Re: Thoughts on GOLEM ?
by

on 12/05/2017, 05:40:34 UTC
The idea with Golem is that is that it aims to be a distributed supercomputer. A near top of the line supercomputer can be purchased for about $100 million. Golem is already valued at almost twice that now and I haven't seen anything to suggest that Golem will be able to keep up with an actual supercomputer any time soon, much less two. Until Golem proves that it can equal the power of a real supercomputer, I'm not willing to buy it at values that are more than the cost of a real supercomputer. Sold my Golem last week on this basis. Cool project, but don't think it deserves a higher value at the moment.

The problem is that there is no viable alternative to Intel. AMD has their own version of ME. Companies need to see that there is a demand for this. A Petition is a way to show Intel that there is demand for this.

My understanding is that AMD uses something similar to ME called Trust Zone and does not release source code for hardware initialization.

https://puri.sm/posts/petition-for-intel-to-release-an-me-less-cpu-design/

I know that many folks in the cryptocurrency community are concerned and interested in concepts like privacy, freedom, and security. While cryptocurrency can be a great tool towards these ends, the state of our hardware is very concerning.

We do not have control of our devices. Secret bits of code reside in our computers, in places like the processor that acts like a rootkit, loads with every boot, and is beyond our ability to control or modify. It provides a means for introducing privacy-invading, freedom-reducing, security-infringing code on our devices whether we like it or not and without our knowledge.

One researcher, Joanna Rutkowska, has thought deeply about these issues and has proposed what she calls a stateless laptop.  To generalize, a stateless laptop pulls all stateful memory like the bios out of the computer and its hardware and places it on a read-only 'trusted stick,' which is used to boot the computer.  Even OS's like Tails cannot get around the loss of privacy, freedom, and security that results from built-in stateful hardware memory that is beyond our control.

http://blog.invisiblethings.org/papers/2015/state_harmful.pdf

Joanna Rutkowska has also created an amazing version of Linux called Qubes OS which allows users to basically sandbox just about every process on the computer.

One manufacturer, Purism, has begun to implement Joanna's ideas. https://puri.sm They are already producing high-end computers with hard-wired switches for things like cameras, microphones, wifi and the like, allowing users to know for sure whether something is accessible or not. They also run Qubes OS. In doing so, they have greatly increased privacy, freedom, and security for their users.

However, Purism can only take things so far. Currently, all Intel processors contain Intel's Management Engine. Intel’s Management Engine (ME) is a threat to users’ digital rights. It is an unreadable binary file that is cryptographically signed by Intel, requiring users to compromise their security, privacy, and freedom because users must execute unknown and unverifiable code on the CPU. Because ME is built in and beyond user control, a stateless laptop appears to be unachievable with Intel technology.

Purism has been trying to convince Intel to produce an ME-less processor, but Intel has yet to be convinced. If Intel were to produce an ME-less processor, Purism would be very close to being able to produce a stateless laptop of the sort that Joanna Rutkowska envisioned.

PLEASE sign Purism's petition to Intel to produce a ME-less processor so that our common goals of privacy, freedom, and security can be better attained.

May 27 was a crazy day, but after the dump, you could get LSK for about .00078 BTC, .00011 BTC more than it costs now. At the time, BTC was about $471, so one LSK cost a about 36.7 cents. Right now 1 LSK is about .00068 BTC but BTC is $696, meaning that 1 LSK is worth about 46 cents. So, while it looks like it has fallen, LSK is actually up over 20% since the end of May 27. Even if you were one of the suckers that bought at .001, you're only down less than 3%. My point ... LSK is doing really well, it spite of BTC going crazy.

Now if you bought at .0012, you still got problems (but maybe not for long). Hopefully you bought more once it fell.

Just watched an interview with him. He is very transparent and seems to be an excellent addition the Lisk community.

Thanks for mentioning this!  I went and found the video and Hoskinson is impressive!  I knew he'd done a ton of stuff, but he has done a TON of stuff! Very well-versed in code, crypto, project management, capital, business, etc.  Very well-connected.  He knows the industry inside out. Super versatile.  And here's a fun fact ... He did a highly rated bitcoin course with Udemy in 2013 where 58k people enrolled! https://www.udemy.com/bitcoin-or-how-i-learned-to-stop-worrying-and-love-crypto/

Lisk definitely brought on a wealth of knowledge and know how when Hoskinson agreed to be a senior advisor.  Can't wait to see an interview with Steven Nerayoff.

Check it out his in-depth interview.

