I am seeing a new error i have not seen before. There is no screen to be resumed matching miner. In the terminal window right before the miner of choice starts. And the mining still does seem to start in the background.
How about the option to set auto shutdown when the power button is pressed? I often need to move rigs and want to shut them down without plugging in or remoting in.
I have been running the following:
gsettings set org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.power button-power 'shutdown'
cheers
If you hold down the power button for ( I believe it is 5 seconds it should shutdown) . Is this shutdown different other than it acting immediately?
My understanding, and I may be completely wrong. Is that holding the power button is the same as turning off the power.

In the terminal window right before the miner of choice starts. And the mining still does seem to start in the background.
Could it have something to do with a high resolution screen being present?
I have tried another image and the same thing occurred.
go to the quake terminal window and type "screen -r miner" and you should see your miner running
So it's by design then?

This is a great post. Thanks for putting the guide together.
I need some help though or perhaps a little more information at this point in the guide:
Running Pool
./build/bin/open-ethereum-pool config.json You can use Ubuntu upstart check for sample config in upstart.conf.
Not sure what im supposed to do here. Can someone provide a little more info?
Also when i run this: apt-get install libdb4.8-dev libdb4.8++-dev
it says the package no longer exists or has been replaced or is no longer needed. Is that right?
Thanks again

It might also work if you're mining elsewhere, though profitability is determined by NiceHash (as exposed through their API). It's a Python script that gathers information about what's profitable and calls shell scripts to reconfigure overclocking settings and launch miners on a per-algorithm basis. It replaces oneBash for normal operation; oneBash is only needed for initial setup or to add/remove GPUs (it manages /etc/X11/xorg.conf).
Nice work
I will integrate this into the next oneBash / v0018.
I will keep your default BTC address and ensure it is clear you implemented the instantaneous profit switching algorithm.
I do think with when using different algos in makes sense to have different clocks; however I don't think the settings for those should be spread out over a bunch of different bash files.
I will bring all the settings inside oneBash and make a:
SALFTER_NICEHASH_PROFIT_SWITCHING="YES" YES / NO switch
Using your implementation; it should only require a few modifications to implement other targets such as 'lowest difficulty out of a given set of coins' and more.
Thanks for providing another tool to the community, [/quote]
This is really amazing work.

Somebody may have mentioned this but would it be possible to edit the xorg.conf so that additional resolutions are available for machines that are completely headless? When I use teamviewer its defaulting to a very low resolution and there are seemingly no others available.

I have set up a 9 gpu system with nvOC 16 and here's my experience.
nvOS is stellar. Fullzero has put something really special together here. Hats off to you. I have used windows builds with Claymore as well as other linux os such as PIMP. This is by far the best experience I have has so far.
nvOS is as easy as setting up in windows but with the advantage of linux as well as being able to control everything including over clocking with a bash script file that's as easy as filling in a form.
Currently this 9 gpu rig is hashing ETH and DCR using the suprvova pools. I have found v16 with claymore 9.5 to be far superior to the previous version and i think it will be our goto for larger deployment for the time being.
Right now it hashes at around 183 Mh/s. Here's the build:
During setup i encountered numerous errors, all of which were remedied. I went with 2 psus, not sure if its better in teh long run but splitting 1100 watts over two 850s seem to be decent for efficiency. I have built 7 of these now and a few with the z270A version using 8 GPUS. Both are good. I have created this system as the model for our small mining farm in California, so i will continue to feedback on these builds as I go.
Bios settings were very important. As was bios version.
Damaged risers and a bum gpu were also headaches during set up so be on the lookout for that. Once you have the bio settings right and the hardware actually works it really is as simple as flashing the drive, plugging it in and turning it on. If anyone wants the bios settings PM me but its here in the thread and is mostly about setting all pcie settings to gen2, using bios 0801 and not flashing the newer 0906. Which was the opposite to PIMP which did not seem to work for me on the older bios.
One last thing, with these gpus I set the OC to
__CORE_OVERCLOCK=150 MEMORY_OVERCLOCK=825
and it seems to be running stable with no ETH rejections and about 1 in 200 DCR rejections. temps at 80 fans at 65% -dcri 50 and pulling about 1050 watts.
I built two of these for a friend and two for my sister.
Both are pointing at nice hash. On is here https://new.nicehash.com/miner/1GCSdasYQ3wWp8zAHHvHyao83aoyA6AFVM - currently its waiting on pcie m2 adapters to get all 9 cards going. They will recoup their investment in 3-4 months and their minds have been opened to the new world of block chains, contracts and decentralized crypto currency.
Thanks fullzero this is a brilliant project.

