Re: Does mastercoin rely on a single address?

Mastercoin transactions don't have to rely on the Exodus address.
If the Exodus bitcoins are stolen, then the development funding of the project will be gone, but the Mastercoin protocol would continue to work.
Regarding the MSC price if this happens, sure a lot of confidence in the project would be lost and the price would fall.

The thing is to learn from the community. Learn what is wrong and do something about it. The Bitcoin community is quite negative about Mastercoin at the moment. Some are openly hostile. The thing is to not get stuck on the FUD, but real concerns like some things killerstorm has pointed out.

Now to some exciting news.

The Mastercoin Foundation asked me to review the candidates and select a "Smart Property Lead / Evangelist".

I want to thank all the people that applied for the Mastercoin Foundation Smart Property Lead position. I was glad to talk with each of you individually and hear how passionate you are for contributing to the Mastercoin open source project.

After interviewing all the candidates and much consideration I've selected Taariq Lewis for the position. Many of you might recognize Taariq from his interview on CCTV. He is passionate about Bitcoin and developing one of the first projects on top of the Mastercoin Protocol smart property feature.

Taariq will be serving at the point person for the Smart Property feature in the sense that he will be talking with other developers that want to build on top of the MSC protocol smart property feature, gathering community input, and bridging a dialog between the awesome developers coding it up and those that want to use the feature.

Here is his Linkedin profile to see his back ground: www.linkedin.com/in/taariq
Preferred channels:
Email: taariq.lewis@gmail.com
Phone: (646) 479 - 6098

(Yes I asked to share these publicly).

Thanks again to Taariq for offering his valuable time serving the community in this position.

David A. Johnston Mastercoin Foundation Board Member

This is excellent news. Congrats Taariq!

There is still quite the ignorance in the BTC community that you can directly invest in the colored coins idea(+more features) in the form of Mastercoins. Most people active in the community are aware and excited about colored coins, but the Mastercoin project is so easily dismissed with the usual "premined and centralized" accusations, and I think this is wrong.

The foundation gives 100k to the coders, and they still don't work full time on this? Well, I hope this will incentivize the coders in the future (if MSC continues its climb) to focus 100% on this project.

something about this doesn't feel right

i'm not the only one? lol  Grin

Perhaps not, but you are the most annoying of the lot. This is a thread for exchanging MSC. Why not have some respect and move your warnings and protestations to your own thread.
He's spreading his nonsense over all the mastercoin threads.
Ignored.

Just a suggestion to MSC holders. There is no benefit of pumping the price at this point when the price is based on pure speculation and future hopes. Actually selling MSC at a fair price will increase the amount of people involved in the  Mastercoin ecosystem which benefits the project much more.

Make sure that your PSU is not dead before doing anything.

You can try restore factory defaults: (I never try it Smiley)
picture https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/File:Avalon-703n-front.JPG
1. Reboot (Power Down and then UP)
2. When the blue LED starts flashing, press the SW2 button
3. Stop pressing the SW2 when the blue LED starts flashing quickly

At this time the router is in failsafe mode.

4. Telnet 192.168.0.100. It will take you to the root prompt.
5. Enter "firstboot" at the prompt to reset the router to defaults
6. Restart

If router is dead you can replace it with tplink 703n or connect avalon to computer via USB.
Thanks. I did the reset and got it back working after several failed attempts. Is it a normal symptom of OCing too much that the tplink stops responding? I'm trying to figure out what caused the problem, and how to prevent it.

What to do when you can't access the machine? Ran on range 290-325 and during it night it stopped mining. Now I can't access it anymore from the the net nor via ethernet from pc. PSU seems to be working, starts the machine up. Received the machine on friday. PSU is enermax 850w.

what would the expected shipping time be? I understood that batch 1 started shipping in late january and most people have got them by april. So 2 months is reasonable?

Re: ASICs - which should you choose?
by
grishnakh
on 08/11/2012, 09:05:33 UTC
What about a different approach to the difficulty prediction: Calculating how much of ASIC hardware is added to the network reach an equilibrium for the time to reach  ROI for the ASIC.

My prediction is that the network will find an equilibrium where the time frame to reach ROI for an ASIC device is somewhere comparable to current GPU mining. With the 25 btc block award when ASICs hit the market, it can be argued that the ROI time frame will double from current GPU mining.
If current ROI predictions for a GPU has been about 6 months, a reasonable estimate would be that the network will reach an equilibrium difficulty with ASIC ROI of 1 year. (If ASIC ROI is over 1 year, less people are willing to invest in mining, thus reaching an equilibrium at 1 year) What is the difficulty with the current generation ASIC devices and prices?
If the difficulty will jump to a value where buying an asic would pay itself in 1 year, then it would be about 20x of the current value (assuming 60gh/s, 100w, price 1300 dollars, btc price at current level using bitcoinX.com calculator).
At the current ASIC prices of 50 Mh/dollar the network total of about 500 TH/s would cost about 10 million dollars. This is probably more than the price of the current GPU network.

Well, I never liked the term they called Bitcoin a 'virtual currency scheme'. Somehow I thought it had a bit of a negative connotation.
