Thanks for sharing. A must-read if u want to understand Zclassic's advantages over Zcash (and some others) in the long run.

Actually I had been interested in ZClassic before but this article was a huge turnoff for me.

Specifically the quote about DASH governance was very disturbing. DASH governance is horrible and masternodes continually vote for expensive proposals (many under their control) that are wasteful failures.

Look at Decred for a vastly improved governance model.

If you repeat this statement, you will lose interest from most XMR supporters some of whom may be interested in zksnarks but hate the 20% dev tax for the first 4 years.

If you're not accumulating aeon, you're insane.

Aeon aeon aeon, 1st, 2nd, 3rd choice

Your first 3 choices are good. I would like to nominate AEON as a 4th choice (now getting RingCT code from XMR) and ZCL (ZClassic is first ZEC fork without 20% miner tax) for 5th

I'm pretty sure Bittrex will only change ticker for a payment of like 2 BTC, so you would probably have to pay them another 2 BTC to get them to change it back Cheesy

For me! I like ticker ""BBR"" than XBB

Most of of prefer BBR

At least now we have confirmation that Bittrex is a garbage exchange that will taken money from an unprover new developer to change the ticker against the wishes of the original developer and most Boolberry users.

Luckily there are better places to trade BBR anyway. We should avoid Bittrex as long as they use the XBB ticker that 1Blocktologist bribed them to use

I would hang on to them and just pick up some Z-cash when it launches in a couple of months. Too many of the ones popping right now are blatant pumps to exit. Beware.

How much money was lost as a result of the DASH paper wallet faulty RNG (January 4th - April 5th, 2016)?

What was the damage caused by the recent fork?

I am 55 and atypical I suppose. I will tell you how I use crypto. I am mining etherium, converting to bitcoin through an exchange sending to coinbase and using my Swift card to buy cat food.

I can confirm that cat food can be purchased with Monero:

I would call 1% of the current supply a whale, so around 110,000 XMR.

Whale definition fluctuates with the price, if Monero shoots above $5, 0.1% is pretty much a whale

Less than .1% has the potential to make someone extremely wealthy IF Monero can achieve its objective of establishing an important privacy hub.

I predict that in 10 years .1% of Monero will either be worth close to zero or be enough to retire on. Failure may be more likely but the potential reward is so great that the risk appeals to me.

I have acquired the domain name:-

www.aeon.help

which we could perhaps use for the main website (or forum).

.help is a relatively new top-level domain - only about a year old. The vast majority of the many other single-worded aeon domains (that are credibly appropriate) have already been taken.

Given that ultimately a website (or forum) is indeed intended to help, it could be pretty useful and succinct for a community-based non-profit entity such as Aeon.

That is a good domain name. People in crypto area already used to .to .io and more. I think .help will work great for this purpose.

I think it is a great name for a help site, but wonder about its impact as a main address.

Who wants to start working on how to guides for Aeon? Surely www.aeon.help would be the perfect place for that!

I used the pump to sell out my positions.

Anyone intrigued by this should first consider that the wallet crashes and often prohibits you from moving large amounts of money.  It took me approximately 30 transactions to simply move my BBR from wallet to exchange.  Annoying, slow, BROKEN.

This coin is sad.  You should either spend the energy to fix it or give up and let it die.

Very disappointing that CZ never appeared to answer questions about network problem during the huge volume spike or apparent daemon issues preventing transactions.

There may be multiple problems:

1. Recipient of large mixin flags transactions may not have enough mixins avail to create new transactions for certain amounts.
2. Fees too small to prevent dust transactions and there is no sweep dust command like Monero has to clean up the mess.
3. I am worried there are far worse problems relating to the core itself. Below is a message I saw (on all operating systems) before and after wallet restoration (made up date and txid):

"Failed to send transaction: transaction was rejected by daemon"

[RPC1]ERROR ..\..\src\currency_core\tx_pool.cpp:69[c
urrency::tx_memory_pool::add_tx]Transaction with id= <123xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx456> used already spent key images2016-Jan-11 04:49:43.543636 [RPC1]Transaction verification failed <123xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx456> 2016-Jan-11 04:49:43.543636 [RPC1][on_send_raw_tx]: Failed to process tx

CZ may be smart but this coin is doomed if he does not get more involved. We need someone like smooth from Aeon who is available to address issues as they arise.

Re: [ANN][AEON] Aeon coin - CryptoNight CPU/GPU - new dev (positions open)
by
funnyman21
on 20/01/2016, 19:22:06 UTC
First, PoS is feasible but not in the short term. There are no other working implementations of cryptonote PoS yet, and developing one is beyond the resources available to this project right now. The only exception to that is the DPoS in XPB, which somewhat different from regular PoS, and not something I would like to pursue. Once there are open source implementations of cryptonote PoS we can consider adopting one. I lean toward a PoW+PoS hybrid that slowly tends toward PoS over time.

Second, the direction I would like to go is toward with this coin is to experiment with a lighter-weight variation of cryptonote that will be friendlier as a payment system for smartphones and other mobile devices. This requires initially some small tweaks and later significant blockchain improvements:

1. Mobile-friendly PoW (CryptoNight Lite). The current PoW is not ideal for smaller devices because the 2MB scratchpad is too large for the cache size on most mobile and lower-end desktop/laptop CPUs. A tweak to use a 1 MB scratchpad would allow it to run efficiently on lower end CPUs including some mobile processors as well as much better performance on mainstream desktops/laptops. Credit for this idea goes to the Louisd'or project (crypto_zoidberg and doe1138), although they didn't clearly explain the benefits of it.

