On the flip side, it would lower the price and Mastercoin would lose (?) ~30% of its backing.

Still, not so crazy..

I've seen figures between 600 & 700k on the total # of MSC, so 12,250 MSC would represent ~2% of the market.

Please put my sell order on the book: 1750 MSC for sale at 0.7 BTC each.

I previously said I was going to wait for the distributed exchange before trying to sell these, but Ron (our Executive Director) pointed out that if someone is willing to pay this price before then I should make the coins available. If this order gets filled before the DEX is live, that would mean I could work on Mastercoin full-time sooner than otherwise.

I realize this sell order is a ways away from the current price, but maybe now people will stop complaining about the lack of coins available to buy Smiley

Why not sell 12,250 MSC @ 0.1? The MSC would sell much faster and you'd still have ~90% of your MSC. The news alone of you coming on board full time would put a lot of uncertainty to rest and up the price, increasing the value of your remaining MSC holdings. Yes you can argue that if you got hit by a bus then MSC would live on regardless, but at the same time a lot of people look to you to say something or provide an answer, including core devs. The future of MSC is much more decentralized, but in this early stage I don't think you can escape being of central importance. And it helps to have the core visionary looking at the field of possibilities and prioritizing the top projects. There's a lot of competition out there which is moving quickly, as you know...if we could get you on full time ASAP, plus the great devs already working on MSC, plus maybe even that Rob guy and his alleged badass company...that could be a dream team made in heaven!

Put me down for a measly 50 MSC @ 0.1. Only 12,245 MSC to go!

Yes this is a little concerning. It seems like there's a lot of "well we'll see what JR says on this," yet answering questions or dealing with mastercoin is clearly not a priority of his.

Mastercoin is a priority of his.  Providing answers to foolish internet trolls who think they are due an explanation because they invested their entire allowance this week on Mastercoin - isn't a priority of his.  The reason you all can be sure JR is a stand up guy taking thing seriously, is because he is not in an internet forum providing answers to dumb asses.  That is precisely why I am very worried about this Johnson character who seems like a total rookie getting in a shit slinging fight with Killerstorm - the shithead who started all of this because his Colored Coins isn't as popular as Mastercoin.

The man said himself, he's off the internet evenings, weekends, and vacations. The rest of the time he has a full time job. How does that equate to mastercoin being a priority? Let's be honest here.

The questions being asked are legitimate regardless of how much someone invested. If you're saying that JR or other board members shouldn't be obligated to engage every single person leaving comments on a mastercoin thread then of course I agree, they'd never be able to get anything else done. But by leaving such an incredibly arrogant and condescending comment you are alienating the masses of MSC investors who are crucial to your success.

Popular? I'm more worried about long term viability. There's a lot of competition out there. All emotional spats aside, the BTC is going to flow to the project that out competes others and has a promising future.

Yes this is a little concerning. It seems like there's a lot of "well we'll see what JR says on this," yet answering questions or dealing with mastercoin is clearly not a priority of his. I'm not blaming the man at all...it's understandable if he has other priorities like family. But I think it creates a lot of uncertainty amongst investors when he's perpetually in this state of limbo, where we don't know ultimately what his contribution to the project will be.

If Rob's business is what he says it is then it seems like those resources would be crucial to staying ahead of the competition and getting the project off the ground. Hell, what's to stop him from starting mastercoin 2 and leveraging all the human capital to which he already has access?

Ain't he though? Maxmint + Pouncer is faster than Gox's trading engine. Do we even need a DEx?

Is anyone else but me kind of rooting against bitcoin right now? I mean...I can't have it outperforming my Mastercoin investment!

Just a quick FYI, due to me not getting any escrow requests I asked Maxmint to return the 5 BTC that I had in escrow with him.

So far I've performed escrow for one transaction as an independent party, and one on behalf of my cousin. Originally I wanted to offer to help out thinking the burden might become too great on Maxmint/Pouncer, but it doesn't seem to be working out like that.

Maxmint, if you think there is benefit in me continuing then I'm more than happy to continue offering my escrow services, but if not I can just post a BTC address to get my BTC back. Sorry for the hassle in getting that all set up I figured you guys would be drowning in requests by now!

Please add 50 MSC  @ 0.5 to the order book

PS. if anyone hasn;t heard takichoma is now selling real mastercoins, (not test MSC) in the distributed exchange!! if you can figure out how to run it, big step forward for MSC

I just released 0.0.8 and put a real selling offer online right now for 10 MSC @ 0.2!

It's hosted on address 1EAuHj8Z6rTCHPxXfaGzzPsZevC2mg1XAj. I am guaranteeing this offer, which means that if you buy it and it becomes invalidated because of a spec change at a later date I will return the Bitcoins back to you. Version 0.0.8 can be used to try and purchase this offer.

Prove I own the address:

This is a quick steal,
I'd like to sell 25 MSC for 5.75 BTC.  0.22btc per MSC.
I would like to get a buyer before the end of the day, add me to the order. Escrow services is a must. Thanks.
Why are you giving them away like this?  Crazy.  Do you have more at this price?  I'll easily get .3 for these in a few days.

