Hello

I might be missing something pretty obvious but I can't seem to be able to post to this thread https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1926353 (started by myself).

When I do the system claims that I have already posted my message - yet it does not appear.

Thanks for any help / suggestion

Help with colored coins
by

Hello

One one my acquaintance has recently passed away and being the (relatively) tech savvy in his entourage I have taken upon helping in collecting his digital assets (we are fortunate enough that he took all appropriate measure to document his virtual wealth).

I have managed to consolidate his various wallets and am in progress of transferring them into "fiat" currency (this opens by itself some interesting issues with the estate, especially with the recent volatility in BTC... but that's a different topic).

My question is about colored coins he had purchased and stored in a coinprism wallet. I have gone through some documentation (https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Colored_Coins) about the subject and my understanding is that these coins are "simply" BTC with some extra information attached to them. Hence my obvious question is: is there any way to "uncolor" them ? Or are they now part of a different blockchain ?

I have tried to reach out to the https://www.coinprism.com/ support but it would seem that the whole operation is more or less derelict.

Any info / pointer would be much appreciated !

LR was around for quite some years - the US indictments quite recent.

Clearly amateurs when compared to HSBC, Barclays or Wachovia Bank...

This is what I am seeing right now:

Down for Maintenance

Bitcoin-Central.net is temporarily down for maintenance.

We have been compromised, please do not send any funds to your wallet.

A few hundred BTC have been stolen, but the amount is small enough for us to cover it fully.

Please do not call, do not e-mail. We will give you additionnal [sic] information ASAP.

This is turning into a sad joke  Angry

Connected to network but no synching any more

Hi

Having a problem with my wallet all the sudden (used to work fine over the past few weeks) using QT Client v 0.8.1 which doesn't synch anymore.

It reports a backlog of approx. 600 blocks (growing) and just sits there "synchronizing" but nothing appears to happen for the last 24h. The client reports 8 connections to the network.

Any suggestion / pointer most welcome !

Bit disappointed that these restriction have been put in retroactively (I joined before they where put in place and did enter some posts). A private message would have been in order to warn of this new policy

I still find it a bit ridiculous not to have the right to post in threads I have contributed to in the past, not having been warned (directly) of those new restrictions and not having a reference FAQ that would spell out these rules... Anyway I hope I will eventually get to the "threshold"

Any pointer most welcome...

Re: Complete newbeee question - buying BTC with Paypal

The problem with paypal is that paypal will initiate a chargeback, and since bitcoins are irreversible, the thief ends up with both paypal USD and bitcoins.

Interresting - thanks for the clarification and link Smiley

Complete newbeee question - buying BTC with Paypal
by

Hello

I might be a little thick but I have just spent 2 hours trying to find a way to buy bitcoins with my PayPal account. I gone to various sites but I have yet to find a good place (i.e. a working internet site... most were non functional, or do not accept Paypal) that would allow me to do this.

Any pointer most welcome

Regards

Re: BitCoin and money laundering

I think it is a valid concern. BitCoin can been seen as cash (anonymous) and is much more convenient to transact with... I'm pretty sure this will be one of the major argument used as soon as the governments will wake up. We better be ready with strong responses.

Am I correct that there is currently no way to change from port 8333 and that this will possibly never be a feature ?
