Encrypted Wallet
by

A few days ago one of the cables connecting my HDD went caput, and I had to take it into the apple store. When I got my computer home, I had to re sync multibit, which I found quite odd considering nothing had been changed about the computer. So I let it sync, and the wallet files that are backed up have a password that I can't seem to remember. I remember when I was backing the files up, I wasn't adding any passwords to it just to test it out. But now when I try to import them, it is telling me my password is wrong, blah blah blah. I am wondering what my options are here to try and get it recovered?

Fun fact: At 2000 yuan (328 usd) you would actually see ROI in only 37 days according to http://mining.thegenesisblock.com/. Completely surpassing any other asic available even KNC.

Would consider picking one up for that price.

Export your private keys unencrypted.
Then open the exported file in a text editor
The private keys are in the WIF format, one per row (followed by a date but you probably don't need that)

edit: secure delete the file once you have done with it.
Appreciate it, that was the problem was encrypting it before

As long as you can sign transactions you can use any client that supports it.

The Mastercoin-wallet software just does all this for you so you don't need an other (Bitcoin) client.

Ahhh, okay so that website did throw me off a bit. The last thing, hopefully, is getting the private key. That's where I was a little thrown off by that site, do I need a bitcoin client to generate a private address for me?

http://blog.mastercoin.org/2013/11/02/tutorial-test-msc-btc-distributed-exchange-transactions/

He is talking about the wallet software, not the website Smiley
Actually that helped quite a bit, step by step like that does help me quite a bit so just going to read over that now. But only able to execute this through Bitcoin-QT? What does QT have over other wallets, like Multibit?

Rough idea:

COPY(my_address, my_priv_key, copied_address)

From this moment onward, every operation done by copied_address is copied by my address, in proportion to our funds. Meaning if copied_address holds X MSC and my_address holds Y MSC, and copied_address now places a market offer to sell Z MSC, then my_address will sell Z*Y/X MSC.

This of course needs more details to account for multiple currencies and assets stored on the same address.

https://trello.com/c/MX0ZymMD/20-soec-for-events-feeds

Just thought I would post a little explanation about this feature.

Quote
Example:

Alice has 1000 MSC.
Bob has 100 MSC. Bob thinks Alice is a smart trader, and tells the decentralized Mastercoin system to just copy Alice.

Now, Alice sells 100 MSC using a market order. Immediately after this, Bob will automatically sell 10 MSC (10% of Alice's action). Let's assume for 1 BTC = 10 MSC

So now: Alice has 900 MSC and 10 BTC
Bob has 90 MSC and 1 BTC

Note that Bob was in vacation in Thailand and wasn't near his computer.

Now, let's say 1 BTC is worth 20 MSC, and Alice thinks it's a great buying opportunity. She spends 2 BTC to buy 40 MSC. Bob automatically copies this purchase.

Alice has now 940 MSC, and 8 BTC
Bob has 94 MSC and 0.8 BTC

Of course, in real life there is slippage. Bob will always get a slightly worse deal than Alice.

FC is so far ahead of the curve he is beyond the horizon.

Yes. And AM is the only company showing sings of trying to implement a strategy for years, not months, into the future. This is endgame stuff.

I pretty much share this sentiment it is a very long term strategy not focused on the short term hardware war but the long term stabilization of market (So short bear long bull) in other words I see AM being around for a while and Friedcats whole strategy is long not short. He is convinced that ASIC mining will move to this scale and wants to be the first on the curve for the eventuality that will come.

Also no other securities in the mining sphere have long term goals beyond that of increasing hashrate on miners so it is an industry first.
(Although I stand to be corrected if there is something I missed)

Couldn't have said it any better.

oh well this sheds some light to it, but I really would not want to call Bitcoin broken over this lol

Even though it's a little taboo to mention, the truth is: Bitcoin's developer abandoned the project years ago and disappeared into thin air. If he was still around he would be actively evolving the coin and addressing issues like this one in a clever manner. Bitcoin without Satoshi is like Apple without Jobs.

To my understanding, the only coin actively developing a 51% defense is Goldcoin whose developer is actively building upon Satoshi's unfinished work.

This just sounds ridiculous.

Wondering if live betting will be up for any of the NFL games?

Yes we are offering live NFL betting! Check in during game breaks and halftime for odds.

Ahhhh okay, was thinking of live, like updated each play. But glad I got that clarified so I know when to check in.

Well, living in Calgary, I am interested to see where they're going to be placing it in the city. I haven't been able to find any information regarding this, but last time I checked was about a week ago.

Would be a great investment for sure.
This is pretty cool. I do not think the palm scanner is necessary. Silly Canadian financial regulations..

IIRC they weren't required to, but they did it for security down the line.

The palm scans are not stored with any personal info, they are just checked in the machine to ensure that the same person does not exchange more than $3000 per day.

Ahh yes, forgot that part. Thank you.
