Unless you share your private keys with someone, your funds are safe. MyEtherWallet is an interface to allow people access their funds, but your ETH/tokens are stored into the blockchain and not in MEW itself

Gold has an "historical" value. Furthermore, it has a lot of cool physical characteristics; also, you can touch it, which is one of the most important difference with Bitcoin: a lot of people can't trust Bitcoin because "it just exists on the internet".

Currently, micropayments are a huge problem for Bitcoin. So I'm looking for the best altcoin which can be used for small transactions (0.5$ - 1$, for example) and could manage them in a fast way, with the lowest fees possible.
I guess XLM - Stellar Lumens may be a problem solver, but are there any competitors to it? Excluding Ripple, which I don't want to use.
