Re: Only 2% of U.S. Investors Own Bitcoin - How Much Further Up Can It Go?

These numbers are really intriguing, but what do you mean for "2 % of investors"? Is it 2% of the popukation (I don't think so) and if not what do you consider to be an "investor"?

That's a good point. The article says the poll is "based on U.S. adults with $10,000 or more invested in stocks, bonds or mutual funds, either within or outside a retirement savings account". It'd be interesting to see the same poll based off a more general representation of the population.

Only 2% of U.S. Investors Own Bitcoin - How Much Further Up Can It Go?

A recent Gallup poll (linked below) showed that only 2% of U.S. investors own any bitcoin, and 26% are intrigued. Think about those numbers for a second...

If even a small portion of those who are intrigued start to invest, the movement could be huge. Granted these are just numbers for the US, but statistics should be somewhat similar around the world. It seems we are still in the early stages. I know it may seem slow to many of us who have been following bitcoin for years, but don't lose faith, just think about the math and hodl!

Interesting platform. And in keeping with your title, here are some genuine ways to earn bitcoin and crypto in 2018:

1. Earn.com - answer emails in exchange for BTC

2. Bitbond.com - Get interest on the BTC you loan (they say the average is 13% - my experience is about 11%)

3. Bitcoinget.com - A good place to get a little bitcoin while you have time to waste.

4. Faucets if you want a tiny amount

5. Freelance at places like XBTfreelancer.com or reddit.com/r/Jobs4Bitcoins/

Thanks for sharing them! I didn't know some of them. As far as I know, Earn.com asks for Educational domains (.edu) or
Prominent corporate domains which make it impossible to use them for me.

Yeah, Earn.com does want a work email, student email or website email. If you can set up a personal website with your own email (such as john@johnsmith.com), you should be able to get it accepted.

Re: shouldn't we plant billions of trees now? because
by

Planting more trees isn't the right solution. We should cut CO2 emissions, thing that is not so easy to implement when you have superpowers (like USA) who oppose such changes...

Certainly both courses of action would be beneficial to the environment. There is agreement among 99% or so of the scientific community that this needs to be done, or we face very serious consequences.

At the same time, trees absorb CO2 and convert it into Oxygen. Deforestation continues to outpace reforestation and tree planting, so the easiest thing you can do as an individual is to plant more trees. And it doesn't have to cost you anything...find some trees, look for their seeds on the ground and bury them a couple inches under the soil in various places.

Re: Big company involvement in crypto will make Bull market come earlier?
by

The data seems to suggest that we are still recovering from the mania of late 2017 and, from what I can tell this won't fully subside until at least the end of 2018. However, there are a whole wave of institutional class custodial solutions that are hitting the markets now. Some of this stuff will be coming end at the tail end of the year. But I don't think they'll really be truly ready for the big time until sometime next year.

A lot of that money will probably help stem the current downward trend and steady it off. Perhaps we will start to see some long-term growth again in early 2019. Institutional investors are a conservative bunch. Their involvement will be gradual. And announcements will most likely bring small jumps, but as there are more and more announcements, even an Amazon coin won't be seen as big of a news (unless Amazon made this announcement now, which I seriously doubt will happen soon).

Here is an interesting review of Lympo and it's possibilities: https://www.docryptocurrency.com/lympo-review/

Defintely a great idea...it'll be interesting to see how much traction they get and if they can get their app adopted. Looking forward to seeing it in the app stores.

Re: Charity Institute Crypto currency
by
expertinfo888
on 07/07/2018, 06:16:52 UTC
One of my hopes is that cryptocurrency will help enable direct charity. For example, if you've been in a flood, earthquake etc and the media have come to report, you simply hold up a QR code on your phone and anyone watching could scan your code and donate to you directly. We're not there yet, but hopefully...

The UN has been having success with a program to help Syrian refugees using blockchain: https://qz.com/1118743/world-food-programmes-ethereum-based-blockchain-for-syrian-refugees-in-jordan/

As time goes by, it's fairly safe to say that blockchain should help make the charity industry more efficient and donations more direct and effective.

Thanks for raising this!

Very Important Issue With Metamask (and any Crypto-related Browser extension)
by
expertinfo888
on 02/07/2018, 21:44:49 UTC
A lot of people use Metamask and it is definitely a really cool application, but something a lot of people don't talk about (or may not care about or be unaware of) is if you use it on Chrome, Firefox or Opera, basically any website you visit can see you have it installed and know that are a crypto investor.

