I opened the email and assumed it was some sort if phishing attempt  glad I already made my mind up to never order from them.

Considering how often there database gets hacked I'd hate to have valuable information about myself there.

Right? No more Bitmain for me...

Same here!
Been off the forum for a while...for Discord...anyway, yeah, I got that e-mail and blew a cork. NFW.

The Ice Planet has more amps...I'm sending my partner's 821 and my 741 up, and then we'll add a couple of 841s in those free power slots here at home.

Been doing this now since the White Paper, and I haven't regretted a minute of it. Met a couple of really good friends, and learned (and keep learning) a bunch.

Best of luck with all that volcano action.

Stay safe!
Ah! Thank you for the kind thought. That's on Big Island (Hawai'i Island), several hundred miles from Kaua'i. Actually, the major portion of Big Island really isn't nonfunctional, but it ain't fun, either.

I've got friends (an MD with Red Cross and several who are Team Rubicon) whom have deployed to the Puna area. No one has really been injured by this event, though (well, one fellow...but we won't count that one...)

Mine on...  Kiss

Two blocks listed?  hmmmm..

Looks like the new block 524838 is listed twice and counted twice on the Blocks page...

It'll drop off before the 16 hours is up....kano is on top of it.
It's the middle of the night in Kano land...he'll get to it. First time I've seen this, though. Interesting.  Kiss

OT, but I'm really looking forward to performing a rite of passage--we should at least get badges or something--by making a 220v NEMA 10-30 (3 prong dryer plug) to C13 (female PSU plug) power cord for the 1200w HP server PSU that I'm using to run my Avalon6...

Just out of curiosity, though...
* Has anyone ran into any issues with their dryer outlet not being surge protected? I'm currently dedicating a heavy duty surge protector to my mining rig
* Also, is it true that the PSU will run cooler--how to even tell, I don't know--on 220v vs. 110v?

Although I don't use the 10-30, if your breaker box is properly grounded, and you're using appropriately rated amps per breaker, you shouldn't have to worry about "surge" protectors. I wired up 6-20's, with 10-2 gauge at 220. I just keep my amps about 80% under the breaker threshold. I've lost power a few times in the last couple of months, and a few times it had a "flicker" before going out. At that point, the main breaker for my miners "popped". So, when the power came on, then off, then on, they had no power hitting them. Even at that point, had the breaker not "popped", the psu's should have caught the problem--if there was one. Most psu's are made to protect your equipment in situations like this.

As far as 110 vs. 220, 220 allows you to pull lower amps, which in turn lowers the temp, in your power lines running TO your psu's. I've never worried too much about my psu temps, as they hardly ever get warm to the touch. This includes 2 apw3++, 2 sorcerer,  and 2 whatsminer m3 psu's. Even recently on 88°f days, they're pretty cool.
The problem here is low voltage, or sporadic voltage (weak grid on the island). I run 1800W line conditioners on each of my miners that supply the miner, controller, and network switch.

Haven't been around much the past couple of weeks, for reasons stated earlier. Just got off the antibiotics and feeling a bit human again...LOL...

It's good to see all the support from newer miners, and the effort to promote the pool. It's appreciated by all of us. The one thing I did not have to worry about whilst working the disaster op was the mine. I knew you all had each other's back (including mine and my partner's), and that's what counts.

In case you weren't aware, the Seven Dwarfs were diamond miners. At present I have seven machines. They're named after the dwarfs. Dopey (an 821) is my fave.

Mine on.

Thank you, Biffa.  I didn't realize we were paid only for finding blocks.  I thought finding a block was like an added bonus of some sort, not the only way we get paid.

My understanding is completely incorrect now and I will have to reread how this all works.  I was thinking the average of the difficulty was supposed to help even out our payouts but I don't see it actually working out in this manner.  Especially, when there is no payout for 5 days and nothing to come of it after all of that time.  That's a lot of cost and time for nothing. This is not a complaint, but a realization that there is more risk to mining in this manner than I was thinking originally.  I was anticipating a payout on almost a daily basis, but it's far from that after seeing recent payouts over the past couple of weeks.  Basically, there are times where we could essentially get paid nothing for offering our service.

What happens when all of the BTC blocks are found?  Are these ASICs basically rendered useless?  I understand that the ASICs are meant for SHA-256, so maybe Bitcoin Cash or another SHA-256 crypto is what we would be forced to switch to?  Is this what would have to happen?

Thank you.

By the time all the blocks have been found we'll likely be dead and there will likely be a new form of currency.
Miners are rewarded with new BTC in addition to the transaction fees included in the block. How the pool operator divvies that all up is the difference.

