Sneak peak at the platform making Equity Token Offerings mainstream
by
existentialventures
on 01/12/2017, 14:58:36 UTC
As we well know, crypto still is far from mainstream use.

But one way of changing that is making it easy for companies to do ICOs – real, legal ICOs, however...

That's exactly what Neufund is doing.

Here's a sneak peak at what that looks like in practice: https://blog.neufund.org/sneak-peak-into-the-neufund-platform-22f046d4ff90

I'm clearly biased, but don't you think that an ICO where you get tokens AND get to keep your money under your control is better than a regular sale?

If you don't know what I'm talking about, check https://commit.neufund.org.

Didn't quite get... Where can I buy tokens?

You can find all the relevant information on how to receive tokens at this website: https://commit.neufund.org

Please note that you are not "buying tokens", but simply locking your ETH into a smart contract that holds your funds. Once the platform goes live early next year, all your funds will be available to you in your platform wallet for investments into other equity tokens from startups.

You can read a comparison of the ICBM (Initial Capital Building Mechanism) and ETO (Equity Token Offering) models with the usual ICO model here: https://blog.neufund.org/if-you-invest-in-app-tokens-you-may-be-killing-the-project-you-fund-1-6bd15b10f45e

Does Smb knows, whether this team has experience?

Well, let's take a look, shall we:

CEO: Zoe Adamovicz

Zoe Adamovicz is an experienced entrepreneur and occasional angel investor. She is passionate about building technology businesses that are impactful, positive and at the same time profitable and powerful. Prior to Neufund, Zoe founded Xyo, a company that re-imagines how people discover apps, Priori Data (app store intelligence), and Concise Software which provides software development and engineering services. She is also a mentor to the Gaza Sky Geeks, where she supports technology entrepreneurship in the challenging area of the Gaza Strip and helps introduce Blockchain. As an expert in technology entrepreneurship and venture capital, she has been following the blockchain space closely for several years. She decided to found Neufund when she realized the potential of blockchain for democratizing access to funding, and changing the VC game for good.

CTO: Marcin Rudolf

Marcin is a co-founder and CTO, and currently leads the technology development at Neufund. He has been tracking the development of blockchain technology for the past 6 years. Before joining Neufund, he led technology development at the app search engine Xyo. In addition, he has worked as a developer and team leader in projects involving messaging and telecommunication (Orange), cryptography and mobile devices (Jamba Music), insurance and government (Fiat, Hewlett-Packard).

LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/marcinrudolf/

Legal Architect: André Eggert

André Eggert is a partner at LACORE. He advises companies and entrepreneurs as well as investors. One of his core activities is the support of M&A and financing transactions. André has special knowledge in the areas of private equity financing and quasi-equity instruments. His focus is, moreover, on negotiating and drafting joint venture and cooperation agreements. He possesses relevant experience resulting from his involvement in a wide range of international transactions with parties from the Anglo-American legal system. Additionally, he possesses specific expertise in the technology and entertainment industries.

Re: If you had 15 Ether, where would you invest for the long term Today
by

My personal strategy is to hold 5-6 of the more well-known, long established coins like ETH, Dash, Zcash, Monero, BTC, and LTC.

Beyond that I'm only investing in projects where I know someone personally, or where I see that the token is not simply grafted onto a shit business plan. Especially if the token has value sources that are relatively stable, I will consider holding it.

Re: Why do you invest in ICOs?
by
existentialventures
on 07/11/2017, 21:33:34 UTC
Several reasons:

  • Because I value the profit that the project brings me
  • Because I value the benefit that the project brings society
  • Because I value the service / product that the company will provide me with if successful

But I personally haven't invested in any ICO except for the Envion one. I'm holding out for better legal situations and less predatory dynamics.

I like projects that already have a product or service built and a community of customers using it.

One example is Envion, a mining container firm. Their website is https://www.envion.org/en/ico/.

Another is Hydrominer, a mining company. Theirs is https://www.hydrominer.org.

And then of course I'm convinced of our own token, the Neumark (NEU)... Wink

Under the danger of sounding self-serving, do take a look at the Neufund ICO.

>>> DISCLAIMER: I'm associated with and employed by Neufund <<<

We actually call it an ICBM, short for Initial Capital Building Mechanism.

No, not Intercontinental Ballistic Missile – although we do believe we'll go to the moon... 🚀🚀🚀

In that ICBM we are not even getting to spend any of your money. 0 %. Nada.

All of it goes to innovation funding, determined at the individual level by you. You control your funds AND get the protocol token NEU in return.

Re: ICOs for investment

According to this one crypto newsletter, more than 400 ICOs launched last week. So when the others here are warning you to get into ICOs, they're correct – the market is flooded by shitcoins and it's very difficult to distinguish good ones from bad in any reasonable amount of time.

I personally have not invested in any except for one that I have a personal connection to. But if I were to provide some guidance for selecting good ones – I work for a company that tokenizes equity and helps companies with their ICOs –, here's what I would say:

  • Check the team's track record and expertise
  • Research news and reviews from industry experts
  • Look for existing code (or a product) – whitepaper should not be enough!

Beyond that, the best maxim to follow is still "don't invest what you can't afford to lose". Especially, if you are new to the game.

In my view though, the ICO market is getting pretty close to being disrupted itself. Legally sound ICOs are on the way. There's a whole world of attractive, real world value tokens beyond the current generation of "shitcoins".

ICO Evolution: Tokenized Equity?
by
existentialventures
on 19/10/2017, 13:49:12 UTC
Hey everyone!

Over the past two years we've seen an explosion of interest in the crypto space even by the mainstream, largely thanks to Ethereum's unexpected (and unintended) killer app: the ICO.

The idea of course is simple:

- write a whitepaper,
- put up a website,
- do a bit of marketing,
- fork some existing (ERC20) token code,
- issue your own coin/token,

and then watch 'dat crypto money flow into your account! Easy peasy...

https://media.giphy.com/media/5fBH6z8aMV1RbA4FaSc/giphy.gif

Of course, where there's "free money", people will try and get some of their own. Today, the ICO space is more competitive than ever and people have trouble distinguishing good from bad players – let alone keeping up with the news of the latest coins, scams, and conflicts...

The professionalization of the space is quickly ramping up. Hedge fund managers are figuring out how to buy early and at a discount, pump the coin for the public sale, and then dump it on the rest of us.

[Side note: Idealism has largely been replaced by FOMO dynamics, although not completely – I myself feel the tug and pull of those twin motivations: greed & inspiration.]

Governments aren't far behind: they've started to investigate the potential for even more control. At the same time regulatory bodies across the globe are observing everything closely, ready to pounce – in some cases already providing guidance.

As a consequence, the ICO space is splitting into two distinct groups:

1. Scams & Extralegal Cash Grabs
2. Legally Secured Non-Equity Fundraising

But there's a third and obvious category missing. What about #3, Equity Tokens?

A number of company's like Equibit & CapchainX are working on them, but it remains to be seen whether the market will be as enthusiastic about them.

What do you think about tokenized equity?
