Re: Bitmain's Released Antminer S9, World's First 16nm Miner Ready to Order

1st thought should be to Google 'convert watts to BTU'. Why does no one seem to know how to use search engines....
FWIW, BTU/hr=Watts x 3.4129

The CFM, fair question. Don't think there is any data on that. I believe the fans move 250CFM free-air but under load, pure guesswork. I'd ballpark it as around 150CFM
I didn't know figuring out BTU was as simple as plugging in the number of watts, I thought it was different for every machine. Some machines are less efficient so they put out more heat per watt, some are designed better than others so they put out less heat per watt, etc. was my line of logic.
The miner efficiency is irrelevant and only compares hash rate to power used, has nothing to do with heat load.

For any electric power heat source they are all 100% efficient. Power in = power out as heat.
Cooling is of course another matter as it involves work moving heat from one location to another, not creating heat. In that case efficiency does matter but only in the sense that it takes x amount of power turned into y amount of mechanical energy (with losses turned into heat) to move z amount of heat energy.

Hi, I just wanted to double check this and clarify that it is still correct to say that 100% of power in = heat out for the antminer.

See: https://physics.stackexchange.com/questions/132026/is-it-possible-for-an-electrical-device-to-generate-more-heat-than-another-using

According to that, a device that is less efficient at converting input power into light, motion, work etc... will generate more heat than a device that is better at converting power into motion, etc.

Given this, is it still correct to say in the case of the antminer that 100% power in = heat out?  (or something close like 95% power in = heat out since i would  guess the device would not be 100% efficient at converting power into heat).

My best guess is given that there are no moving parts (except for low wattage fans) on the antminer, that probably close to 100% power in would equal heat out...?

Thanks for your thoughts!

Re: any HVAC workers know what CFM or BTU antminer s7 puts out?

I'm trying to build ducting to get heat from 4 s7s out of the basement through the exhaust for the dryer and want to know if it's big enough or needs to be widened? Should the exhaust have it's own fans pulling air?

1 watt = about 3.4 btu

so 1000 watts = 3400 btu

200 watts = 680 btu

thus  the s-7 is close to a 4000btu heater

the cfm is about 200 at 4000 rpm fan speed

Does all the 1000W get converted to heat?  I had an HVAC guy mention to me that even though the unit takes 1000W, if the antminer is 80% efficient (for example), then only 200W is released as heat.

I'm not clear on efficiency of the power useage for the antminer, nor how much of the 1000W actually is converted into heat.

Any ideas?

haha thanks for replying!

I wasn't thinking about s7, but just antminer's in general.

With regard to room temperatures, what you stuck a big hose like this one onto the exhaust so that the exhaust air goes directly outside: https://www.lowes.com/pd/IMPERIAL-12-in-x-300-in-Insulated-Polyester-Flexible-Duct/50401798

Then the intake air is at 35C.  Would that be OK?

When you guys are talking about temperature, youre talking about the temp of the circuits?  Is that the hottest temp anywhere on the unit?

What is the ideal room temperature?

Thanks

I believe 1 and max of 2 team members left, but they were already phasing out over the past couple of months.  I expect the project to go on as always.

I agree.  There is too much bitching about the devs.  If you don't like the coin, you can sell and move on.

AND there is always someone from the team in Cloak Chat and Telegram.

hi all,  I only recently came across cloak and became interested in it because of its privacy features.  I want to invest in it because of this.

In doing some research, I came across this rich list: https://explorer.cloakcoin.com/richlist

This is usually a sign that the transactions on the coin are not kept private.

Can anyone comment on this and explain how this is possible?

Thanks!
