Re: Cardano

Cardano is a very long term investment. Check this out: https://www.cryptomiso.com/. It's a list of cryptocurrencies ranked by GitHub commits. This list is not perfect as it only shows central GitHub commits, however it is an indication of development going on inside.

thanks for link, and yeah, you are right GitHub commits is a good measure of team performance efficiency. I was surprised that ADA is surpassed by Komodo in this. Nevertheless the second place is  quite decent.

Measuring and ranking by commits is a rather useless metric. You can always inflate your commits as well.

I want to know what you guys think  Huh Is $900 realistic? I bought at $900 so I'm hoping I just break even. I don't really think it will hit back to $1000 because of the short pumps and whales taking profit repeating.

1 ETH will be worth 1 ETH. If you believe in the tech than it doesn't really matter if it is $900 in 2019. Once scaling is implemented we can expect Ethereum to be worth more than it is now.

Re: IOTA Price Prediction 2018
by

on 18/03/2018, 05:58:35 UTC
IOTA is another Ethereum. This blockchain is also designed and developed for adoption of token creation for the company. As this coin is in the infant stage in the cryptocurrency market and Ethereum has demanded more so IOTA has some less demand now. But, after a year it must draw the attention of more company for creating the token on its blockchain. And, price also go up very sharply.

Anyone that believes in IOTA have not read any of the technical due diligence critiques on the project. It is beyond a moonshot, it is pretty much playing the lottery.

Using balanced ternary is the most amateur decision the team has made. All new chips will be required just because of this. Do you think an entire industry will change just because of IOTA?

This year seems like it may shape up to be a privacy coin year. That being said: NAV and SUMO seem interesting at the moment.

These don't quite qualify for the newer ICO you are looking for, but they are not too far off.

NAV has Valence right around the corner, and it seems it will work similarly to VEN with payouts. AdApps may also be huge in the future, and this would be one of the strong plays in that regard.

SUMO is a far greater risk and is simply a fork of Monero, though there are some interesting benefits for it: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1905086.0

It's easy to point out massive merit rewards but everyone should keep in mind when singling them out and accusing them outright that this is a group-think, witch-hunt mentality.

It is also quite as possible for someone with several accounts to give someone else a huge merit reward simply because they want negative action taken against that person.

I am not saying this is happening here, but everyone should keep this in mind when posting like this.

Re: Newbies are struggling to level up their account
by

The newbies, especially the ones who wanted to increase their rank are struggling with the limitations that some are spending money to buy copper.
Patience and perseverance is the key to increase your level. Every achievement that comes from hard work is sweeter than those things you had easy. It is so fulfilling that you started from the bottom and you are slowly going up to the top. No person can become adult immediately  no matter how much they want it because there are certain things we learn while we grow up and priceless experiences. We must learn to take things slowly, limitations are made because it gives us lessons that everything does not come unlimited. Smiley

If you want to post images you might as well buy copper as a newbie/jr. member. It is not expensive and should help BCT with hosting costs.

Re: Who has earned enough Merit to Rank Up beyond "member"?
by
etherflip
on 19/02/2018, 19:18:21 UTC
Right now it probably doesn't matter what the statistics are on leveling up beyond "member" for the community. What will be more important, is taking a general span of time (let's give the merit system 3-6 months), then analyze the overall forum quality, and if leveling up has actually occurred like it should have for strong contributions.

After that we can take all these Meta suggestions and see how to improve this system. We are after all only on the first release of this feature.

Re: Coinbase Vault review?
by
etherflip
on 19/02/2018, 19:14:50 UTC
I have a small amount of BTC and LTC in Coinbase vault, since it is insured I am thinking that this is a moderately safe way to store for long term.

Of course it is best to own your private keys and store offline. But this is like one of those, don't keep all your eggs in one basket ideas.

If I had a million dollars in Crypto would I feel safe with them in the Vault?  I am thinking so.  I have heard a bunch of negative sentiment towards Coinbase, but I have only had positive experiences.  I do believe that they charge to high of fees.

I am continually dollar cost averaging into BTC/LTC and feel safe enough with some of those funds in the Vault.

What are your experiences?

https://www.coinbase.com/vault?locale=en-US#features

https://support.coinbase.com/customer/en/portal/articles/1662379-how-is-coinbase-insured

There has been a lot of debate on their level of insurance on crypto. It seems they are in fact insured up to the standard $250k that other FDIC insured institutions are for their USD - as well as crypto positions you hold. That being said, I would say it is highly safe up to that amount, but once you get above that dollar amount, please consider diversifying your accounts.

Are AdApps the future?
by
etherflip
on 19/02/2018, 19:11:36 UTC
After doing a bit of research on NAV - it seems AdApps could be the ultimate goal for the libertarian mindset. Ethereum and NEO don't have this anywhere on their roadmap, nor does it look possible at this point in time for either.

What other projects look promising that have AdApps on their radar?

What positives and negative do you see with AdApps?

Re: Newb To Newbs: Gaining Merit Fast!
by
etherflip
on 19/02/2018, 17:39:27 UTC
So you want to earn merit (as fast as possible!)

