Scammer logs into PayPal via tor, purchases items, logs back in several hours later minus tor and files a dispute for unauthorized account access, and guess what? .. Yeah.. PayPal favour them, every fucking time.

Well that seems like a dick of a thing to do  Sad

Never seen this personally, but thanks for the heads up. Have pointed to this in OP.

A note about PayPal
by

ok, so I keep reading alot of posts by people who want to buy BTC using paypal. It seems that the default response is "don't use paypal you can get scammed!!!!1!!". This is in fact not true provided you (or rather the buyer) can use paypal correctly. Here is a very short guide on how to SELL bitcoin on paypal and not get scammed:

1. Find person to buy your bitcoin.

2. Ask for the payment as a PayPal gift payment, which is found under the 'Personal' tab in payment type.

http://files.meetup.com/1307107/Paypal%20Send-as-Gift%20Option.jpg

3. When payment arrives send bitcoins.

4. Have a mojito.

The reason this works is that "gift" payments cannot be disputed through paypal. So once the person has sent the "gift" they cannot then cancel the payment. Note that I have said this is guide to SELL bitcoin without getting scammed. In fact the risk is just moved to the buyer, who has to trust that the seller will send the BTC after the paypal gift is received.

An added advantage of this method is that gift payment also HAVE NO FEES! So that is added incentive for both parties.

Hope this helps y'all

EDIT: This may not work in your country, check your own paypal site for details

EDIT2: This is not fool proof. See comments below (particularly from MiningBuddy)

I'm a poor person.

*snip*

Therefore, I need 2 bitcoins to exchange for into American dollars to exchange into a precious, precious pounds.

dear mister whore

I was very pleased to see your request, as I have a situation that would be mutually benificial to both of us.

I currently have $75,000,000 dollars in my account here in Botswana, but unfortunatly it is frozen. I inherited the money from my uncle who mined beef and farmed diamonds here is glorious 70's leather boom. To get the money I must first pay the inheritance tax. If you could forward me the fee needed to unfreeze the account then I would be happy to share much bitcoin and REAL MONEYZ with you.

Please PM me your credit card number, along with full name and expirydate. I will also accept western union or paypal.

please note that I have taken to time to respond to you kindly.
Your rapid reply is great!

Re: How much money you're planning to spend on bitcoins?

Great thread, I think people can get a bit excited about the idea that bitcoin is some new currency that nobody knows about, and that simply getting in early will gurantee a profit of some sort. Investing/trading has all the pitfalls of any other type of currency.

Personally my interest is mining, but it's hard to say what kind of investment i have made. I recently brought a 5850 for AU$169 so I guess you could say that is the amount invested Smiley However it's a bit convoluted because I don't have a dedicated mining rig and I also use the card for gaming. I suppose the extra wattage draw while mining is also part of the "investment".

If you under clock your video RAM you'll see improvements using a worksize of 256 in my experience.

My settings:
GPU: 1065 MHz
RAM: 300 MHz
VCC: 1.11

phoenix.py -k phatk VECTORS BFI_INT FASTLOOP=false AGGRESSION=12 WORKSIZE=256

Yeilds me 235 Mh/s on a Radeon HD 5770

lol, I'm already doing a little better than 235, but I guess thats just the difference in cards Cheesy

Thanks for the tip I'll let you know if I can get it up and running. I tried doing a GPU up/Mem down underclock at stock voltages but could not get anywhere near 1000 Mhz for GPU or 300 Mhz for mem.

So am I understanding this correctly?
A new registered account has to have 50 posts before being able to post/reply to threads in other areas of the forum?
This is to help cut down on spam and such?
Seems awfully counter-intuitive seeing as I've been a member of other forums for years without even achieving that many posts. It sure seems like your trying to encourage spam posts such as:

Hey Boaz,

Updated info on the restriction is found here: http://forum.bitcoin.org/index.php?topic=15958.0

mods, apologies for double post.

Hi all,

I'm pretty new to bitcoins and my main focus is on mining! I'm not really out to make cash or anything I just like to tinker with computers, and mining looks like a fun way to do it  Grin

I'm currently mining on a single 5850 which I set up over the weekend (and have made 0.25 BTC so far, w00t). I overclokced it a bit and managed to get 310 MHash/sec pretty easily. From my brief readings it looks like significant performace gains can be got from underclocking your GPU. Not really sure why this is but hopefully some of you guys can help me out with that.

cheers
JP
