How many coins have been created so far?

I calculated 740 blocks * 65/block = 48,100. Is that correct?

Got my with withdrawal this morning.

Ukyo - I think a daily status update would make a huge difference. People have to wait  due to technical problems and that is something they can accept. But without communication fear tends to set in and people assume the worst. That is much far worse than just waiting.

Perhaps posting "xx of yy completed for this date". At least people can see progress and don't check their account every few hours.

Hi,

I just started using CGMiner with 2 BFL 50GH units and BTC Guild. I have 2 questions:

1. Using Ubuntu and can only run using sudo cgminer. I changed the permissions on the USB devices, but that did not help. The USB ports work fine otherwise. Any ideas on how to fix this?

2. It stops after 8 hours, with a message about waiting for the pool. Is there a setting I need to change? What could cause this?

Thank you.

Hi Ukyo,

I understand you are dealing with technical problems, and thank you for keeping us updated. That makes a big difference.

Can you please send my bitcoins from We Exchange? Thank you.

I am trying to at least get a post in daily.
I really did not think bitcoind would buckle under such a reasonable increase in usage and it is the worst time.

I am here. I am not going anywhere.
WeExchange has big news coming very soon. I can not afford for this to continue this way.
I feel very embarrassed and ashamed at this point that I chose to rely on bitcoind and have caused so many problems with it at the worst possible time.

Thank you very much for your patience and understanding. When your withdraws are canceled or possibly pushed through, I ask that you please mention it here so others can see progress as it happens.

-Ukyo

I have been waiting for 15 days. Please send them.

Nope, didn't miss that. And wasn't surprised to see it. Ukyo said there would be an announcement later today after which he would have more time to deal with weexchange issues. From the sound of it, weexchange will be sorted out properly in a few weeks but for now we just need the wallet to work again.

Let's hope much much much sooner than a few weeks..
That seems excessive...

Can you please send my bitcoins? They got stuck when I tried to transfer them out of we exchange. I have been waiting for 14 days.

Hello,

I apologize for the delays.
Tickets are finally making progress and the total is shrinking rather than growing.
As I mentioned before we are handling all requests in order.
Please be patient a bit longer and as long as you have a ticket open we will be getting to it soon.

-Ukyo

I have been waiting 12 days. Please send the bitcoins.

Re: $2000 / 5 hours This is insane !!!!

3 moths ago i have bought BTC 100 for $2000.

Today i went to shopping with my wife. When i came back, the price for a bitcoin was up $20. That means, the value of my 100 btc increased $2000 in 5 hours, which is the price i have initially paid to buy my BTC.

This is just insane. It looks like the mother of all bubbles....

Actually USD is the mother of all bubbles at the moment: $15 trillion. That is about $1,000,000 per bitcoin.

not understand - for 1 unit 125 or 150?
The selling price was 150, but after several (like 4) people that wanted to buy it and noone concluded (not for my fault and I was OK with using an escrow) I decided to keep them.

Thank you anyway for your interest.

I live in Los Angeles and am interested in buying.

Hard to say… there is currently no reliable indicator or measure of speculation. One idea was to graph trade volume vs transaction volume. This showed that there was a huge spike during the 2011 bubble, but there is no spike for the recent increase in price. You can see the graph here:
http://blockchain.info/charts/tx-trade-ratio

Awesome. This is super useful. But does the spike happen before or after the bubble burst?

Yes, I felt that way when I first started buying a long time ago...

If it continues, then the bubble will pop. But until recently it has been growing linearly and not exponentially...

Re: Pricing in Bitcoin dollars
by

Why does the price need to be in both dollars and bitcoin? Everyone knows how much a bitcoin is worth in their old currency.

I think it makes more sense to just offer prices in bitcoin.

There are many opinions on what drives any market, and little scientific evidence.

It doesn't have anything to do with mining. The amount of bitcoins created is pretty much constant.

It has do to with supply vs. demand. I think more and more people are finding out about Bitcoin, and that is what is driving the price up.

PayPal dollars have no value except that PayPal will often (*cough*) exchange them for real dollars later.  What made PayPal a household name is the ability to move money around on the Internet fairly easily, and allowed people to make payments to people without having to give out private info (credit card numbers/etc.)

Bitcoin is superior to PayPal in pretty much every way except chargeback / consumer protection.  (It may be somewhat heretical to suggest here that the inability to reverse Bitcoin payments isn't always a great thing for everyone, but there you have it.)

As to obscurity: what would you have given to be "in" on the PayPal idea before most people had heard of it?

What needs to happen is: we need to get people to hear about Bitcoin and understand it *before* The Powers That Be can slander it into illegality.  We've already seen the power of the Internet to get the word out and affect legislation that's clearly against the public interest; but before that can happen, the public needs to be aware of their interest in this.  People have been trained to think that their money isn't really theirs to control; introduce them to the idea that it really should be.

TLDR: Evangelize!  And Bitcoin will be a household name like PayPal is.

I though PayPal became popular because it was the easy way to pay for items on eBay.

This is really interesting. I was reading just the other day about the billions of dollars that flow out of the US to other countries, and it costs like 10% to send. Bitcoin would be a perfect solution.

Just like how cell phones have become available in the poorest places on Earth. It is much cheaper to set up a cell phone tower than to bring a phone lines...
