Quite funny as I decided to have a go at mining an SHA256 altcoin yesterday and chose TRC to play with, interesting lesson learned!

..now what to do with these 10 terracoins I mined  Grin

So you attacked TRC? Bad boy  Angry

Amazing the havoc a hobby miner with a CM1, 2 Lancelots and a block erupter can wreak!

Re: Need your help, new Linux mining distro for the Raspberry PI - MinePeon
by

So I had to do

modprobe ftdi_sio product=0x8350 vendor=0x0403 to make the usb serials arrive in /dev/ttyUSBx

then I had to modify /etc/systemd/system/multi-user.target.wants/cgminer.service

Changing

ExecStart=/usr/bin/screen -dmS cgminer /opt/minepeon/bin/cgminer -S auto --api-listen --api-allow W:172.0.0.1 --sharelog /opt/minepeon/log/share.log -c /opt/minepeon/etc/miner.conf

to read

ExecStart=/usr/bin/screen -dmS cgminer /opt/minepeon/bin/cgminer -S /dev/ttyUSB0 -S /dev/ttyUSB1 -S /dev/ttyUSB2 -S /dev/ttyUSB3 -S /dev/ttyUSB4 -S /dev/ttyUSB5 -S /dev/ttyUSB6 -S /dev/ttyUSB7 -S /dev/ttyUSB8 -S /dev/ttyUSB9 -S /dev/ttyUSB10 -S /dev/ttyUSB11 -S /dev/ttyUSB12 -S /dev/ttyUSB13 -S /dev/ttyUSB14 -S /dev/ttyUSB15 -S /dev/ttyUSB16 -S /dev/ttyUSB17 -S /dev/ttyUSB18 -S /dev/ttyUSB19 --api-listen --api-allow W:172.0.0.1 --sharelog /opt/minepeon/log/share.log -c /opt/minepeon/etc/miner.conf

I note the scale of the graph reports Th not Gh.

Cheers

Hi, I downloaded MinePeon-2013-06-11.zip to have a try with my CM1 and the stock autoconfig stuff doesn't seem to work - I see:

[    4.067600] systemd-udevd[76]: starting version 204
[    4.368042] systemd-udevd[76]: unknown key 'SYSFS{idProduct}' in /usr/lib/udev/rules.d/99-cairnsmore.rules:1
[    4.368165] systemd-udevd[76]: invalid rule '/usr/lib/udev/rules.d/99-cairnsmore.rules:1'
[    4.405813] systemd-udevd[76]: specified group 'plugdev' unknown

in dmesg.

but - If I try to use the cgminer options that work on the self compiled version I made in Raspbian (similar to above, using -S /dev/ttyUSB0 -S /dev/ttyUSB1 etc) after running "modprobe ftdi_sio product=0x8350 vendor=0x0403"
I get:

/opt/minepeon/bin/cgminer: -S: unrecognized option

has something changed with the build of cgminer in this version?

=== from minepeon 2013-06-11==============

/opt/minepeon/bin/cgminer -help
cgminer 3.2.1
Built with bflsc bitforce icarus avalon modminer ztex mining support.

==from the one I compiled from source on raspbian (works) ================================

They put your bitcoins in as a Mt Gox trade to equal the $ owed + 1%
As soon as Mt Gox executes it, you have paid.  Hopefully the exchange rate wont drop like a stone, like it did for me, but it bounced back up the next day.
So I put in an amount of bitcoins at equal to what I hope will be the rate + 1% a short time in the future and hope for luck?

Although my Mt Gox account just got verified I haven’t used it yet so I only partly get this.

Is the Mt Gox rate we pay at the "current rate" or "weighted average"?

Is he sending out rounded amounts? I was expecting 0.87 btc, I seem to have gotten 1.00 (exactly).

I don’t know the exact amount as I was getting trickles of dividends daily, but it's unlikely it would be 0.5000 BC on the nose so it seems that way. This seems a weird way to go about it - unless there is some specific reason not to pay out the exact amount.

I also received the spare change I had still left in my accounts. Now I'm still waiting for the important, the asset information.
agreed. All GLBSE accounts should have valid email accounts associated with them so why not just email everybody?

No confirmation here either.

I DID just get 0.5 BC come in on the BC address I provided (only used for GLBSE in the past). No other communications though. 0.5 BC is at least approximately the amount of outstanding dividends I had awaiting.

Re: BFL 60 on Rasberry Pi?
by

I have a raspberry pi and it is a great bit of gear - but one limitation to work with is its somewhat underpowered USB implementation, due to it itself being powered from a USB power supply. This makes it sensitive with which USB devices work with it. Raspberry pi forums discussions on power supply quality, compatible devices, which powered hubs play well with it, are worth further reading.

Anybody’s photographic ID could be used to claim to be my GLBSE account - why not just require  the same credentials as used in the past to log in and use the system to verify the current GLBSE users so they can get the info needed to start direct relationships with asset issuers.
Evidently it was fine for the delisted TYGRR assets at the time?

Interesting idea.. found this vid while searching on youtube

"The "White Noise" in this track is an aural exploration of the first 2% of the BitCoin BlockChain."

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8WivyA3-aww

doesn't say exactly how it was generated from the blockchain (or if directly at all!).

I've been having fun on the site (under name st4rt)... I'm sure I'd be fragging everyone more often if I wasnt so lagged!

All seems to work well besides for me besides the ping time, which is a factor we cant control.

My way to get into the game quick from the command line (Linux):

/opt/UrbanTerror/ioq3-urt +name username +password password +connect 5.9.242.109:27961

Re: [ANN] Bitcoin Spinner App Update – With BitInstant Integration!

some feedback:
when I click the "buy bitcoins" option it sends me to the bitinstant site and prompts me for how many USD I want to get - I put in 10 (for example)and hit "go" - and I get "500 server error".
I guess this is as I'm in an area not supported by bitinstant (Australia), a message rather than an error code could be handy here.

Re: Price stickiness at $5 USD/BTC?
by

on 14/05/2012, 22:24:28 UTC
What about the idea that the price seems to be hovering around or slightly above the cost of mining coins plus a modest profit (if you are in a low electricity cost area).
i.e. Mining (cost to keep the network running) at least a strong contributing factor to the rate.

Re: Why do people think mining is less risky than buying, anyway?
by

on 23/04/2012, 22:46:45 UTC
Both are risky, but mining is perhaps more "concrete". You set up your rig, work out your electricity costs, and instantly have a RELATIVELY predictable trickle of income.

There are heaps of "mining income" calculators out there.. but not so many "how much will I make buying and holding bitcoins" calculators.. maybe this is for a reason.

I think people should be buying bitcoins to use, not to sit on anyway  Grin