This may not bother some, but it paints you as a target for crypto thieves. Just an important thing to be aware of.

However, it does appear that using it on the Brave browser might eliminate this risk. I'm not yet certain of this though.

In any case, Metamask is pretty awesome, but you should be aware of this if using it.

See a physical therapist.

If you strengthen some muscles as well as improve your sitting position, it'll help.
I don't think there is a miracle cure, just a way to minimize the problem.

That's not a bad idea. Maybe I just need to strengthen the right muscles.

Re: Secure bitcoin
by
expertinfo888
on 28/06/2018, 18:18:37 UTC
How we secure our bitcoins from hackers
What is the best option for securing
1 hardware ledger
2.wallet

With bitcoin, you are your own bank, which means the responsibility of protecting your money. It's not always easy. And how the type of wallet you use really depends on if you plan to hold for the long-term or trade regularly.

Protecting your bitcoin really is dependent on how well you protect your private key. The absolute safest way would be to memorize it and never forget it. Easier said than done, but possible.

The next safest is either a paper wallet or a hardware wallet. Neither is perfect, but both are fairly good.

1) Paper wallet - you can use something like bitaddress.org to create a paper wallet, but these can be somewhat easy to mess up. Another drawback is, it's a piece of paper. I recommend making multiple copies, laminating them and keeping them in separate places.

2) Hardware wallet - as mentioned here, this is basically a USB stick that stores your keys and keeps them safe from malware. Nice thing about these is that you can plug them into your computer and still buy and sell crypto using them. Also, if you set it up, you can restore them if you lose the hardware wallet or it gets destroyed. The 3 most well-known hardware wallets are the Ledger Nano S, Trezor and Keepkey.

Re: How blockchain can help poor countries
by

Are there any initiatives using blockchain providing help for poor communities around?

The UN is implementing an interesting program to use blockchain to send funds to Syrian refugees in Jordan. They were already doing this, but using the blockchain has allowed them to avoid paying local banks and, therefore, have more money which can be given direct to the refugees:

Re: Will bull run of BTC start soon?
by
expertinfo888
on 28/06/2018, 17:00:00 UTC
This year , upto now is not good for crypto investors. Value of the investment is far less than previous year. We saw last year BTC went pass 19k and now it is around 7-8k. Price of btc is fluctuating. Therefore alt price also not increasing. Every investors hope the recover of market soon. But it didn't happen yet. Some experts said that it will start on june. What do you think about this situation?

The simple truth is, nobody knows the future for certain. The more a person researches, the better they can guess. The more technicals they know, the better they can guess. But in the end, the future is simply unknown. All sorts of unexpected things could happen that could change the direction of BTC.

Personally, I tend to think it'll probably resume late in the year, but it probably won't get exponential (like late 2017) until at least mid to late 2018.

But, again, we shall see...

However, because I now use a computer so much more, my neck and back have started hurting more. I am not overweight and exercise every single morning and take walks every night. I now have a sit/stand desk, so I can stand if I want. I use a large screen too.

You are tilting your head up or down when you look at the screen.  Common problem.  Raise or lower your monitor so you are starting straight ahead.

I saw a youtube video with this and it really works also occasionally stretching your legs and cushions helps.

Any chance you can find a link to that youtube video?

Re: Coinbase pro - staking

What are the real advantages of the new Coin Base Pro ? They will offer staking, I don't know what that is for this case.

I don't know all of the advantages, but here are some things I've noticed.

1. There's a "My Wallets" tab where you can see all your funds in one place. GDAX didn't have this.
2. The deposit and withdrawl process seems simpler
3. I personally prefer the look and color, it seems sleeker...IMHO

Other than that, I didn't notice much difference. I think Coinbase mainly did this because they have more brand awareness now and they want to bring GDAX back under the Coinbase label.

Challenge: Can You Summarize Bitcoin in One Sentence?
by
expertinfo888
on 28/06/2018, 01:26:28 UTC
I have had trouble finding a way to explain to others what bitcoin is in an easy-to-understand, straightforward way that really encompasses all of what bitcoin is not just parts of it.

Perhaps it really can't be explained in a short, simple way that incorporates everything that bitcoin is, but I am hoping someone here might be articulate enough to do so.

I'd really love to have one sentence that is able to do this. Hope you can provide it!