I take it I'm not your favorite person Smiley Spoetnik

Welcome again to Bitcointalk - the forum that makes these folks look moderate & restrained. Wink

Thanks for agreeing to help Lisk along. Smiley

I am restrained..
Let me know when the mods give me a free pass and i will show you all what's what  Cool

Was that a broken English insult in defense of an OBVIOUS shit coin ?
What do people liking me have to do with Altcoins ? (AKA: Alternate Currencies)

So did i say something that was false ?
Feel free to correct me or.. try and have an another dig at me personally.
It should be rather obvious i am bullet proof.
So you can all insult me all day long for years on end and i will do nothing but laugh at you.

Why would i care what ICO profiteer dregs of crypto-society think of me ?
You guys think that got it the other way around.. You better care what i think !
It's my opinion that counts.
I am the one with big opinions and lots of things to say.

You got the opinion of a Hero now (the correct one) ..what more do you want ?

You guys want me to cry ?
Aww boo hoo i came here (not to profit from shitcoins) but to make ICO friends  Cheesy

Who here on the whole forum thinks this shitty ass ICO coin with a gay name
will do anything other than get pumped & dumped on centralized exchanges ?
..by design !
Which makes it a fucking scam dumb ass's.

Your whole premise that Ethereum and Lisk are shitcoins is false and a scam in and of itself. These are hugely innovative techs.  ...

Bullshit you are being a deceitful scammer.

ETH was proven to be a scam pretty much in 2014 on my scam topic on page 1.
What transpired since with the Pump & Dump + Advertising hype campaign and Coindesk antics
then V. Butterin dumping and HOW he got Millions in coins is all additional proof added later.

When it's proven ..it is no "theory"
Your just playing dumb games about it.

Further more your assertion about "innovation" is deceitful crock of fucking shit !
How in gods fucking name did Ethereum "innovate" AKA: improve on Bitcoin ?
It didn't !
For fuck sakes all the supporters kept chanting it's being used by Microsoft & IBM
and.... It IS NOT A CURRENCY !
So how is ETH better than something like BTC (an actual currency)

Don't take this the wrong way but once again i feel like i am talking to a retard
or someone who is just being dishonest here (for their profit agenda)
And i have said that the most here.. most posted comment by me..
You are all mostly stupid or deceitful or a combo of both (born out of greed)

AKA: crying FUD for bucks $$$ is big business.  Roll Eyes

EDIT:
I also forgot to mention the biggest problem of all with Ethereum..
It is an ICO launched coin.. that in itself is far more than enough to call it a scam in my books.

DAPPS are an innovation on / over Bitcoin ? (BTC being the yard stick to measure to)
Seriously are you fucking brain damaged or what ?

LOL!  Your crazy is showing. You might want to tuck that back in.

Which makes it a fucking scam dumb ass's.

Your whole premise that Ethereum and Lisk are shitcoins is false and a scam in and of itself. These are hugely innovative techs.  They're enabling programmable money, decentralized applications, decentralized organizations, crowdfunding without a middle man, censor-proof microblogging, provably fair gambling, unstoppable prediction markets, decentralized IoT, decentralized markets, smart contracts, and on and on. Buterin won the World Technology Award for his work on Ethereum! Its sponsors include NASDAQ, Deloitte, CISCO, Microsoft, DOW, Salesforce, GlaxoSmithKline, Shell, Boston Dynamics, Philips, NYSE, and Novartis, and its fellows include a who's who of tech, including Elon Musk and Craig Venter.  It's a big friggin deal. World industry leaders like Microsoft, IBM, JPMorgan Chase, and Deloitte are getting on board.  There are conferences and meetups all over the world.  I've counted 56 live DAPPS on ethercase, and another 54 working prototypes.  And it's a brand new tech.  There is a world of difference between Ethereum and Lisk and some Bitcoin clone, and let's not forget that Bitcoin does little if any of this! How anyone could call the enabling of all this as 'shit' is beyond me.

Your only criteria for 'scam' seems to be the fact that there was an ICO.  But your blanket rejection of ICO's is cretinous. ICO's bring community involvement, money to develop with, money to build a firm foundation, and an incentive for developers to make something amazing.  Sure, pump and dump may make some money, but Bitcoin 2.0 has the potential to bring money several orders of magnitude larger for the developers. Yes, investors still need to do their due diligence and learn about the tech, team, and market, but if those things are in place, it makes sense to get on board with a project that has lots of cash to work with. ICO's provide that cash to work with.  You go on about 'pump and dump' but where are the coins really?  ETH is worth over 10 times what it was when it was released.  It is not that far off from it's all time high, certainly no worse than the type of movement you see in the stock market. LSK ICO tokens are worth over 5 times what ICO buyers paid for them and are up 25% since it started being traded. The dip from the initial profit taking that seems to have offended you won't even be distinguishable on the chart a year from now.

