Thanks for your information Bullitt.

Looks like Dwarfpool stole my contributions.

Are any of these mining pools honest!

What's going on at Dwarfpool?

This may not be the right place - apologies if that is the case.

Dwarfpool:
Does anyone know why the stats and worker balances have been dead for weeks now?
I noticed as soon as I got near a payout that everything went blank when I put in my worker address.
Anyone else had this?

Are Nicehash and Monero a bad idea for new miners?
by
freddy4
on 08/02/2018, 09:38:36 UTC
Newbies with low hash power are often told the Nicehash miner and Monero coin should be tried.

However, with Nicehash they only payout in Bitcoin and the payout threshold was recently around $100 worth of BTC (taking a long time to mine for someone with low hash power).

Monero (as a coin) has similar problems over transfer fees.

So should we stop recommending these two for newbs?

I note that zcash is about the only coin that uses equihash?

What are the best GPU's for which algo's?  (NVIDIA vs AMD)

Yes - also having problems with Cryptonator login. Luckily, I don't have any of my coins going to them.

Nvidia - only a GTX1050 for now. But maybe be investing in a small rig (2 or 3 GPU's with reasonable hashing power).
Run the Nicehash profitability test and see what algo brings the most profit. Then look for coins that can be mined with this algorithm Smiley.

The Nicehash calculator is useful, but Nicehash itself as a miner is not very useful because of the very high payout threshold in Bitcoin(last time on the website that was nearly $100 worth - which would take weeks to mine).

What is best to mine with GPU/CPU 2018?

Tried Monero. Quite good  but fees were almost as bad as Bitcoin.

Nice Hash ok (can mine alt coins and they payout in BTC) but huge problems reaching the min payout.

I am continuing to try different altcoins. The criteria for me is:

Easy set up for miner.

Decent independent wallet.

Low or no fees

Low payout threshold.

All this info readily available on one site.

Suggestions and reasons please?

Yes - tried monero. Quite a good coin and algo. But seems to be run by one individual (wallet) and fees were almost as bad as Bitcoin. Not really worth mining.

Nice Hash ok (can mine alt coins and they payout in BTC) but again huge problems reaching the min payout.

I am continuing to try small altcoins. The criteria for me is:

Easy set up for miner.

Decent independent wallet.

Low or no fees

low payout threshold.

All this info readily available on one site.

I am also looking at scrypt algo coins and finding a specialised rig - something like ant miner but cheap.

Yeah I would reduce the voltage/speed rather than disable cores if possible. All I have messed with are i5's and i7's but with those you can just reduce the multiplier and/or turn off turbo if you dont want to mess with figuring out a stable voltage.

Yes got it about laptops generally. Will also try other less energy using cryptos.

I am now using older PC. So, how does the multiplier get reduced and /or turn off the turbo?

Not really doing it for the money. Doing it to learn about crypto and mining. Thanks for the input.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I am running I5 7300ghz. on MSI gp62 laptop + (GTX 1050 GPU ) Using two threads on CPU.

Cooling fan speed adjustment is via MSI dragon centre set on cooler boost (highest setting).

Now temp runs at at 73 c  Still a bit too high?

How do I undervoltage and turn off turbo?

What is HSF?

Thanks

cpu miner - processor getting hot
by

How do I configure CPU chip to only mine on 1 or two threads? Currently bat file
starts mining 4 threads and cpu gets hot - around 80 degrees.

bat file reads:

minerd -a groestl -o stratum+tcp://grs.suprnova.cc:5544 -u xxx.xxx -p xxx

x is user/worker name and password

Cpu miner now working on suprnova. How do I limit the threads miner uses,  as  full 4 threads is running too hot?

I am using:

minerd -a groestl -o stratum+tcp://grs.suprnova.cc:5544 -u x.x -p x

(where x is username.workername and password)

This throws up:
 stratum authentication failed.....

Any ideas?

Mining on GPU ok and trying to add cpu mining at the same time.

This is by way of a question about miningpoolhub. (sorry if the answers are already available).

What is the minimum amount before payout?

What is the fee?

How long does it take to get paid?

I know it may depend on which coin, what rig and market etc.

Let's assume basic  GPU GTX 1050, Middle CPU and W10.

Re: best flexible coin to mine for starter
by

Thanks for suggestions:

After quick try out of Nicehash it is showing
projected monthly income of $5 or 0.000381 BTC (My CPU and GPU combined).

However, Nicehash appear to have made minimum payout level to
external wallet 0.01 per week ($150 at current rates) or 30 months!

I really wanted paying much quicker for smaller operators.

So it looks like Nicehash would keep any mining profit for those that mine
for a while only to realise it would take for ever to get paid.

Back to my original question. Are there any miners/apps  that pay out without huge time lags
for smaller amounts?

best flexible coin to mine for starter

Hello All

I have mined a few weeks with Monero using ordinary PC and Nvida card.

I was attracted to Monero because it was held to be ok for those without powerful rigs and
good for both  cpu and GPU. It seemed pitched at those who were interested in crypto but
not necessarily BTC.

However, I have noticed it is very difficult to transfer mined XMR due to fees and lack of wallets/exchanges that take it.

My question is:  What do members recommend as an alternative?

Which coin is easy to get started on for low level mining and will have some value?
Things that would be attractive are, Ease to begin mining with regular PC (I5 chip and Nvida GTX 1050 GPU , worth mining still, good and easy exchange to BTC or other crypto, low fees and easy wallets?

I am thinking litecoin etc but would appreciate some opinions.

If this post is in the wrong section please advise and I will re-post.
