In fact I've done (following steps on this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sc5qFEIMYTs&feature=youtu.be) but as I've said I haven't achieved very good results... could you upload your pulse vbios to see exactly what have you changed?

Thank you again

I can't. If I remember correctly I got rx 570 pulse. So vbios will be different.

What does it mean you haven't achieved very good results. Can you see differance in power drain from the wall?

No, this is the problem, I can't see difference in power drain from wall, I've done following tests on vrom:

- added offset using instructions on the youtube link I've mentioned before (and trying different values: -100mv, -150mv)
- tried to change values on dpm state 0 (the rest of the rom values seems references instead voltages, so I thought that changing voltage for dpm state 0 and specifying this state on SMOS oc settings it will work). I've also changed voltages on memory dpm states (same value than on gpu dpm state 0)
- tried to change tdp values

Usually there is no change on power drain (from wall), and when there is usually the change is worse than the original. My (bad) numbers are:
- rx580 x 4 8g (2 pulse and 2 nitro se), with 3 usb risers and 1 connected directly to MB, 850W corsair PSU
- mining monero 835W from wall (~3000h/s) oc values 1275/2250 dpm state 2 (which is the one I'm using right now)
- mining ethereum 1120W from wall (without dag fix, with dag fix 1500W from wall) oc values 1175/2250 dpm state 2

Which oc settings are you using on SMOS?

If you don't see a change of power drain from the well it simple means the offset isn't done properly (there is probably different voltage controler, so it must be done differently). Dpm stage won't do anything. The only way to go is with offset.

Two additional questions:
- how to know which voltage controller does each card have?
- where to find information about offset vbios mod for each kind of voltage controller?

Thanks again

For RX580 GPU I recommend core 1150 and mem 2200 for SMOS. Powerstage will not help a lot to reduce power drawn from the wall. I was using powerstage 4 (default) but power drawn from the wall (7x RX580) was too high for me (1350W) and not acceptable. As long as no undervolting implemented in SMOS I will use ethOS (can undervolt my rig and have 950W from the wall).

Could you explain a little how have you undervolted your rx580 using ethos? directly in miners using specific params? some os command?

Could you give us some clue about what "well done offset" means? I suppose you mean to change voltages on rom, but I've done a lot of tests (even including a new offset and changing the entire voltage table) and I haven't achieved very good results... I'm using rx 580 8g (two pulse and two nitro se)

Thank you in advance

You must manually add offset to the vbios and then play with it. Every card is different. I do have also Sapphire Pulse, and those are fast but power hungry. Some GPUs will take -150 mV and be perfectly stable, others won't run with as low as 25 mV.

oh, this new dag fix it is really works?
does it have same problems with undervolting? or it is fixed here?

i was try the previous version at 3 Sept, and it give me a lot of watts in plus...
can some body tell me who, tested it already?

Yes the dag fix works. About undervolting and power usage. Typically it is around 20 watts more per GPU (if you got well done offset). With no offset power drain is huge.

Ubuntu 17.04, RX 470 Strix 4GB, 4.11.0-kfd-compute-rocm-rel-1.6-148 kernel made no difference.
Din't you forget to add 'amdgpu.vm_fragment_size=9'? Without that module option the hashrate will be the same.

As for me, rocm kernel works as expected. Except it does not downvolt cards. I tried SMOS with original kernel and rocm. With original it can decrease power consumption, but has low hashrate. With rocm kernel the hashrate is higher, but DPM state changes do nothing, consumption is always high.

How to know voltage associated with each DPM state in SMOS?  (or... is there a linux command working on SMOS with rx580 cards in order to know current voltages?)

Thank you in advance

waiting too... for dag-fix in SMOS  Undecided

-10% MH/S actualy!!!
As now there is no universal fix and it wont be implemented automatically becasue of many problems that can cause.
If you want please use this image and try booting it with youtr rig. Its the only solution for now.
When AMD will release new drivers then i could implement probably fix as optional update.
Anyway i wont push this update to everyones rig becasue it would be destructive.
http://download.simplemining.net/simpleminer-RX-v1118_dagfix_computekernel.img.zip

thank you Smiley I will have a try on this new version  Wink

Working well ! But with an increase of Watts Sad

before the Fix I had 106MHs for 680W on wall (4 x RX 580)
with this fix I had 119MHS for 812W on wall

I have a similar problem, in fact it's worse in my case: before fix 1160W (also 4x rx 580 with bios mod, only mem straps) and after fix 1450W.

Someone could give me a clue about possible problems on my rig? I don't understand how power consumption at wall could be so different, specially using same os and being linux, which makes nearly impossible to undervolt these cards. I don't understand neither how a 850W PSU can handle these power consumptions...

It works but, as I've said on SMOS thread, using roc kernel and changing boot parameter makes power consumption goes from 1150W to 1550W (on the wall, at least on my rx580 rig). Have you checked your power consumption after this change?

I use roc kernel on smos and consume it is the same, maybe you changed power step (consume is setup at level of bios of gpu, i have steps from 2 to 7 to my target voltage), check them on console.

I've followed these steps:

wget -qO - http://repo.radeon.com/rocm/apt/debian/rocm.gpg.key | sudo apt-key add -
sudo sh -c 'echo deb [arch=amd64] http://repo.radeon.com/rocm/apt/debian/ xenial main > /etc/apt/sources.list.d/rocm.list'
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install rocm

#edit grub
sudo nano  /etc/default/grub
#2MB fragments for Ellesmere are enabled with a grub option:
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="amdgpu.vm_fragment_size=9"

sudo update-grub
sudo reboot

And I haven't changed bios, oc parameters,... So, I have a few questions:
- how to check these power steps on linux console?
- how to change them?
- my power consumption at wall were too high also before change (4x rx580 @ 1150W at wall) with smos (oc 1175-2250 dpm state 2). what about yours?

Thank you in advance

Hi,

Using roc kernel and changing boot parameter it works (I mean each rx580 goes from ~27.9MHs to ~31MHs) but, at least in my system, it goes from ~1150W to 1550W (on the wall). Have you checked your power consumption after this change?

--no-submit-stale --kernel cryptonight -o stratum+tcp://pool.supportxmr.com:7777 -u -p $rigName: --rawintensity 1008 -w 8 --text-only

for sgminer-gm-5.5.5

Thanks, it works like a charm but... someone knows which are the best oc settings for mining XMR (amd rx580 cards)?

--rawintensity 1008 -w 8

is the best settings

since XMR consumes up to 30% less power than ETH, 20% lower than ZEC --  I usually crank up the OC juice for the cards, esp if you have R9 GPUs.

But... what about cclock and mclock? I mean oc settings on smos... I have 1175/2250 which are my ETH settings, but maybe there are other settings which performs better on XMR

It seems related with miner (claymore 9.Cool or with mining ETH (I've tested mining XMR with anoter miner and it takes 820W from wall all system). I use linux distros usually (I've only tested w10 to compare with) but I'll test your solution.

Problem with power consumption on rx580 rig
by
cococo42
on 26/08/2017, 19:08:38 UTC
Hi,

I have a rig with 4 rx580 (2 pulse and 2 nitro se) with modded bios (changed memory straps) and I've tested different OS (smos, ethos, w10) with different settings (with overclock, undervolt,...) but the power at wall is too high (about 1500W on w10, 1400W on ethos and 1150W on smos). PSU is a corsair 850 (80 plus bronze), so:

- I don't know which is the problem, could be the PSU? the power monitoring gadget (it's a tplink hs110 smart plug)?

Thank you in advance