It's pretty clear that your 'big opinions' are trash and that your thoughts are half-baked.  Either you're really as asinine as you sound, or you're just a big fake.

I've seen people like you before, my friend, but I had to pay admission.

I have invested half a bitcoin on Lisk. I have bought them a little bit high. I'm guessing that the price is still very low, so I'm waiting for it to go to at least 2 mills. What do you guys think?

There's no crystal ball obviously, but I think LSK's market cap. will be on par with ETH within 18 months. LSK is different enough from ETH with its sidechains as to be useful in ways that ETH cannot. Both have great potential but LSK has more room to grow valuation-wise given that it is currently valued at a fraction of ETH.

Lisk just announced the addition of Charles Hoskinson & Steven Nerayoff as Senior Advisors to Lisk. Both played strong roles in the rise of Ethereum.

Hoskinson has been CEO of Ethereum, was deeply involved it its design and implementation, and is currently the CEO of Input Output HK, which hosts one of the largest cryptocurrency research divisions in the world.

Steven Nerayoff is an attorney, venture capitalist, and prolific entrepreneur. He has 20 patents, founded 6 companies including blockchain venture capital firm Maple Ventures, IoT/AI/Smart City company Cloudparc, and internet marketplace iOffer.

Both see huge potential in Lisk!

Max continues to surprise and his addition of seasoned industry professionals/intellectuals should bring confidence to Lisk investors that the sky truly is the limit for this project.

Getting people who used to be involved with ETH is hardly huge news.
Also if they are just senior advisors, then they probably get nothing or little out of it, so won't be offering much time to the project.

Good that you are excited though!

ETH is a big deal. Charles Hoskinson and Steven Nerayoff were two of the most prominent individuals responsible for that. Now they're advising LSK. That's big.

Scam account, scam currency, scam news. What do I need to add?

A scam currency wouldn't be working so hard on continued development and integration. The involvement of incredibly smart and successful people is not scam news. It's the lifeblood of successful projects. As for 'scam account'... Go F yourself.  Not every new poster here is a scam.

Re: Invest in LISK or DAO
by
froggy512
on 06/06/2016, 04:05:23 UTC
People buying DAO need to be really careful. I think it's a cool idea, but legally it is a mess that could subject DAO tokenholders to all sorts of unforeseen liability. You may be thinking ... 'I only invested $100 and I'm ok with losing that.' But what if a DAO rent-a-car malfunctions and kills somebody and a court decides that you're legally a general partner and on the hook for the entire judgment because you're a general partner. Suddenly a Plaintiff's attorney is trying to garnish your bank accounts, foreclose on your rental property, and seize your boat.

IMO, Lisk has the best risk/reward profile right now. It has the potential to catch ETH and both are revolutionary techs that should continue to grow.

Spread your bets around. Invest in techs that satisfy unfulfilled needs and that have meaningful differences from the next tech. Above all else, only invest what you are prepared to lose.

Thanks for the response. I'm open to other coins and have gambled on several. For the purpose of this OP, I am curious as to what supply and demand pressures would cause Syscoin's value to increase given that Bitcoin is also usable on the Syscoin platform. If people can pay with Bitcoin on the Syscoin platform, is there a reason that they will need large amounts of actual Syscoin?

I was looking at Syscoin today and their project. I like the decentralized marketplace that they are working on and also liked the consistent progress that they have been making with improvi g their project.

I see that the market will accept Syscoin and Bitcoin and that leads to my question: Doesn't the fact that the market takes Bitcoin make an investment in Syscoin (the coin) a bad idea? Won't everyone just use Bitcoin? Where does the demand for Syscoin come from?

Please, I'm not using this thread to discuss similar projects. I'm just trying to figure out if the Syscoin coin would substantially increase in value IF the market were to become a big success.

Re: What is good about DAO?
by
froggy512
on 03/06/2016, 22:03:03 UTC
The DAO is a business owned by tokenholders who use their tokens to vote on business opportunities for The DAO to pursue with the hope of participating in the profit from those opportunities.

DAO tokenholders will likely be considered general partners if The DAO gets sued. As general partners each tokenholder (even if you own just 1) could be held legally liable for the entire debt. An enterprising Plaintiff's attorney might start off by subpoenaing an exchange with KNC requirements to get a list of tokenholders, then start adding the tokenholders with collectible assets to his lawsuit.
