Re: Bitcoin will have no more big "to the moon" rises anymore. Face reality

Perma-bulls can be annoying creatures. They belittle and slander anyone who forms an opinion different from their own whilst they hope somebody else props up the price so they can cash out later. I've seen many a posts these people will be buying if btc ever reaches xyz dollars, well here it is on clearance with a 60% discount and its crickets.

Don't get me wrong, it was a great social experiment when mining was decentralized, but now that ASIC's control the market, the price and difficulty are turn-offs to newcomers. Greed drove the market up. Now greed is driving it back down, but this time I expect a longer capitulation cycle before next ATH, if ever.

Quantum Computers and Bitcoin

Bitcoin has been a great social experiment thus far, but there have been recent developments in quantum computing. Speculatively speaking, what effect might this have on bitcoin and the next generation of cryptocurrencies?

http://bits.blogs.nytimes.com/2014/03/24/quantum-computing-research-may-back-controversial-company/?_php=true&_type=blogs&_r=0

"While the controversy has gone on for years, it may reach an end within a year or two. Mr. Williams said that in April, D-Wave will be conducting experiments with a machine managing over 1,000 qubits, about twice the number currently inside its best machine.

A 2,000-qubit machine is scheduled for the end of the year, and will be ready for experiments within a few months after that. If D-Wave can rapidly solve the kind of large problems a machine like that is expected to, that would perhaps be the most persuasive evidence possible that we have entered a new computing era."

The article covers a somewhat negative topic of bitcoin... bankruptcy and a lawsuit, both of which are turn-offs to most people. NPR also covered the mtgox fiasco a couple of times and the comments were generally negative and ignorant of bitcoin, but still received quite a number of up-votes... Basically the peanut gallery heckling something they don't comprehend.

That's fine though... Once ASIC's hit retail at your local Best Buy, it'll be a good time to be holding while the peanut gallery is still watching from the sidelines.

Conspiracy theory:
Jan. 2009 address was obviously an early adopter and perhaps a current member of the bitcoin foundation. The large sum was used to entice DPR make a "messy mistake" allowing the feds to better trace him over the next 6-7 months before finally nabbing him.

...but this ridiculous price bubble will destroy Bitcoin and probably all other cryptocurrencies when it pops. For 99.99% of the Bitcoin community this is irrelevant as you are involved purely to profit, you have no ideological interest in the underlying concept, but for those who are genuinely interested in alternative currency models it's a pending disaster.

The speculators will move on when it crashes, the winners will take their winnings and the losers will lick their wounds. The people left behind who are ideologically invested and not just financially so will find they've been left salted earth.

I see. BTW, how has ripple been working out for you?

OP expends quite a bit of energy trying to find fault with Bitcoin.

Isn't there something better you can do with your time, revans?

Are you here to save us from ourselves?

Why do you care what happens to Bitcoin?
+1
The market has already proven him wrong countless times.

And what if...

My argument as now revealed is solid...

Using a "what if" statement to define a "solid argument" is completely non-sequitor. In reality, it's ok to be upset cos you blew your load early, but you don't have to turn into a troll over it. We'll even let you buy back in whenever you want.  Cheesy

Re: Bitcoin really is in trouble.

Typically, Bitcoin cultists have dismissed the latest which demonstrates that Bitcoin has a fundamental vulnerability. Some salient facts pertinent to this issue largely ignored by this community of rampant speculators.

1. Despite what Bitcoin cultists claim, Bitcoin does have a central authority. Specifically, the group responsible for the most popular Bitcoin client wields as much power over Bitcoin as any central bank does over state fiat.

2. A fork of the most popular client with what we shall call a war miner module (extra credit for spotting the gaming reference) would quickly become popular with all those people who invested in ASIC hardware, but ended up  out of pocket as mining difficulty moved ahead of them.

3. There seems to be a foolish assumption that nobody would bother exploiting this systemic flaw in Bitcoin because to do so would destroy the very thing they would be investing in exploiting. Alas gentlemen, you shall be hoist be your own petard. For all the talk of a brave new world of cryptocurrency, free from the ruinous short-termism of state fiat, what you have is a community whose engagement with Bitcoin is entirely speculative in nature. It's all about riding the bubble and cashing out before it explodes, very few people seem truly committed to Bitcoin as a currency, rather a means to acquire more of the sate fiat they claim to detest. You've collectively recreated the very worst excesses of the Wall St. Mafia, and as a consequence there are plenty in the Bitcoin community who will seek to exploit this core vulnerability for profit.

The greed that created the bubble in Bitcoin will burn it to the ground just as quickly.
Oh Revans. You may have just outsmarted yourself. Now that you've rid yourself of all bitcoin and have no business here except your own, what is your next chapter in life?

Sure he could probably return 250btc without a sweat now, but I believe the main thing keeping him from returning anything is it would be somewhat akin to admission of guilt, even though many eyes already see it that way. If he does return the coins though, it would at least be a step forward for some in the crypto-community to begin healing from past grievances.

Either way, the longer he stays in the crypto-community through his exchange, microcash or any other ideas he comes up with, the chances of his identity being revealed increases. The question is, how much backlash will he get when that finally happens?

RS, you'll probably end up reading this at some point. Return the bitcoin. It'll be a breath of fresh air to make good on your debts and likely help your creative juices flow.

BTW, do you see govt leaders working with the bitcoin community to "build a better bitcoin" while keeping the current distribution in place? I imagine govt would want to "reserve the right" to issue currency still... No?

I know Im bringing up an old thread, but I wanted to avoid a rehash of this topic by creating a new thread.
Anyways, Im tryin to come up w/ an extremely catchy slogan for a car window sticker.
Many of the ones in the OP are great and they are all in for consideration.

The one Ive come up w/ thus far is "Bitcoin, cuz banks suck!"

Im looking for something that would grab the average joes attention immediately, yet encompass bitcoin at the same time and from that create genuine curiosity.

Let me know what you guys think or if can come up w/ additional ones that would be appropriate for car window sticker. Thanks!
Not sure if you're still looking for one but I thought of this the other day.

Once you understand bitcoin, you get it.

Not too flashy, but might get their gears turnin'.