2. Increased block time for fast syncing. The block time determines the number of blocks (or headers) that need to downloaded for syncing on a lightweight client, and in addition, most AEON blocks are currently empty, which is creating wasteful bloat. Finally, all cryptonote coins have higher verification costs compared with BTC forks which leads to more orphans. Instead we should use a 4 minute blocktime, which will reduce sync time by a factor of four, and reduce orphans to a minimum. Coupled with #1 we should improve sync time on lower end devices by at least 10x. Per-block rewards will be increased by 4x to maintain the same emission schedule.

3. Signature trimming for SPV-like clients. a) tweak the transaction format using a variation of the techniques from BBR. b) add a flag to the p2p to allow lightweight clients to not download and verify signatures. They would rely on miners to maintain the integrity of the blockchain, as with SPV wallets. Full nodes will continue to store the entire chain with all signatures.

4. Blockchain pruning for scalability. I propose to expire parts of the chain altogether. After some period of time unspent coins would become unspendable and could be pruned. This will allow the blockchain to stay small forever, and not outgrow small devices. Wallets will need to automatically respend coins that are approaching the expiration window back to the same wallet, or at least recommend that the user do so. There will be a longer grandfather period for existing coins but eventually they too would expire. A way of doing long-term (but not infinite) cold storage with a prepaid storage fee may be added later (likely along with multisig). This will also improve anonymity by reducing age-based attacks.

5. Multisig and payment channels for escrow, contracts and instant payments. Cryptonote coins currently rely on a very lightweight hard-coded scripting system that makes transactions very small, easy to verify, and more secure than full-fledged scripts. I would like to maintain that lightweight system, but add a few more hard-coded cases as required for multisig (escrow, and some forms of contracts) and payment channels (trustless instant payments). This will also require a tool set (library and applications) for implementing the real-time components of payment channels.

Roadmap (schedule target, subject to change according to available resources)

1,2. Tweaked PoW, blocktime (1 week)
2.1. Cryptonote GUI wallet integration (*)
3. Signature trimming  (1-2 month*)
4. Blockchain pruning (3-4 months*)
5. Multisig and payment channels (6 months*)

* subject to evaluation of wallet integration task

Also (planned but no specific schedule)

A. 32-bit and ARM support
B. Database or collection swapping (low memory footprint)

Although my interests are primarily in the area of blockchain technology and experimental improvements to the cryptonote protocol, I invite others to join the project and work on other items such as a GUI wallet (though we can likely adapt existing GUI wallets from other cyptonote coins), mobile wallets, marketing, etc.

I have created a new donation address for the project. The amount of donations received will have some influence on the pace of work, largely because it allows me to gauge the interest of the community in a credible way, and I'm less interested in working on something that no one cares about.

Code:
Generated new wallet: WmsSWgtT1JPg5e3cK41hKXSHVpKW7e47bjgiKmWZkYrhSS5LhRemNyqayaSBtAQ6517eo5PtH9wxHVmM78JDZSUu2W8PqRiNs
view key: 71bf19a7348ede17fa487167710dac401ef1556851bfd36b76040facf051630b

EDIT: Added 32-bit and ARM support, low memory

EDIT: Added cryptonote GUI wallet integration

Is there any way this schedule can be updated? The pruning branch and mining improvements have helped Aeon already.

This was ShapeShift's (probably template) response to my request to add Boolberry, for what its worth:
Quote
Thanks for reaching out. I have added boolberry to our discovery list and our development team will look into it when they begin to decide on the next coins to add. We receive several dozen requests a day for new coins to be added so can not assure you we will add your coin, but we will for sure look into it and see if it makes sense for us to add at this time. Any new coins we add will be announced on our social media channels as well as via our email list.

Thank you for the update. Shapeshift would be a huge benefit to Boolberry until we can convince more merchants to accept us directly. We can benefit Shapeshift by providing them with more liquidity for those interested in trading CryptoNote coins.  This synergy advantage should be obvious from the big volume edge Poloniex has over other exchanges that list far fewer CryptoNote trading pairs.

Boolberry and Aeon may interest Shapeshift enough to be added on their own. However we have a greater chance of success if both Boolberry and Aeonapproach them in a unified fashion. The more Shapeshift users (who currently use them for Monero transactions) that express a similar view the better. CryptoNote community should help all of us and we cannot deny their is a lot of community overlap.

I will cross post this in the Aeon thread and depending on their reaction maybe we should approach Monero too.  My history has demonstrated my support for Monero to be added to Cryptsy (which seemed like a good idea at the time) and my support for an Aeon listing on Bittrex, Poloniex and Shapeshift. Lets work together.

I have decided to help both you and Aeon because your communities have been supportive of Monero and have helped to advance CryptoNote innovation. If Shapeshift decides to add more CryptoNote coins I believe BBR and AEON should be next

https://twitter.com/XMRpromotions/status/689328498893144064

I will also send Shapeshift a follow up email

This will made Boolberry much easier to trade (without an account at an exchange) and actually use! Hopefully everyone here supports this.

Yes we all need to help convince Shapeshift why they should add us. If there was ever a time to trade Boolberry more actively, test popboolr, start accepting Boolberry payments and share your future development plans now is the time!

Everyone contact Shapeshift and vote in the tail emission poll! Lets keep moving Boolberry in the right direction.

Is the only purpose of tail emission to encourage continued mining in a situation where transaction fees alone are not economically sufficient to do so?
