Re: [Work in progess] Burnins Avalon Chip to mining board service

I would think this 10/20/100 chips per board thing is all up in the air until Avalon release the data.

From what i can work out, Burnin's original design follows Avalon's own ASIC system (10 chips per board, 32 boards per system) - which is no doubt why he chose the design, as it's a fairly safe bet it's going to be straight forward to design and build. When you start adding X chips per board no doubt it gets tricky with controlling them and powering them, and you will enter into an unknown situation.  By doing 10 chips on 32 max, he's much more likely to have a working product and ship within the quickest possible time.

See https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Avalon  - (10 chips per board, 32 boards max in a system)

Question for people who run 5 or 6 GPUs per mobo

Hi,

I'm running 4 x 7950's at the moment on a 1250w OCZ PSU and 4 passive risers.

I'm interested to hear from people who are actually running 5 or 6 GPU 7xxx setups at the moment.

1) What wattage / make PSU are you using?

2) Are you using a powered riser?

What i'm wanting to know is can i get a 5th card going with no extra cost of a powered riser or higher gpu.  Everyone says you need this and that - but i'm interested to see what people are actually running at the moment.

Thanks.

Fixed it, not sure how specifically, made sure i had the latest sdk and flashed to the latest bios, then rebooted.  All cards doing 500MH/s now.

4th GPU Not Mining - GUIMiner

Hi,

I think i've read about this problem before but i can't find any info on it (Searched google and this forum)

I have 4 x Gigabyte 7950's, just set up an hour ago, installed windows, and the 13.4 drivers.  I will use cgminer in the end, but using GUIMiner for now just to get it going.

3 cards are doing fine - 500MH/s, but the 4th isn't doing anything - it won't accept shares.

Am i missing something obvious?

Cheers.

4 x Radeon 7950 Spec - Advice Needed
by

Hi,

I need some solid advice on a few items in my spec, as i'm getting mixed opinions on several factors, so i need someone with a similar setup to comment if possible.

**** This is for LTC mining.

Motherboard: Gigabyte 990FXA-UD3
CPU: AMD Bulldozer FX-4 Quad Core 4100 Black Edition 3.60Ghz
Memory: 8GB DDR3
GPU: 4 x Gigabyte ATi Radeon HD 7950
PSU: OCZ ZX Series 1250W '80 Plus Gold' Modular Power Supply
Case: DIY Open frame design with some extra fans.

1) I've been told the cpu is too much, and i can get away with a Sempron - the last thing i want to do is limit the system due to lack of cpu power.

2) Do i need active PCIe risers?  The board is a 5 slot pcie 16x, i'm only going to be using 4.  Can i get away with just cheap standard riser cables?

Thanks,

Any idea on the pcie extenders, that's the only thing i'm unsure about now.

I think the RAM is a bit overkill for the system.

I was under the impression scrypt was a bit more memory intensive?

LTC Mining Spec - Ready to order but need help with a couple of things.

Hi,

I'm ready to order my 4GPU LTC miner. I have a couple of questions as i don't want to get this wrong.

The spec is as follows:

Motherboard: Gigabyte 990FXA-UD3
CPU: AMD Bulldozer FX-4 Quad Core 4100 Black Edition 3.60Ghz
Memory: 8GB DDR3
GPU: 4 x Gigabyte ATi Radeon HD 7950
PSU: OCZ ZX Series 1250W '80 Plus Gold' Modular Power Supply
Case: DIY Open frame design with some extra fans.

Any advice / improvements on the above spec welcome.

But my main question is about PCIe Risers.  I will need risers/cables to separate the cards out, but what type? Do they HAVE to be active? Do they have to be any particular type.  Or will this do? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PCI-E-Extender-Extension-Cable-Express-16X-Riser-Card-/390578987193?pt=UK_Computing_CablesConnectors_RL&hash=item5af05260b9

Thanks.

True better take max 4 gpu. More is ineffective. I also throw some gpu to ltc Smiley

Ok, well i guess i can do 2 x 4 systems - keep things simple.

What sort of GPU and PSUs do you use?  I take it for a 4x system i'm wanting a 1200watt good brand?  Also do you need an active riser for the 4th? OR can you get away with 4 passive risers?

LTC Mining - 6 GPUs?

Until ASICs are a bit more available for BTC i'm thinking i'm going to go for LTC with GPUs for now.  I do have the option of free power at work (providing the machines are quiet enough)

Is it possible to get 6 GPU's in one rig?  I'm thinking 6 x Gigabyte 7950's  on a Gigabyte Motherboard which has 5 x 16X PCIE and 1 x 1X PCIE?  Obviously using passive extenders to seperate the cards, and one converter to 1x to 16x?  And a big ass PSU.

So what prevents somebody from spamming a massive thread like this 5 times doing:

+1

and then just leaving their account logged in for 4 hours while they sleep or something?

considering i had my pointless posts from last night deleted - i'm guessing a mod does  Sad

Haha me too.  Oops Smiley

Thanks for that, great post / info.

It would appear that ASIC's are the way to go from, unless i can figure out free power and cooling Cheesy.  However from what i've read they are seriously hard to come by? BFL haven't shipped any despite a lot of promises (that's the impression i get anyway), and the Avalon's are sold out?

Thanks for the info.  Do you have any suggested pools or pool types for between the 50-100GH/s setup?  I'm planning on building a largish rig  soon Smiley

...By which you mean "I have a pre-order in on some ASIC miners", right?  I mean, you couldn't possibly think it was a good idea to build a large GPU farm... right?

Any of the pools that support GBT will do fine.  Take a look at this list here: https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Comparison_of_mining_pools

I'm still weighing up options.  It's not that unrealistic is it? 4 newish GPU's per machine, 500MH/s each GPU. You're only taling 10 or 15 machines. Plus it has the benefit of switching to LTC unlike ASIC?

Hi,

I have a couple of related questions on this as i was wondering the same thing:

1) At what point is it better to go Solo mining? Say you had 50GH/s or 100GH/z - is it still best to stick to a pool?  If so what types / ones for that sort of power?

2) Are those mining calculators quite accurate on the days to find a block and the payout?

Thanks,

Elliot
1) At whatever point you feel comfortable, Personally i wouldn't solo mine with less than 500GH/s (...so i don't solo mine, lol) at current difficulty

2) the calculators show you the average time based on current difficulty and 50% luck... luckier and you will find a block quicker, unluckier it will take longer.

Thanks for the info.  Do you have any suggested pools or pool types for between the 50-100GH/s setup?  I'm planning on building a largish rig  soon Smiley
