on top (years ago ATI GPUs were hard to find and NVIDIA were easy to get).  Searches like "best cryptocurrency to mine with gpu" and "Mining Profit Calculator for Video Card (GPU)" will bring up sites that talk about what to mine and have calculators that determine based on the cards being used what the best currencies to mine are.

FPGA - FPGA miners were dedicated miners that were better than GPU miners for some cryptos but are not as good as ASICS.  If anyone says they are selling FGPA miners please ignore them as there are ASICS miners available for the same cryptos.  This was a thing before ASICS made it to market.

ASICS - ASICS are purpose built chips for doing one process.  This is why when they are used with a MATCHING (pay attention to that before buying) cryptocurrency they are so efficient.  A CPU and GPU are multipurpose and can run many different algorithms.  Power efficiency is most important with ASICS as they draw much more power than GPUs do.  The efficiency is rated (at this point) in Joules per TeraHash or J/TH.  At the moment (February 2021) the most efficient unit is the Bitmain Antminer S19 Pro at ~110TH with a ~29.5 J/TH efficiency rating, this unit sells from Bitmain for approximately $3,500 but is out of stock and is listed on ebay for between $10,000 and $12,000.  This is a little more expensive (on eBay) than the listed WhatsMiner ($8,500 on Newegg) but that unit is only 33TH and an efficiency of ~68 J/TH (averaged between the 2200-2300W).  The Bitmain Antminer S9 that is being compared is from 2017.

TIME/POWER - When mining it needs to be clarified that the efficiency and profitability of a unit goes down quickly.  A unit that is 1+ years old is probably no longer current and the efficiency from release is at least cut in half.  If a miner cannot break even including power in less than a year it may never be profitable, search "bitcoin hashrate calculator".  As newer ASICS and GPUs are released the hashrate goes up and the power efficiency is increased, search "what does hashrate mean".

EFFICIENCY - Efficiency is partially a mathematical equation and partially a personal preference/interest/goal.  I often tell people "At this point mining is a trade in value.  The expense of the miner and the cost of power for the trade to the cryptocurrency you want to own.  There is no longer a get rich quick mining scheme.".  There are multiple things to consider as well with mining.  What is efficient for the hardware being used.  Does it really matter which coin is being mined/where can that coin be traded for the one wanted.
The hardware available will have a large effect on what is mined (look up the hashrate/hardware calculator information above).  As far as does it matter what is being mined, that is something that must personally be decided.  Do you want to mine your own coins?  Are you ok with mining an efficient coin and trading on an exchange for the coins you want?

EXCHANGES vs WALLETS - A wallet is a pair of public and private "keys" that are stored in a file on a device (computer, phone, tablet, etc).  An exchange "owns" all the cryptocurrency on the exchange, it is in their possession.  The point of the wallet and blockchain is for an individual to own their cryptocurrencies, this is only accomplished by having a wallet.
RISK - There are a lot of risks that need to be understood with owning a wallet.  Search "risks of a bitcoin wallet", "backing up a bitcoin wallet", and "securing your bitcoin wallet".

I hope this helps people make educated decisions to keep from losing their investments and making poor/uneducated purchasing decisions.

I haven't heard or found anything on it any newer than what you have.  The only document I've seen that has a newer date on is this https://ccrjustice.org/sites/default/files/attach/2019/04/75%20Ps'%20Reply%20in%20Supp.%20Motion%20to%20Amend%202019.02.13.pdf but there is no new information on it.  I was never in direct contact with the plaintiffs but Brandon Gordon might be the only way to get an update.
Zach hasn't really responded to anyone that new him before he started Lab Rat Mining since things really started going south.

He's alive. I'm not comfortable giving the details of his personal life, though, so I'll have to just leave it at that.

He did say he'd make a forum post soon... I'll remind him again.
Thanks Luke for the update.  Glad he's still alive.  Hope he's doing alright with whatever his situation is.

@wizkid057, you still alive out there somewhere?
Is Eligius still something you want to work on?  If not I can understand that, there are a bunch of us that miss and enjoyed your work.

