changing to match non-whitespace instead of digits works for me:

# Normal result looks like
# * 0. 0a:00.0 ATI Radeon HD 5800 Series
#   1. 09:00.0 ATI Radeon HD 5800 Series
#   2. 04:00.0 ATI Radeon HD 5800 Series

#  * - Default adapter

...
unless ($adapter_list =~ m/^.*\d+\.\s+\S{2}:\d{2}\.\d\s+.*/) {
...
if (($id,$address,$description) = $line =~ m/^.*(\d+)\.\s+(\S{2}:\d{2}\.\d)\s$
...

Re: WTS 5770, 5870, 6970

I purchased the 5870 & 6970 from shata.  The 6970 works great.  The 5870 arrived with worn out fan bearings and the fan would make horrible grinding sound and run about 60 rpm, not enough to keep the card cool.

I've contacted shata 3 times now to work this out.  The first response was simply that "the fan is supposed to be loud".  The next 2 PMs have not received a response.  Since then, I purchased a Zalman VF3000 which is working well with the 5870, but I'd like to be reimbursed for the cost because it was not disclosed that the 5870 had a bad fan before the deal was made.

It's been over a month  now, so I'm no longer hopeful that shata will make this right,  but if he does I will edit this post.

true they would be easier to sell individually, but I don't feel like making 4 trips to the post office just for a few bucks.

like the title says, i have 4 of these new in the box.  I am selling them as a lot for $120 ($30 each).  The cheapest price online is microcenter at $32.99.  I am open to trades for other mining related hardware.

I've found a few used on ebay for $180 or so... seems like they're selling for more than that right now.

I was already running the "#define Ma" optimized kernel, and this is good for another .5% on top of that.

Agreed about the "worth it" factor.  In about 3 months the weather will start cooling off, so even if the difficulty rises over the summer in the fall/winter I have to heat the house anyways.  Granted that mining hardware is not as efficient as a heat pump, but at least the waste heat goes to use rather than running the air conditioning even more.  We'll see about next summer.  By then the Radeon 7xxx cards will be out and there will probably be FPGA/ASIC clusters online as well.  Having said all that, I still think we're quickly approaching the point (maybe 2-4 weeks away) where purchasing new hardware dedicated for mining will not be worth it other than for the "fun factor" to get a few bitcoins and join the community.

Re: hashkill - testing bitcoin miner plugin

I'm running dual 5830s on my test machine clocked at 875,900.  Also using the latest ubuntu 11.04 x64, sdk 2.4 and catalyst 11.6.

using Deepbit pool, hashkill is delivering about 433Mhash/sec but phoenix 1.5/phatk is delivering about 528Mhash/sec.  Should I be using an earlier driver?  I tried playing with -D, -G1, -G2, -G3, -G4.  Is there anything else I can try to duplicate the results other folks have had?

Is mining hardware still profitable?
by

If I'm doing my math correctly using this online calculator:

http://www.alloscomp.com/bitcoin/calculator.php

Difficulty is at 877266, and a 5830 will yield approx 240Mhash/sec without overclocking, maybe 265Mhash/sec for an average overclock.

If you purchase a new 5830 for approx $130, it will not pay for itself in a month.  This online calculator doesn't include difficulty increases so it's sort of a "best case" scenario.  Next difficulty increase will likely be over 1,000,000 and will likely continue to be 50% to 80% increase every week or 2, so by the 2nd month that 5830 would make about $70, 3rd month, about $40.  Then we take into account the rest of the mining rig, electricity, air conditioning, shipping costs, etc.

I guess for now I'll keep running my existing rigs, but not plan any expansion.

Does this seem right?  Will we see a flood of used ATI cards on eBay?