Amazing work ont eh update.
Got it working with no issues but then received the following error. Dont know what to make of it.
DCR: Stratum - connecting to 'dcr.suprnova.cc' <217.182.138.167> port 3252 ETH: Stratum - Connected (eth.suprnova.cc:5000) DCR: Stratum - Connected (dcr.suprnova.cc:3252) DCR: Authorized DCR: 06/22/17-00:04:37 - New job from dcr.suprnova.cc:3252
So I was trying to run 7 Zotac 1070 Minis with Asus Z270F using Z270A image, the most it could detect is 6 Zotacs. Someone here said that Z270F runs 7 GPUs out of the box, but not in my case. I need to try windows to verify that. Do you have Z270F and planning to post an image? Running 6 Zotacs with TB85 for now, but Minis are so tiny that 8 could fit in Rosewill easily.
Thanks.
I just got one of these mobos in yesterday. I can get 7x cards to be detected by the system, but there is a conflict with x and the driver. I can manually OC the first 6 cards, but the 7th has no response to OC commands.
There is also what appears to be a TPM / Secureboot problem preventing subsequent boots into the same install. Initially changing the bios setting for enabling above 4gb encoding is required to get 7 cards to work. There are also some TPM / Secureboot bios changes that are needed, but I still need to isolate which. I started with the MSI z270-A PRO image.
I will work on this more tonight.
First of all this is an awesome project. Thanks for doing this. I will mine to your wallets or something to give monetary thanks.
Did you ever get any further on this Z270F mobo. I can only see 6 cards. I would love to get 9 going.
cheers ever so much.
With v0015 you can use 7x GPUs with that mobo; 9x if you have 2x m2 adapters.
Edit: ensure that you make the bios changes listed for that mobo on the OP.
I followed those instructions and I am using v0015.
Obviously it works then but I must be missing something.
It might be a hardware problem: what kind of risers are you using, and how are they powered?
only 6 cards show up in the bios which supports a hardware issue. I have another mobo which i can test. I tried a different riser
I have 4GPUs on one PSU and 7 on the other plus Mobo
Sometimes the gpu that isn't working; isn't the one you expect it to be.
To ensure you know which one isn't working; mine for a little while, at least 10 mins.
Feel the heatsink of each GPU until you find the one that isn't hot.
Power down the rig, turn off the PSU.
Either remove that GPU and test it on another motherboard;
or remove all the other GPUs and try booting with just the problem GPU directly in the primary slot in the mobo.
This should tell you if that GPU is INOP or not.
Let me know what the result is.
Going to sleep now.
Ok some more information.
Def not an issue with GPU.
I have an m2 adapter now and I can get 7 cards going. (6 pci + 1 M2)
The issue is the pcie slots. If any 6 are occupied then 6 work. If i try a 7th in any spot it does not show up. The tool in the bios only shows 6 cards, even when 7 are active with the addition of the m.2. Maybe they never expected 9 cards so its just not showing up in the tool.
I have a second build up to test 8 x 1070 gpus and a couple of 1kw power supplies. I will see if I have a different experience and let you know.
I have had a lot of graphical issues with this build.
I have a previous build on the Prime z270A with 7 cards and it has no issues.
Thanks for all your help. How best to show appreciation?
Please spread Crypto .
Will do, am doing.
Got 7 cards to recognize in windows, so all 7 slots are now working. Set all the pcie modes to gen 2 in th bios. Will try to boot a new flash of nvOC shortly. AndI can post the bios settings for DL if it all works.
First off thanks for all the help thus far. But I am running in to a problem and would really appreciate it if someone could give me a helping hand.
So initial I had 5x 1070 2 connected via risers and 3 connect directly via the motherboard. I then bought some more risers so I could connect all of them via risers and someone suggested to do a fresh install whenever doing any hardware changes so I did that. However, now regardless of what configuration and the way I setup the gpus either the original with some via the motherboard and some via risers or all of them on risers it is only picking up 4 out of the 5 gpus. Any troubleshooting suggestions I tried look through to see if anyone else had this issue, but couldn't find anything that worked. Also I have tried multiple fresh installs on a few USB drives. Once again thanks in advance!
What motherboard are you using?
I am upgrading to a 6x PCIe mobo next week so I hope to not run into this issue?
I am currently using the Asus Prime Z270-A
1. Will the new cards work if you run 2 old ones with the 2 new ones? 2. Did you follow what is in the OP?
Quote
If you are using an ASUS PRIME Z270-A; ensure 'Above 4G Decoding' is enabled in the bios. Also ensure PTP aware OS: is set to 'Not PTP Aware' in the bios. Finally, ensure you 'Clear Secure Boot Keys' in the bios.
Also, I've read that PCIe setting needs to be set to Gen1. It sounds like it could be a simple BIOS issue.
I have found that gen 2 works as well.

Another question.
What files can safely be deleted? I am getting disk full errors on the 64GB thumb drives I am using and I am a noob and I am not sure what can be deleted.
So I was trying to run 7 Zotac 1070 Minis with Asus Z270F using Z270A image, the most it could detect is 6 Zotacs. Someone here said that Z270F runs 7 GPUs out of the box, but not in my case. Ok so I have the second system set up with all new hardware, different risers, different power supplies, different GFX cards.
I have the exact same issue. The bios only seems to see 6 GFX cards.
Can I ask, what version of the bios you were using? I have tried the last two. Was there any other settings changed in the BIOS or just the 3 you point out on the first page of the thread?