2019 - I'm ready for that update to the pages whenever you are! It would be great to see some new competition across the pool board. I'll check back periodically in case there's any change. Thank you for the project over the years.
Agreed, checking back in to see as well.

I've been searching everywhere and can't find the answer so I'll ask here.  What makes a wallet generation compatible?  I have a hardware key (keepkey) that I'm currently using but have no idea if it'll work.  Can someone confirm?
IF this is what you have https://www.keepkey.com/ it looks like it just creates a public key you can type into the user field.
As far as using it after you receive BTC it looks like they have software that when you connect the device knows what it is and you use the hardware key to make payments.  I have not played with this system at all but at the very least you need to have backed up your private key word string, if you haven't done that and the hardware fails you will never get your BTC back.

How can I see the statistics? I do not have any information on the work of the pool. There is only a menu in the work of the "alive" miner.
help me please
Based on this question 4 th/s will not get you very much on any pool.
This pool the statistics page is not currently working.
This pool has a low hash rate and does not solve blocks quickly.  It may be a while before you receive a payment.  It is a reliable pool.
You will need to put the information in correctly or you will not receive your payments.  There is no way for the pool owner to pay you if the information is not correct.

NODEhaven you may be right on the others fudging their definition of what a 7nm chip is but it should still be better than the leading current product (S9).
Here is the TSMC article that people are talking about (I'm not sure if this is the original one, the same article is on multiple sites).
http://bitcoinglobal.news/chip-giant-tsmc-expects-strong-demand-for-cryptocurrency-mining-to-continue/

The chips that are used for mining are not as complex as what would be used in a phone or for multitasking.  An ASICs chip is single very fast processing, not a lot of swapping with memory and multiple threads.  It may be easier due to the lack of complexity.

I was mining at Eligius from the early 2014 to 2017-09-28. Last payment I received was 2017-05-25.
I must admit, that I am not very familiar with the pool rules. Because of that, I have the following question: am I eligible at all for payment for the last 4 months of mining (from May to September) as there was no mined block at this time? I was mining with Antminer S1 and KnC miner (400Ghz).
Due to the stats page being down many people have migrated to other pools.  Eligius has not solved many blocks recently.  Wizkid is still doing payouts when a block is solved.  You may want to PM him your payment address as that is the only way he will know who you are/what you have.

Good to see your still up and kicking wiz, I don't check in very often these days.  Sorry : (

Its amazing this is all the rant that people get at this point for the level of useless frustration they cause.  I can say after this much crap I would have to rewrite my response at least 6 times to tone it down this much.  wizkid057 put up this pool with no strings attached and no requirements for people to mine at.  I'm sure only a percentage of us ever donated and although I am not currently mining here I do check in and will come back when things are up and running if he gets the chance to bring it back up.  If not it was a good run and I'm still glad to see he's around and kicking.  And I hope you the best either way!
As has been stated, If you were due a payout, it was paid.  If you were not, you were not paid.  That's pretty much the end of the discussion.

Why would I waste time digging through data and making special arrangements to payout some dust balance below the given threshold for a payout of any kind when putting time and effort into keeping things running while also getting things back on track here is a much higher priority?

No one is telling you to mine here, nor do I (or probably anyone else) really care what you believe or otherwise feel about the pool.  By all means, mine wherever you're comfortable doing so, or not at all.  There are plenty of people continuing to mine at Eligius and do so even now.  No one said you have to be among them.  I do think it is worth pointing out that if you had continued to mine here vs just complaining about a dust balance that may or may not even exist, perhaps you would have gotten a payout in the last block.  Roll Eyes

You've come here multiple times claiming you are owed something, you don't even provide any details that would even allow me to check anything anyway, and even had the gall to ask that some donation made previously be returned.  I'm not going out of the way to waste time chasing down your dust payout just because you think I should.  Sorry to have to be the one to break it to you, but that's not how the world works.

If you want the pool to pay you, then mine like everyone else.  If not, stop wasting everyone's time.

All of that said, further posts on this subject will be removed without warning... so just don't bother.

Thanks to everyone else for your continued support.