When all the coin are generated (note that I did not say all blocks are "found") there will still be blocks to be processed, and my assumption is that our ASICs will still be doing the same thing, but only for tx fees and no additional BTC reward. How that will play out in reality, which will be a direct result of spot price, is anyone's guess, I think.

I'm probably wrong, but I'm still half wonky after three weeks on a disaster op, a staph infection, and a few other fun things. Mine on.  Kiss

Good to see a couple of new blocks...I've been at the Forward Operating Base for Team Rubicon's Operation Pili Ho'ohele on Kaua'i Island since Sunday, and just got Internet back. We're mucking out homes, doing demo work, and debris removal in the hardest hit areas (Hanalei, Wainiha, Haena). I'm too old and beat up to do the strike team work, but I make a pretty good house mother and chef who can still "kick ass and get shit done" (the Team Rubicon motto) when necessary.

Keep finding the blocks, bunkies...on this end, it's all going for fuel for my 4x4 to get this job done.

Mine on.  Kiss

Is it just a coincidence that the same day you order 2x more Antminers your car gets T-boned by a Toyota AVALON?!
I think they call that a hint...

P.S. - Hope everyone's alright.

Luckily I have full coverage because the guy driving the car that hit didn't speak any English and had none. Everyone is okay, thanks for asking.

Yikes!  Glad you're OK.   That brings up a point that my SO and I were discussing the other day.   I don't have any "local" friends that are into crypto so, in the event of my untimely demise, I want her to know how to access what I have (wallets, miners, etc.) but having it all on paper doesn't help her much.

Maybe I should give her my bitcointalk user/pass and have her reach out to this community.  Huh

Has anyone here thought about their crypto-heirs and how they'll deal with it all?

Yup. I manage a co-op mining op. The other participants understand BTC, so I don't have to tutor anything on that. I have a hardcopy notebook I keep in my safe with all passwords, URLs, home network map, etc. to literally keep my life moving if I'm not around. The others each have a way to get into the safe if something went south. I don't depend on any special hardware, wallets, keykeepers, etc. but rather good old paper and ink. Too much changes over time, people forget, and hardware fails. I guess that's the disaster response part of me talking.  Kiss

EDIT: And...in keeping with the basics...all of that runs on Core on Ubuntu 16.04LTS. I haven't used anyone else's "wallet" or "vault" since Mt. Gox.

Install Bitcoin Core on Linux, they say. It'll be fun, they say--actually nobody said it'd be fun per se, but I am learning a lot! Grin

Stay tuned... Looks like I'll be using Lubuntu on an old machine. More updates to come in the future.
Update: Lubuntu installed and updated with Bitcoin Core! Just need another day for the blockchain to download, and "I'm ret ta go!" Cool

Amazing what you can accomplish during an evening without the wife and kids. Wink
Welcome to the land of the enlightened, my friend...I haven't used anything from MickeySoft in a couple of years.

I had two related questions, but first let me set the stage:

Got 4 new 841s, and at the same time sold my old 741 to a friend.  Everything been great for both of us for a few weeks, but for a reason(s) neither of us understand, the settings in the controller I sold to him reverted late last week to my old settings.  So you guessed it - I got credited with his machine's work since the old settings obviously had my worker info until he fixed it this morning:

Question #1:  Any easy way to split out the work?   This is more theoretical than practical - I'm just going to buy him lunch to pay him back but I was curious if there was an easy way to do this if the parties have a agreement on hash rate share (ie I am 4.5 machines he is .5).

Question #2:  While computing on my worker, his machine caused my average "Shares" count to double; yet the "Average Share" value fell by half.   Clearly I don't understand these values like I thought.  I would expect all values to change by a percentage value commensurate with the the incremental hash rate.  Could someone explain how those are calculated?

https://imgur.com/gallery/Pfl2g

Thanks!

I've been managing a "co-op" operation (very small...total of ~45TH) for three years. Each partner gets a share of the block reward based on their relative spec'd hash, cf. there are 7 machines total with 46.5TH, six of them are mine with a total of 35.5TH, and one for a partner (an 821) at 11TH. Divide the block reward by the total shares, then multiply by one's own number of shares. Transmit the rewards to the partner when they get to a threshold of .01BTC (simply for efficiently). Send the partner a spreadsheet weekly with all the tx details from my Core. Not complicated at all, transparent (the partner has access to the board, and the pool stats), and inexpensive to manage. My first mining partner passed away last year; he helped me get started in pool mining.

There's a distinct advantage for both of us; the 5Nd makes it easier for the co-op to "absorb" minor machine burps and bumps without significant overall hash loss. The transparency here is a distinct advantage.

Best of luck.
