I just entered "Bitcoin" in Google, and saw this
...
With a link that hops you over to:
http://forklog.net/dash-is-determined-to-supersede-bitcoin-as-a-real-paypal-alternative/

I just tried Dash and its now on the the first page of Google (last link on the page).

tante:
this is nothing special. Google already knows that you love dash. Logout from your browser and try this again.

Can confirm. Logged out (and in incognito mode) Dash.org now shows up on the first page of google results for "dash". Last week it was in the middle of page 2!!

Making good progress!

@Raptor, derp...well spotted.

I saw your quick/draft logo, did you decide on a name for your project? (I might of missed you talking about it).

Yes I did and it isn't any of the names mentioned in this thread. You might be able to deduce it from the rough sketch of a brainstorming idea for a logo I did upthread.

Btw, thanks for all the feedback and help on brainstorming names upthread.

Yeah, it was that sketch that threw me off as it looks/sounds like the domain you recently gave away. Oh and no probs...I'm no developer but for some reason I do enjoy the whole "design/logo" process.

I used to respect him...nowadays he has sold himself into a clown :/

I think AA is right, it was a stupid/crass move and shouldn't have been entertained...especially since Evan and Co were there. At least it was rectified and Dash was able to continue on with the conference.

Looking back, yeah you’re right… those new suggestions aren’t exactly “instantly descriptive”. I was struggling to come up with anything meaningful/worthwhile. Glad you have you have come to a conclusion, even though you spent a few extra bucks on domains…you can sleep easy nobody will be ripping off your idea (or like you said they will be left with a rubbish url).

Have you thought about designs? Another user on the board (I think it was GeneralizeThis) mentioned a site called;

http://99designs.co.uk/

Never heard of it before, but after looking it might be useful…certainly good value for money (some of the designs look excellent). If not I will see if I can think of anything and get it posted up. Is there a certain direction you are wanting to go in (colours, shapes, font type etc).

Ultimately I far prefer the æ but I'll survive with the other symbol; I just won't be as happy about it but I'm sure I'll get used to it in time.

I'm not invested in Aeon but read most of the Altcoin threads since its all very addictive. Personally, its' no contest, æ just looks nicer...plus the current logo is lowercase (so you would be loosing the link between the two).

Yeah I wouldn't get too attached to the current logo. Is was created in five minutes by the original developers and almost certainly will have to change.

It's just a blue square with a basic windows font. It's completety illegible at 16x16, doesn't represent any currency symbol at all, and if expressed in monochrome would just be a standard windows font.

So that won't be sticking around for very long.

Oh OK, I didn't look into it too much but that makes sense (thanks for pointing that out). I still prefer the less aggressive approach, the lowercase æ appears softer less "xtreme" than all caps (imo of course).

There is more to your project that I originally thought.

...we don't want 'cash' in the name of the juice that can drive the web. It should be something users generate for free from mining and web activity and don't even know it....

That got me thinking, I know you’re not overly keen on the artyfarty Ethereum type names but there was one I thought expresses that

Fabric    (the essential structure of anything, especially a society or culture.)
("the fabric of society"…could you change that to “the fabric of the internet”)

So you could then break that down to fibre’s and/or threads for the social part. For example:

“Can you send me some threads”
“No, sorry, I’ve only got a few fibres left”

Other left field names:
Net:aurum* (awe-rum)(The Latin word for gold)(store-of-value)
Net:aes (ace) (Latin for bronze, ore, copper, etc)(social currency)
Ethos
Bolt (perhaps prefixing other words in your thread)

*Net:aurum looks and sounds great, but its moving away from being instantly understandable.

Predictably, I also thought mobits was good…but totally understand you wanting to move away from bits. I could be way off here but if Bitcoin is really here to stay then I think bits will become something like the term email (just for talking sake). Might be weird for some now but eventually it would be common place to describe a few units of any cryptocurrency. Instead of having to remember term for each, people will use the easiest/quickest description (hope that makes sense). However, THX 1138 is right about the mo/mobile part, mobisync, mobicodes etc just doesn’t sound good.

Moola was also a very good choice, IMO its more attractive as a brand than most other names in this thread.

Other thoughts:
I dont know if its my inner ocd, but I think it should all fit together (for example)

NetCode/Project
NetGold/Store of Value
NetBits**/Social Currency (ie, bits of gold?)

Not overly keen when you do if this way
NetCode/Project
NetGold/Store of Value
NetCodes or Codes** /Social Currency (reusing one of the names or dropping the prefix net doesn't sound right, but again that could just be me)
**Dots and dashes...could the satoshi unit be replaced by one of those?

Finally, I dont mean to be that guy but feel I should at least voice my concern. Some of the word choices aren't great (imo of course). Zap, fun and cool spring to mind. I would stay away from those personally as I've said before...when you tell kids something cool and fun...they usually think the opposite.

This sort of comment is bewildering to me. It is as you did not read what I wrote. Are you a programmer and completely oblivious to the way normal people think?

Nope, I'm not a programmer...it was just my opinion. Discount code, voucher code, yeah sure but netcode doesn't have the same effect on me.

Quote from: TPTB_need_war
I have questions for you and any other reader who would like to respond:

1. Provide any name that does not contain Coin, Cash, Token, Money, or Note (other existing term for money) that says anything about currency?

2. If a code means to a normal person, a key that gives them access to virtual goods and services then how do codes not represent value? Perhaps you haven't ever viewed how people share codes on the internet  Huh

3. What do the following have to go with "coding" (where you assumed normal users think to use 'code' means to engage in programming)?

1) Stumped (not sure if barter or scrilla would qualify)

2) I think it depends on the context (maybe that is why I dont agree with you on this)

3) Yeah, all those suggestions have something infront of code that makes sense to me.

