Re: Taking Profits on Altcoins Strategy

I know these are a lot of questions but any advice is greatly appreciated, this forum has been extremely helpful for a noob that has been in the space for about 4 months now. Thanks!

I will try to help you.

I think the main problem with your strategy is that you have already traced what will happen in the next few months:
Altcoin season, then you take profits in USD, then it comes a bear market, you will put in blockfi.....

You need to consider different scenarios, as we don't know if we are even going to have an altseason like before, or even a so hard bear market. Are you ready for a different scenario like a Bitcoin bull run and altcoins losing even more value?

1. When I start to take profits from my altcoins do I just sell them on the exchange for dollars and then buy stablecoins with that? Or do I somehow trade the alts for stables? Does is matter since selling or trading them are taxed for capital gains regardless?
Doesn't make a difference. But you can take your profits in bitcoin. I believe that you have profit in altcoins only when you have profit in altcoin x BTc ratio.

Quote
2. Once I take the profits in stablecoins, is putting them on something like Blockfi to gain interest the best thing to do while I wait for another dip to possibly reinvest them?

I think it is too risk to put them in any lending plataform. You will gain 5-10% per year... that is very little in comparinson to 1000% gains bitcoin can still have in the next years, and you risk losing it all.

Quote
3. Once the bull run is over I'm most likely going to keep all my bitcoin and probably most of my Ethereum. I'll sell most of my alts for stablecoins but keep small bags of the ones I want to keep through the bear market. Is this a sound strategy?

Certainly. Bitcoin has better perfomance in long term compared to altcoins (in general, few random exceptions). I would consider keeping a hug amount  of bitcoin now, at least 50%. Even in a bull market, as altcoins usually lose in AltcoinXBTC ratio in long term.

Quote
4. During the bear market is taking a cash loan using my crypto as collateral (BTC and ETH) a good way to defer capital gains taxes? Won't I have to pay these taxes eventually? I know there are drawbacks to this strategy but it seems like a lot of experienced people do this.

5. After the bull run should I just put my stablecoins in something like Blockfi during the bear market? Or is cashing out to dollars and investing in something like real estate a good way to defer capital gains taxes?

It depends on your country regulations and laws. In Brazil you don't need to pay taxes if you sell less than 5k USD per month. Additionally, if you are just holding in the bear market you don't have to pay any tax.

Dont worry about taxes in the bear market, just try to survive.

In the Philippines  where I belong I can see that not all of us here know about bitcoin and on how it was going to be more fun and challenging to earned bitcoin. But the fact is even not all of us is not knowing of crypto but we are trying to teach to everybody because bitcoin and altcoin is the best to earn of it..

What do you think can be done to counter this ill manner behaviors that has been painting cryptocurency bad?
As of now we can't deny how scammer really spread in bounty that's why we should more alert and be good at all the time because this is the reason that our profits will grow.. More research for our own good and be smart at all the time.

Re: Number of altcoins keep increasing!

Since the blockchain was an open source platform and there have been lots of people were creating and building their own blockchains and the introduction of the smartcontract was making it much more easier to create a new token or security token. Some people have complained about this but this can't be prevented because they were creating it with their own intention.
As long as you nor he was choosing the major coin and it must not be a problem.

Agree, the top coins or those in the top 10 of the list are more likely to have lower volatility and less risk than newly released coins. However, even though you have bought a major coin, it still does not rule out the possibility that you will lose too.

What I hate about the phenomenon of increasing the number of altcoins every day is that developers don't really have a strong desire to compete with other coins in a sporting manner. They too expect the coin to go viral and get high gains. This is one of the desperate traits of a fake developer who wants to get rich instantly.

Yes, many of coins was launched in ICO but mostly of them are disappear in just a few time. I hope that in your experience or you look below in plinth there will be more legit coin in order us to be more profitable

Your strategy is complicated. My suggestion is to stick to a simple strategy: buy bitcoins and hold them for the long term.

As for the tax questions, As a citizen or resident of the U.S., you must pay taxes any time you convert a coin to dollars or another coin. There are no tricks that can avoid it or delay it.
Yeah you're right mate, buying bitcoin is the most essential right now especially when you are wiser enough and become more patient for all our decision making. And for the US taxes we don't care if we pay taxes as long as we have a huge income in crypto currency.

Mate may I hear your voice if Binomo is scam or not?
For me they look like Binance especially for their personal Verification. But I want to hear your opinion about this.

I don't see that Binomo is a scam, in fact I agree with your view that Binomo looks like Binance, when we try to find information outside there is no reason that Binomo is a scam.

In fact, many people predict that Binomo will have good value in the future, after I followed the number of posts or news related to Binomo, many people are optimistic about Binomo.

I haven't found this Binomo scam anywhere and hopefully what we discuss is true, many people have hope, in the future Binomo will be the right choice to invest both long term and short term.
I agree with you friend. Maybe they got wrong in terms of withdrawal because they limit on it everyday but the fact is you can withdraw easily but not a big amount. There's a limitation on it.

Why do I see legit coins with real utility and transparent, excellent devs not doing well but shitty meme coins just flying?
For me Altcoins is a transparent coin which even there's a big chances to drop it's price but more than that many of them is so promising right now.. I can see the most interesting way to hold an altcoin which I truly appreciate also the greatness of an altcoin.

Re: Monero: A good long-term investment?
by

on 06/08/2021, 15:29:42 UTC
Monero is one of the best (if not the best) privacy-oriented cryptocurrencies in the world. Anonymity is enforced by default, making sure your transactions are safe from prying eyes. It's no wonder why XMR is the top privacy coin in market cap. Competitors like DASH, Zcash, BEAM, and even Grin don't stand a chance against Monero's ever-growing user base and mainstream demand. Yet, non-privacy coins are faring better on the market with higher gains within such a short amount of time.

I'm wondering why hasn't Monero taken off yet? Do you think government regulations have affected Monero's ability to go higher in price? If not, then what could be the reason? Is Monero a good long-term investment? Or are there better choices on the market (besides Bitcoin and Ethereum)? Your input will be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Smiley
Actually It can depends on you if you want to hold a Montero or not.. But for me as long as there a big chances to grow its value much better that you hodl of it and wait for the best time.

There's no doubt that there's a higher risk involved investing in altcoin coupled with the fact that the success of the project is dicey, but not withstanding its important to know that investment in a successful altcoin could be much more lucrative and this goes with the fact that the higher the risk, the greater the reward.
In so many ways we can't predict who will be the best altcoin aside from ethereum. But the fact is all of them have a potential to explode and make it's value rising like a star.

Re: what happened to ethereum?

Ethereum fell in price as all other coins in the crypto market. The drop in its price is more significant - there is a reason for this. Through Ethereum all tokens issued in his network are traded. And many people sell tokens on ETH and then go to Fiat.
Ethereum is slowly falling due to the hype in market but still survive in this era. It could be more great if we're capable to wait with this coin because this is one of the best options to buy or more potential in the future exchange.
