Avalon 4.1 gets stuck at 200 gh/s

Machine: Avalon 4.1.

Issue: This machine is sometimes able to run at the advertised speed (~1100 gh/s). Other times when cgminer starts, it runs at either 200 gh/s or 0 gh/s. But this appears to be setup and/or pool dependent.

Setup: Running via a raspberry pi with openwrt. No AUC. Instead, connected directly to the pi headers with command line option --avalon4-iic-detect.

Works: Previously, when using an AUC connection and connected to a Linux machine running cgminer built with --enable-avalon4. The machine worked at full speed. But in order to get this, it's necessary to restart cgminer about 10 times. With 9/10 tries, the machine runs at 200 gh/s, or worse, at 0 gh/s. Another variation is that during this setup, the machine would only be able to mine at full speed when connected to eligius pool (and that is after restarting cgminer about 10 times). F2pool or slushpool would not ever go above 200 gh/s.

Here is the log (https://pastebin.com/embed_js/MiVCQDSj) from running the command:

cgminer --lowmem --avalon4-fan 20 -o stratum+tcp://stratum.mining.eligius.st:3334 -O :anything  --avalon4-iic-detect --avalon4-freq 420:390:360 -l 1 --avalon4-voltage 7625 -D --verbose 2>output.log

Any help is greatly appreciated!  Grin

many other pools large and small offer solo mining if you dare or have boatloads of hash power... just keep an eye on the fee.

I've posted this for the benifit of those who want to distribute their hashpower broadly across the network without losing a big chunk of
their A22

i will try to complete this list as time allows me.. good luck to you all
a dash of hash in the smaller pools could be good also

Nice list ~ Thanks  Wink

Re: Question on Mining with Avalon 6 miners - AUC & cord

Yes, there are a couple of postings in the forum on how to do this. Basically you attach sda and scl to the appropriate pins on the Pi, ensure ground is attached, then fire up cgminer with some sort of option to find the Avalon and go.

If people really need help I can find it, but search should be your friend on this one.

Here are the instructions how to do it without the AUC2.

I got there in the end with my avalon 6. It’s runing direct from the Pi 3 board.

Would really like to know how you managed this.  Huh

Yes, for sure. Is it possible to connect RPi headers using cables (such as https://www.amazon.es/gp/product/B01NGTXASZ or https://www.ebay.com/itm/Dupont-Jumper-Wire-Cable-Female-Male-20cm-20pcs-for-Arduino/222709027859) so as to avoid solder?

The circuits using that data cable are not capable of sending information more than a few feet.

Avalon4-Avalon6 50-foot interconnect cable

Having some trouble figuring out how to search for this. The cable is the four-pin interconnect cable for daisy-chaining Avalon4 and/or Avalon6 (not sure about Avalon7). The idea is to daisy-chain two miners between rooms to enable heat and noise reduction, as well as balance out electricity dispersion. At least a 50-foot cable would be preferable.

Eligius-Ra to Eligius-Hu Transition

Greetings Eligius Miners,
...

TL;DR Version:  Eligius-Ra (CPPSRB) has been discontinued and a final payout made.  Eligius-Hu is online (new reward system based on pure PPLNS wo/shifts) and all mining is towards this system now.  New web-based features (stats, share market) launching over the next week.

Great work, wk!   Smiley Grin Cheesy  Cool

There shouldn't be any benefit to pool hopping with CPPSRB, so I'd stick to Eligius.

Okay, thanks.

Could it simply be that you've bought it secondhand and it's been run to death and have the chips are dead?

That would be unfortunate, haha  Lips sealed

Will try the rpi asap then...

Could this be because it is being run from the USB port of a desktop machine and not through either of the router or RaspPI interfaces?

The screen shot shows under 1 minute.  Run for about two hours to see your rate not under 1 minute

Yes thought someone might mention this. That was a bad screenshot. It does not change after running for any indefinite period of time.

For example here is running overnight from from 00:52 to 10:08:

sudo ./cgminer --avalon4-fan 10 --avalon4-freq 420 --avalon4-voltage 7625 -o stratum.f2pool.com:333 -u {user} -p {pass}

The port number should be 3333, not 333.

Oh yes good catch. Just updated the original post to match this.  Wink
Also just updated the image so that it shows up...

avalon4: max gh/s not going above ~200 gh/s
by

Hello,
Just purchased an avalon4. Using with a 1000w HP psu. The psu is able to power an antminer s5 just fine with speeds up to 1100gh/s. But cgminer does not show the avalon4 miner going above ~200 gh/s. This is regardless of what frequency, fan speed, or voltage is supplied via the command line. Is there a cgminer option maybe under pool settings that needs adjustment? What else could be the issue here?

Started via:
Code:
sudo ./cgminer --avalon4-fan 10 --avalon4-freq 420 --avalon4-voltage 7625 -o stratum.f2pool.com:3333 -u {user} -p {pass}

Edit: Running from a desktop machine on Linux, plugged into the USB. Cgminer version is:
Code:
$sudo ./cgminer --version
>cgminer 4.9.2

Edit: Just want to also mention that there are two avalon4 miners and both produce the same result. They are not running simultaneously. That is, neither machine goes about ~200gh/s when run individually.

Here is cgminer running...

Edit: Remove old image that shows only two minutes running status... http://i.imgur.com/btvT1Vk.png

$1.99 for 10pcs - 10mm Adhesive Aluminum Heatsink For RAM Memory IC Chips Cooling 10x10x10mm
http://www.ebay.com/itm/321705680592

Wow great details. Good images. Ebay link still exists.

A few quick questions.

1) Per an article on heat dissipation and metals it notes that copper is about 2x the conductivity of aluminum. See: https://www.metalsupermarkets.com/which-metals-conduct-heat-best/. Do you know of any copper heatsinks that are similar in size, that is, 10x10x10mm.

2) Do you know of any heatsinks that are taller, that is, 10x10x100mm? And do you think this would this cool even better than 10x10x10mm?

3) Do you recommend 10x10x1mm thermal pads as well? For example, this product (100Pc 10x10x1mm Silicon Chip Thermal Pad Heatsink Conductive Insulation Paste HU) http://www.ebay.com/itm/100Pc-10x10x1mm-Silicon-Chip-Thermal-Pad-Heatsink-Conductive-Insulation-Paste-HU-/221949052694?hash=item33ad31c716:g:qwsAAOSwwE5WUzNb