I am not giving it away, I am stuck somewhere without bitcoin reserves or access to cash so I need this pretty quickly. I left all banking credentials and access to brain wallet 400 miles from where I am. Also, I forgot to add: buyer handles escrow fee. How do we do this? this my first transaction with mastercoin.

Well if you haven't gotten any responses yet, my cousin is looking to buy 5 MSC, so that would be 1.1 BTC right there. I have 5 BTC with Maxmint so I could definitely facilitate.

You can use mastercoin advisor to help you out if you aren't already familiar with how to transact:

Escrow is free of charge. Maxmint is the original escrow agent and most trusted, and Pouncer has become trusted after many successful transactions via his escrow services. So far I've facilitated only one transaction via my escrow (just got started tonight). Both Pouncer and I have placed 5 BTC with Maxmint as collateral. Your best choice is Maxmint, but if neither he nor Pouncer are available I would be happy to help out.

User jquinn would like to step in as an escrow agent for Mastercoin trades – thanks for helping out!
To overcome initial trust concerns we agreed on a 5 BTC security deposit to be made to an address of mine. Should jquinn try to scam anyone there will be at least 5 Bitcoins to compensate the victim. Once we have a working decentralized exchange, escrow agents won't be needed anymore and I will send back the 5 BTC to jquinn.
In any case, I won't touch the coins without talking back to the community here first.

Pouncer suggested this method a while ago and I think it's a great way to build up initial trust.

jquinn, here's your deposit address:
1AqgydyfA7F9QT3RisVJi8NdU2NCZeBGGN

People will be able to see the balance here:
https://blockchain.info/address/1AqgydyfA7F9QT3RisVJi8NdU2NCZeBGGN

Alrighty, I just sent the coin.

Anyone who would like me to perform escrow for them please fill out this form. PM me with any questions.

Thanks for the help Maxmint.

Even if you can't afford to donate BTC, anyone who has a reddit account can help out by upvoting and commenting on this fundraising drive I posted:

http://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/1qmhkh/coinjoin_fundraising_drive/

If we can get this onto the front page of r/bitcoin I think we could get some decent coin.

Also, I'm getting a report of a problem sending coin to the address. I originally tried to use the reddit bitcoin tip bot to send it, but kept getting rejected. I eventually just used Coinbase. Now someone is commenting saying that bitcoin tip bot, Mt. Gox, and even Armory all rejected their attempts to send coin.

Here is the Armory error: "You have entered 1 invalid addresses. The errors have been highlighted on the entry screen."

Does anyone have any idea why that would be happening?

EDIT: The commenter just posted the Mt Gox error: "This address is not on the right network"

Maple, I'll take them. Can we arrange an escrow?

If anyone is looking for escrow I am willing to do it free of charge. I will manually verify and post all the details of the MSC transaction before releasing the BTC. I have not yet done any escrow transactions, so of course I understand if you'd rather use trusted escrow agents like Maxmint or Pouncer, but I'd like to become a trusted escrow agent in order to help the MSC community as requests for orders grow. I am invested in MSC so I have a vested interest in helping out where I can.

jquinn, thanks for trying to help out! Here's how Pouncer started as an escrow: he deposited 5 BTC as a security on one of my escrow addresses. Should he try to scam anyone (which I'm sure he won't) then there will be a least 5 BTC funds to compensate the victim. I guess this helped building trust in the beginning.

If you want to go the same way let me know and I can setup an escrow address for you. But this is just a suggestions of course.

Okay that sounds fine to me. Would the arrangement be that I could get the BTC back after a certain number of successful transactions? Or is Pouncer keeping his in your escrow account until the distributed exchange is ready? Wednesday is basically hell day for me at work, I could be working until 3 or 4 am tonight, but I could arrange to get that coin out of cold storage no later than tomorrow morning (it's 3:30 PM here right now). I will contact you then to make arrangements.

Watching this small market is just beautiful. I'm watching Austrian theory in action as the price bids ever upward. Incredible.

By the way, I'm perfectly willing to do escrow free of charge if Maxmint or Pouncer are not available. As the order book grows this may become necessary. I will provide full details including the breakdown of the fake address, to show that it's legit, as well as tracing everything back to the Exodus address to prove that the seller for sure owns the MSC. The best way to build trust in MSC is to provide all of the details to buyers so they can audit it for themselves. Of course you take a risk doing escrow with someone like me who is not yet trusted, but I would like to become a trusted member of the MSC community. If you are willing to risk a small amount on me please feel free to PM me.

Another FYI for the thread, because I got a little confused on this last night...if you are trying to manually verify a transaction, and you are looking to make sure the person actually has the mastercoins, the last accepted block that counted towards the initial giveaway was block 255365. I got a little confused on this because the white paper says before August 31st, but the person may have legitimately sent BTCs to the Exodus address on August 31st as that block was received just after midnight in the wee hours of 09/01.

https://blockchain.info/block/0000000000000039712afaa3551c4ad26842bc2848ac897d1375459a71876073
