Re: Why bitcoin is not supported in some countries?
by
ironm@n
on 20/03/2018, 17:28:21 UTC
Because it may drain the power and influence of governments in those countries.
The only hope is that more and more people will continue to use it, and make enough pressure to prevent governments from declaring its use prohibitive.

Re: Will Another Coin Take the Crown?
by

on 03/02/2018, 15:37:40 UTC
Bitcoin is the oldest and most valuable cryptocurrency, but a crop of nimble competitors, including Ethereum and Bitcoin Cash, could lure investors away.
Losing the top position in marketcap is a possibility at this point. But I wouldn't call it "take the crown".

For me, the true winner is the cryptocurrency with more stability and a solid user base, and, with this regard, competitors are in a pitiful position compared to Bitcoin.

AFAIK, Bittrex is not accepting new customers. Polo and Coinbase are having support issues. There is another one called Binance, and I see a lot of people recommending it, but I haven't tried myself.

Which do you think is more likely to happen?
Difficult question, we've already been there, but to reach such levels again, we need a lot of institutional money and major investors coming in. Not sure if that's coming by the next few weeks, as many expect, but by technical analysis of the chart, it seems there is potential to break previous highs.

I would not say a crash, but a correction. There is still room for posterior upward movements.

It doesn't matter the age of a coin in the market, it's always a matter of supply and demand, even at the beginning.
The demand, in turn, will depend on marketing, development and usage.

I think spam and mindless comments are problems that should be taken seriously. It is one of the reasons why the forum does not bring much more users, and it's also the reason why many users that were already here have gone.

Not that I consider Bitshares a legit coin, but I'm surprised they have delisted it. It has quite decent trading volume.

1. Bittrex don't like decentralized exchanges
Even not being so decentralized as some people think, it's a possibility. It's competition for them.

Re: What are you using bitcoins for?

I'm using it as a store of value. It's probably the best use case it has right now.
I also use it to invest in good projects, when I see the project is not selling dreams, but something that can bring real use case and mass adoption.

Re: How long could bitcoin last?
by
ironm@n
on 03/09/2017, 15:40:42 UTC
Price will always depend on its popularity, based on supply and demand not its existence. I do believe that Bitcoin can last long since it’s till gaining popularity, still gaining users and investors. It will likely stay for a while until a new digital currency dethrones. But that’s still a long way down the road. And it will not crash at a random time. If it did, there will be a rational explanation for it. It can be a discrepancy or an outside environs fucking up with it.
Yes. There seems no such sort of thing which can demolish the future of Bitcoins. But you never know what will happen next. Looking at the way how it is gaining popularity amongst investors, it will be unjust to say that Bitcoin holds a dark future. It is just a matter of time that will prove us otherwise.
Well, there is always a risk of bad things happening, like government attacks and internal conflicts involving developers and miners. However, due to its decentralized nature, it is very unlikely that governments will shut down Bitcoin.

Regarding internal conflicts, the worst thing that could happen would be another fork, in which case the market could decide which is the best.

When it comes to decentralization and the safest store of value, Bitcoin will always be the number one. At least until something truly innovative and efficient is presented to us in this regard.

However, when it comes to scalability and usability, there is plenty of room for other projects.

Yeah, since it has not affected the Bitcoin price, the only people who will not benefit from this event are those buying BCH high to sell low. This is also bringing some headache to exchanges and wallet providers.

Being an ICO does not mean that it is a scam. I think the main thing to look at is if the project has attainable goals, and if they have competent developers to achieve those goals.

Looking at the Bitcoin market history, I would not say it was a turbulent day. I think that really turbulent days are about to come, but for anyone who understands the Bitcoin's potential and did not invest more than should be invested, it will not be so difficult to overcome such moments.

Well, once a person has the knowledge about this technology, it's his choice to decide whether to use it or not. But at least you can be sure that, if you clarified well what it is and how it works, a service has been done for that person.

For Bitcoin mining, only ASICs, and it would be very difficult to get ROI, but if your purpose is to support the network, I think it's a good initiative.

If things go that way, I think that some measures taken by Trump can bring instability to the US dollar. This will certainly bring some problems for the economy, but in a way this can help Bitcoin, since more people will see the currency as a better alternative.

Re: How did you first hear about bitcoin?
by

on 14/02/2017, 22:40:14 UTC
My case is similar to some other users, I was first trying to learn more about economics, politics and free market related topics, as a consequence, I found content on YouTube that talked about the cryptocurrency, and this made me learn about the purpose of Bitcoin. But to better understand how the currency works and to make sure that it was something serious, I looked for content with a more technical level on the subject.