After a few days skulking the Meta section I realized a few important things:

#1 A huge portion of the Hero/Legendary crowd honestly care about the merit system. They are making it work, and they are more than happy to teach you.

Check out this awesome infographic by paxmao to get an overview of the system: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2834641.msg29065043#msg29065043

How Do You Feel About This New System??

#2 Many forum members have gone the extra-mile to statistically show you which topics/areas earn the most merit. Surprise! Grin top Bitcointalk members prefer to merit posts in the "Bitcoin" section...Go figure.

not receiving Merit? I don't care

If you have links to some topics I'm missing please post them here and I'll add them to my list! I'll keep editing it with new great info (especially statistical info) as I find it.

where's the guide to earn merits as fast as possible? you just compiled everything merit related that had good replies which can be seen from the meta's page 1-5. i was totally deluded by your title, you could've just said comments about these good posts.

He is trying to earn merit of course! Just like every other merit related post in Meta

Re: Market is RED reason》BTC is gaining
by
etherflip
on 18/02/2018, 17:13:23 UTC
I just read one thread about the red market "blaming" Vitalik Buterin.  I find that laughable.

The real reason is people are starting to bet on BTC again and selling alts even cheap.  It always go through this cycle before the alts really take off.  Some also use the opportunity to collect more alts later...sell now (high), buy later (low).  It can be a good way to play but very risky.  I used to do it but learned I don't have the nerve to be in that game.

Play it, or HODL...both are valid ways to go.  Just don't panic, bullish market is coming...BTC first then alts (may dip a little but) will follow. Smiley

Re: Merit Source Quotas
by
etherflip
on 18/02/2018, 17:09:06 UTC
This is a bad idea and the situation you compare it to (Police quotas) are equally as bad of an idea. I appreciate the intention behind it; you would like to see merit freely flowing to the posts you believe to be deserving of merit. However, merit quotas for the sources would change everything for the worse.

Currently there is no obligation for active you are, how much time you spend on the forum, how many posts you read or how you dish out your trust/merit. If we enacted a quota for merit sources, then it would be necessary that a merit source is active X amount of time per day, reading Y amount of posts and meriting Z amount of them. This would inevitably promote spamming beyond belief; if there are quotas and you can only find spam posts, you would inevitably be "forced" to give a spam-post a merit just to keep your merit source status and keep up with criteria.

It would serve to benefit those that don't deserve merit and it would put extra strain on merit sources, which would lead to them doing a worse job at distributing their merit, not a better job.

Out of 10 posts there will be a "best" post, but "best" will be subjective and the "best" out of those 10 could still be horrible and not worth a merit.

If you are on this forum and only find spam posts, then there are far deeper issues at play. Quotas would not make sense from a time perspective, just an amount perspective.

Merit Source Quotas
by
etherflip
on 18/02/2018, 16:52:00 UTC
I understand that Meta is flooded with Merit postings, but I believe I have found the one simple solution to solve everyones complaints: Merit Source Quotas.

If a merit source ultimately has to reach a quota, similar to police officers issuing tickets, the merit system will be a raging success. More merits will be passed around and post quality will increase just as it would without the quotas in place.

Why? You ask...

In a given set of 10 posts, there will inevitably be the best post. A merit source will then in effect, be forced to choose the best post out of several posts, instead of arbitrarily picking posts that meet their personal requirements. This leads to more merit being passed around, and users ultimately being awarded for posting the best posts - not just the posts that meet highly specific "quality" requirements.

There is no need for demerits and no need to adjust merit amount to level up.

The best help that i can give to you is advice. There are many things that i can give :
1. Learn english. This is an english forum so you should use good english to engage and make a communication between users.
2. Learn about cryptocurrency, mostly bitcoin. The forum name is bitcointtalk for a reason.
3. Dont ask for merits, just keep the good work and one day merits will come.
4. Be patience, success takes time.
5. Dont buy an account with higher rank, it will gives you nothing in the future if you got caught.
That is some advice from me, hope you can follow it and got something useful from it.

Your number 5 made me take a complete u turn. I was looking to buy now realized I would be living someone else's life. On a side note why does the forum allow selling of accounts?

The selling of accounts is not condoned - though preventing the selling of accounts cannot be done, so people will do it anyways. It's more an aspect of honor, would you feel good cheating the system?

Re: Merit "trading" - buying and selling Bitcointalk merit
by
etherflip
on 14/02/2018, 02:58:49 UTC

One way it seems they are using to prevent running out of merit is that they merit each other back and this way both parties increase in merit... I have seen a few threads were vigilant member of this forum are trying to track those people down and correlate the reciprocal meriting - often giving 50 merit points for posts that are by any standard not worth meriting at all.

These merits will ultimately run out, each time they do this they only get half back, eventually it will be at 0 and there will be nothing for them to trade.

Unless the person selling merit is a merit source.

Never too late, NEO has upside https://www.coingecko.com/en/price_charts/neo/usd
but the sleeping giant is most probably https://www.coingecko.com/en/price_charts/qtum/usd

This is a NEO thread so I would assume dropping a subtle hint at qtum being superior was a miscalculation. NEO, QTUM, and VEN are all striving for stronger Chinese support. If any of them gain some backing from China they will indeed be a sleeping giant. This includes NEO