Symmetry.

Still here! I quite liked this also, you could shorten the currency down to sym.

I'm struggling to come up with anything, think I'm tapped out. I liked your Quantum suggestion but again relies on bits (qbits/qubits) for the currency. My first reaction to netcode was it sounds like somewhere I would learn about coding, I dont think it says anything about currency or value to the end user. Apart from that, the only other one I quite liked was Moji (mojo not so much).

Anyway, I will keep checking back and I will post any worthwhile suggestions...but I don't want to distract you with rubbish ideas. Good luck!

Ah, so you think the ¥ symbol could cause problems? Pity, I thought you were onto something. I know you are moving away from this, but I thought I would post it up anyway. Just a rough draft (nothing is aligned), was trying see what it would look like.

A little off topic, but is BitTorrent popular where you in the world (ie your gf or her friends use it)?  Plenty of kids here in the uk (Both male  &  female) are very familiar with it and I get asked questions quite a lot by students, so I’m guessing they are accustomed to the word “Bit” plus it has the double meaning for being a bit of something (like you said in an earlier post).

I will see if I can think of anything else worth posting tonight.

Lots of reading to catch up on this morning, just thought I would post this now while I have a few mins in work:

¥ will piss off the Chinese. Why did we favor Japan over China.

Sorry, I’m a bit confused, I thought the ¥ symbol was for both the Chinese Yuan and the Japanese Yen? So not understanding why it would piss off the Chinese market and not the Japanese?

Yoobits is more personal, but there are too many variants, e.g. ibits, mebits, etc.. Also many people will wonder why just didn't spell "Youbits". And You bits is bit more confusing than Yourbits or mybits but then whose bits are these  Huh. They are yours when I am going to send them to you and they are mine until I do.

Yeah, that is the downfall of a made up word…it does it run the risk of being bad/confusing English…or does it make it stand out (only time will tell I suppose)

Or we could try to dump Bits theme entirely but for what?

That’s a shame you feel that way, I think Bits is fantastic (I’ve not heard an alternative I prefer yet). I totally agree with what you said yesterday about everybody still calls Bitcoin by its full name and your users would have no other choice but to call it bits.

Ha, I cant believe I never spotted yooɃits...staring right at me. I also didnt pick up on the other parts of your project/coin, so running with that idea

yooSync
yooɃits

...you expand that even further (while running the risk of it sounding bad engrish)

youchat
yooplay (maybe down the line some social games, candy crush style or media aspect)
yoopay

THX 1138 pointed out (which im sure you are already aware of but I embarrassingly didnt realise)

(the ¥ symbol shared with Yen and Yuan having both positive and negative associations I guess).

So if the ¥Ƀ part translates ok, it could make for some nice marketing.

Special mention goes to Deft, maybe not right for this project that that one stood out.

Edit - A few others but not really worth posting

Switch
Liber

Switch  was a debit card in the uk, but got renamed to Maestro (owned by MasterCard)  in 2002. not sure if that would pose a problem.

Where's everyone gone?

The previous post was close to 8 hours ago!

Everyone crying into their beers about the price?

It is pretty disappointing. Such a fickle realm is this crypto stuff.

But overall the price is being maintained at least ($US-wise anyway) on the back of this BTC rally that's savaging virtually all alts.

Price is, well, rather disappointing. Like many others my original investment has taken a bit of a tanking recently, but like you said most/all altcoins holders are in the same boat.

Anyway, back to Dash. I would like to say first I’m not a developer so I might be underestimating some of this…or even getting it completely wrong (so excuse my naivety). I would love to see things that would drive normal people and not just nerds to use Dash. Of course getting it into retailers etc is important but at the moment (I think) we should concentrate on what is currently our core...internet savvy users.

Ecommerce
=============
OpenBazaar
https://openbazaar.org/
A no-brainer and has been talked about multiple times. I think something like this is essential (although I'm unsure how we would go about doing this),

1)   If it was forked, could it run on the MN network?
I’m guessing this would be a big job, then trying to keep up with the constant updates etc. If this was to happen I would suggest using both Dash and Bitcoin (instead of forcing Dash onto users, let them see the benefits first hand). Some people might not want to use Dash and that’s ok, no need to exclude anybody.

2)   Getting Dash implemented by the OB devs
Again, I’m not sure how we would go about this, would monthly donations from the Budget proposal be enough?

Open Source Plugins
https://bitpay.com/bitcoin-for-ecommerce
I see bitpay has a ton of plugins which are no doubt very useful for people when accepting a crypto currency, could this be something we improve on and do this ourselves? Meaning the fee’s could be lower/free?

Social
=============
ChangeTip
https://www.changetip.com
Getting a changetip bot working on Reddit/Twitter/FB etc? Did wonders for other coins.

WeCollective (Decentralised Reddit/Forum)
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/wecollective/we-collective-the-next-step-in-the-evolution-of-so
They never reached their goal on Kickstarter, but the project itself sounds interesting (again, would it be possible to host on the mn network?). Having users gain Dash for posting content would certainly be a unique feature. I’m not 100% sure if the Dash team would want to go down this route, would they be open to the headaches of a Social platform (DMCA Takedown’s etc). Or would the site run itself (it does suggest that).
Despite some of the problems that would inevitably arise, a free speech platform could become very popular very quickly. (Would be finally have a free and open /r/bitcoin and bct replacement?)

Edit - Perhaps I should explain my reasoning behind the OB / Social suggestions. We have miners earning dash as do people running MN's, it would be nice for the regular joe's of the world to earn Dash via selling things on OB or contributing to the WeCollective/Reddit/Forum.
